Played for about an hour today to try the new build. As expected it's still terrible and still has worse gun mechanics than Fallout. But unlike before when I only felt like I was wasting my life on this abortion of a game, this time I felt physically sick while trying to play and had to stop because I would have literally puked my brains out if I kept playing. Anyone else have this problem? |

I've read a few people saying they got dizzy after playing. Also a few reports of headaches as well due to the iron sights.
I would err on the side of caution if you are getting dizzy. Don't want to end up on the floor having a seizure. |

I've also been playing since the pre-E3 build and cromosome was the first time in the last ten years I got sick from playing a video game. The FOV, camera motion and input characteristics are definitely worthy of improvement.
That said, the symptoms went away after a few sessions. Still, this is the only game I ever tried that caused me any issues. |

No, I think there was a change in the FOV or something.... Aside from the AR camera mode and sensitivity issues. Actually the sensitivity issues might have to do with a FOV change. My guess they increased the degree of FOV. I generally use the Tac or Burst AR so the camera never changed for me.
I really hope CCP looks into this. I have been playing since August, and some sessions for 3 hours + at a time with no issues. Suddenly patch comes out I'm lucky to make it through a match without feeling cross eyed and wanting to puke my guts out. |

As for the rest STHU about Fallout. Butthurt about no AR camera mode? I like the part of the post where I mentioned that l0l. I honestly prefer the iron sights to the camera mode. Judging from your post it seems like illiteracy might be even more of an issue than motion sickness. CCP, make DUST more educational please. I need to learn my alphabet while being a space champion.

When it seems to be more than an isolated issue and seems to originate solely from this build then it's certainly something for CCP to take into consideration. |

How do you get motion sickness in a game? Wait, actually, aren't you supposed to see a doctor about that if it happens? I'm pretty sure that little disclaimer at the start of every game mentions that. |

Here are 2 videos from youtube that might explain some of these issues.
EPISODE 29 FOV in Games part1 EPISODE 29 FOV in Games part2
If I remember correctly the content of those vid's, then the issue might be in FOV the game uses and the size of TV/monitor player is using and the distance from player to the TV/monitor. |

Also a issue that might be contributing to motion sickness and stuff, can be how responsive the display is. ie. time from when you start turn you charachter to the time when the image apears into the screen.
John Carmac touched this in his presentation at QuakeCon, or whatever it was, where he also talked about the Doom 3D thing.
But this is minor/negligeable point.

I haven't experienced any motion sickness this build and I get it really easily the bobbing motion in some games when they over exaggerate walking or running and you bounce alot *Shudders* that makes my head almost split after a few mins. But this time I seem to be ok so who knows. |

I don't think it is sensitivity thing directly so much as a change in the FOV. I remember back in the very first Starsiege Tribes game, you were able to adjust the FOV on your own and I did a few times as an experiment. It was nice on the hand that you could squeeze more peripheral vision into your screen but it definiately got uncomfortable after a while. It did adjust the behaviour of the mouse as well. Wasn't as easy to aim.
Not sure why some of you are talking about trolling or being other wise unproductive in this post. I found this post by the search function, not because I just happened to be scrolling through the forum. I've been playing FPS for years and never had issues.

Actually,I think the increased sensitivity is exactly the reason why people are "supposedly" getting motion sickness.Furthermore,I haven't even noticed a change in the FOV,so I don't even know how that would be related in any way for this game.
Personally,I've only felt nauseous from playing three games ever. The first one was Spiro The Dragon, the second was Tony Hawk's Pro Skate 3,and the last one was Shadow Of The Colossus.
Spiro had a bunch of colors,a fast moving camera, and the FOV was wide left to right, but up and down wasn't as much, plus you were looking at your character from almost a 3/4 angle downward. All these things combined to give me headaches after playing for about 10 minutes.
THPS3 had a very wonky moving camera at times that would rotate the whole world around you in ways that would mess with my eyes, especially when trying to keep your balance while grinding or doing a railslide. That camera was really herky-jerky most fo the time, which would give me issues, but I actually was able to get use to it after playing it for a while.
SOTC had a very wide FOV,but for some reason,I was totally unable to finish it due to the fact that my head would hurt every single time I would play more than 5-10 minutes of it.This was another game with a kind of fast moving camera, not as fast as the other two games, but still kind of fast and touchy. It also, like Spiro, didn't give you a lot of FOV above your head most of the time, which I feel is a big contributing factor.
So in conclusion, the one thing that I feel that all these games have in common for me,is that they all have cameras that move pretty fast with high sensitivity.

That may be true, but that's just a safety for those who actually have issues with things like that. When your playing it fine one day and don''t normally get sick from playing, and then you and others suddenly get headaches and blurry vision... there is an issue to look at. I have not tried this build out yet, taking a break from dust as it started getting boring to me. I like the AR , so I'm glad I have not tried out new build and get sick and puke on myself. Hopefully this issue is resolved at some point. |

I am not dismissing the fact motion sickness doesn't exist with FPS games. Just saying this build should not have increased the amount of it. Because the 'float' the earlier builds had, have gone away.
Unfortunately with motion sickness its not usually entirely the game's at fault. Anyone that typically gets motion sick from FPS games are just as un-well out in the Atlantic looking at the horizon.
Now getting FPS games not to induce the same sense of 'disconnect' between where the mind situated and what is happening with what they eyes entirely see would be nothing short of amazing, however I think there are steps that can be taken to reduce the urge to barf, or the headache.
My major head ache inducer in games is light gradients being all off. |
