Batman: Arkham Asylum Batman: Arkham City BioShock Infinite Borderlands Borderlands 2 DC Universe Online Dishonored Gears of War Gears of War 2 Gears of War 3 Mass Effect Mass Effect 2 Mass Effect 3 Mortal Kombat Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 XCOM: Enemy Unknown
All of the time I see people blasting CCP for using the Unreal Engine 3. So just remember when you are calling Unreal engine 3 crap you are calling all of these games crap. Unreal has been tested and tried and is a great engine for Dust 514. |

How were these not on the list?
I debated over putting those on the list, I agree they are triple A titles and are great but I did not think the majority of people would agree. It was a tough decision not to list them.

Unreal has been tested and tried and is a great engine for Dust 514. Wow I'm impressed by that line up... So the fact I don't enjoy any.of those games/series prove that a number of underclass and marginally popular games were made on this. However I may think those games arnt worth the effort to pick up most of dust issue are related to programming not the engine. Most of the problems from lag hit detection other server issues are cuased by poor engine allocation, the ps3 has the power ccp isn't used to having a define power though
To each there own, not everyone is not going to like everything. I did not care for Batman or the Mass Effect series but I can not deny these games are not hits and are way more then marginally popular, the numbers speak for them self. |

EDIT. mass effect one was really buggy.
Lol on the Mass Effect. I borrowed my friends copy for xbox got one hour into it and could not take anymore quit and wrote off all the others because of that. I do plan on trying it again in December when ps3 gets the trilogy.

As much as I would love to see CCP use their own engine, since Carbon is sexy as hell; UE3 will allow them to port to PS4 and maybe even PC (someday) with very little effort. PS3 isn't exactly simple to develop for, but UE3 provides a lot of time saving tools for cross platform builds, as well as some excellent features for scalability.

I'm personally looking forward to them dropping UE for their own in-house engine as they suggested they intend to do. I'd love to see a high-tech Trinity 3.0 running EVE, Dust, and WoD.
I do not understand what you mean by UE3 is not built for a game like this when it has run Gears of War 2 and 3 which are both exceptional multiplayer FPS and Tera which IMO is a very beautiful MMO. It is definitely capable of handling a MMOFPS. I have to wonder if they even would switch engines this far in because it is a pain in the ars to do even if they got trinity to work on ps3. |

I'd have to agree with necro here. Yeah, there are some beautiful games on the PS3 system, and there are plenty that use the UE3. However, an overwhelming majority of those games are campaign games only. And for those that do have multiplayer capabilities, they are generally no where near as expansive as this game.
When the system tries to run a game like say COD, it has to take into consideration a few things and open up "packs" that contain these things so they can be used in the game. These include the different weapons, different attachments, kill streaks, and a couple perks that might affect your characters physical performance.
Now think in terms of Dust's pack size. It has to load in packs that contain over 100 different weapons, and eventually each will have different attachments, vehicles each with dozens of weapons and over 100 modules that affect their performance and survivability, each one fitted uniquely, dropsuits that have over 100 different modules that affect your performance and survivability, again each one fitted uniquely, and 100's of skills, each different for each player, several of which have to be used in conjunction with the skills of the other players and calculated accordingly on the fly.
Dust has so much it has to process at any given time that quite frankly, it's incredible they've gotten this far on the limitations the PS3 infringes, (256 MB RAM? You can buy the Raspberry Pi computer for 35$ and it has double that, or upgrade my desktop to 8 gigs for $40.)
Great points, one thing no one can deny is ps3 poor ram allocation and this is from a fanboy :)
