Cmdr. Wang said we are in Daily SP not weekly anymore. But it feels like we are still on Weekly SP. By that I mean, I have played alot today and am still making quite a bit of SP.

After release I was gettin 200 SP a match just like I was getting before release. After playing most of the day today Ive earned 200k or more SP. If there is a daily cap its must be around 300k or so per day. |

i was about to make a thread about this. Still feels like we're on a weekly cap. Or so i hope. Cause if the daily cap is now around 300k sp, then hail to the grinders.....
And doom to those who actually have a life. And can't afford to play everyday. Oh, and that's the majority of players btw. |

This. A daily cap is a disastrous idea. I'm only able to play 2 or 3 days out of the week, and now I'm being told that even if I grind like hell on those few days, I'll never reach the same level as someone who, by sheer convenience, can play every day. |

While i understand the want to have a Casual Weekly Cap Vs. a Hardcore Daily Cap, this IS the beta so lets just live with it for a while to figure out if a Daily Cap works. I for one would not mind getting to the Prototype level a bit faster like in the days of old so we could test out high-end gear vs. high end gear.

So i was actually able to sit and grind a skill to lvl 5 in one day. Granted it was a x1 skill, but this changes things to a grinding game. I personally don't care if it will be a grinding game or a casual game because in the end i'll eventually get my sp. Don't care if there are ppl that enjoy grinding sp and get far ahead of me. However, with the current daily cap, its not going to take ppl to long to max out a role or two, then they will probably never buy another booster unless a ton more skills are introduced for each profession.
But whatever, if they want to test this method, then i'll be happy help.

This is a pretty contentious issue. The problem with the weekly cap was that a lot of players would hit the cap by or during the weekend and come Monday and Tuesday the servers would be dead because there was little reward in playing. The daily cap fixes this problem but reintroduces the issue of the uber-grinders.
I've heard a few ideas about averaging it out over time or something along those lines but not sure I quite understood it all. It's definitely not a simple problem with a simple solution. |

No problem regarding the fact that previous weekly cap was too easily reached in 1 or 2 days. But it wasnt the "Weekly" part of it that was wrong. But the diminishing return and the cap itself. First SP income of the week were way too high and the cap too low for it to last a full week.
If a hardcore gets to reach such a cap in 5 days, i guess it would be good. It would mean that most casual would never reach it, thus reward for playing a lot, while still giving a chance to guys that mostly play on specific days (work, wife and all that) to not feel punished.
But in the end, the best solution would be a mix of those two systems (numbers are for example only) :
1) Daily cap say 150K and a weekly cap at 1050K SP 2) Pool system for people missing a day of reaching cap but with a penalty. => here's how it would work.
Examples 1) Hardcore dude. Gets to reach daily cap every day. Earns 150K daily and 1050K over a week. No brainer. 2) Casual dude plays 1st day and earns 100K. So still missing 50K to reach cap. => Those 50K gets into a SP pool minus 10% => 45K Then, casual dudes doesnt play on day 2, 3 and 4. => Sp pool is then 45k + ((150*3)*0.1) => 450K => Finally, casual dude decides to play hard on day 5. So he's got 600K SP he can earn. Diminishing return is tweaked according to total SP pool available, obviously with a maximum SP left untouched (no way that guy could earn 200K SP in one game) but with a slower dimishing returns. In the end, guy earns 400K SP of the 600K total SP pool. 200K leftover. => He plays on last day quite a bit. total pool is 150K+(200 *0.1) = 330K. He gets 100K SP
Overall, casual dude with one long session, and two shorter earns a total of 600K. But could have earn more even without playing for 3 days during the week.
Obviously, at the end of the said week, SP pool is emptied.
Just thoughts. would obviously need more math and thinking |

Something is going on but it's not the old weekly cap. I think the most SP I've gotten from a match since the cap was "reset" was maybe 7k and that was with probably 1500 WP. Things had already started slowing way down by the time I hit 100k. |

I like Cazaderon's idea above ^ I think this is what I've seen before and agreed with.
But yeah, the daily cap definitely did not reset at DT today, so maybe it's not working properly yet... |

Concur and would like to see it presented as something like a meter (similar to stamina meter) that empties when you play and re-fills when you are idle. Where you have a quick visual reference you can check to see where your potential sp pool is at, and your potential earnings.
This makes sense to me for SP because it does seem that you would necessarily get diminishing returns on practicing a skill the more you worked on it without stopping. Cross training and rest are important.
Also would like to see a third reward (beyond ISK, and SP) for full time hardcore players that does not have diminishing returns. Something like Core points that could be redeemed for items, badges, etc. It could be more of a vanity reward (but would also reflect well on your character when other players were looking at your record) and would not make your character more powerful or advanced vs. other players who do not have as much time to grind.

I haven't played today. But I played last night and the night before and I was earning around 10K to 18K per match and I was no where near 1000WP's. So I don't know if I am doing something different than the rest of everyone but that is how it has been going for me. |

After playing a lot, it appears as though CCP lowered the old weekly cap and put in a daily cap.
My first impression is that:
Weekly cap is possibly 300,000 to 400,000 SP Daily cap is possibly 25,000 to 50,000 SP
Rough estimates, as only one day of testing :p.
But hopefully it will help some players and alleviate some worries from others.
Yesterday morning I was getting well over 20k SP/match, now I'm hitting around 5k-ish. I haven't been able to completely fix the difference between today and yesterday as match results/WP were fairly different. I'm attempting to get my SP gain under 1k, and I'll compare the difference between that and what I gain the next day.
I noticed that a dev/gm combined threads into this one, so I won't make a new thread for it, but it'd be nice if people could help in testing. If we get a bunch of peeps writing down the difference in totals between resets it will help pinpoint the cap.
EDIT: There is no daily cap. It's still weekly, but it feels like they lowered how much you can earn per week. |

Also, in support of the new changes, the old system was terrible for new players. The older players would always have an advantage that could never be matched/overcome. All you had to do was log on to battles with your corp for two days and you'd be set.
The daily cap is not meant to be hit every day by every player. This allows newer players to devote more time to become closer to the older players, and the weekly cap will make it so older players do not have to play every day to keep up with the newer ones.
On average, someone who plays a game all the time will be better at that game than someone who does not. You'd don't "generate" skill by not playing a game. I don't see the new system as too unfair and IMBA if there is a large weekly cap with a smaller daily one. It just means less alts :>. |

So because not everyone can play all night or all day, others have to suffer and get lower sp? So basically instead of the person working out everyday getting stronger hes not allowed to gain muscle because hed be able to punch out all the nerds that are too lazy to go work out? Yea, thats fair. We went from survival of the fittest to "hold on wait for the others."
When the hell did war become welfare based? Thats irritating that my growth gets halted because you cant play as much as i do. |

These are definitely wrong estimates - at least with the daily cap. In fact yesterday alone I earned around 200k or maybe more at around 15k - 20k per match. Today however I was only earning around 5k per match with similar WP earnings.
This is also the first I have heard about both a weekly and daily cap being in place. Does anyone have any word from the devs to confirm that both are in place? |
