Can anyone pls shed some light onto why some ppl seem to be able to take multiple hits without any armor or shield depletion?
I can understand if they are in cover, but i have hit the same guy who was sat out on a road 7 times from pretty close range, and im an ok sniper!??
Can you stack some sort of mega shield that takes no damage except it slightly shimmers to suggest a hit without any damage?
Kinda bugging me now! lol
Any help or views would be appreciated :)

Nah, I been playing this a while now, it was v close as far as snipers go. Literally right infront of me, no cover, begging to be hit. I've found it happen a few times, a cracklings silver haze in surrounding them?
Maybe it's lag, but to happen for 3 reloads is strange! :) |

I can think of 2 possibilities:
1. Near misses sometimes cause a shield flare without damaging the target. If they're moving, the game might be JUST laggy enough to track your shots around the target instead of through it.
2. There were really, REALLY, REALLY bad hit detection issues in the early days of the E3 build. THe hotfixed some of them away, and have been improving with each patch, but they still kick in occasionally. You might be a victim. |

As far as i know its lag related as the sheild shimmer suggests a hit thats done client side but the hit boxes them self are done servor side

I don't now what it is, but when it's happened to me it's always been with a sniper rifle, and very often against stationary targets. Re-zooming combined with a slight change in position seems to fix it with a bit of reliability. |

thanks for those posts, a very frustrating problem for me, but sound advice!
Il try the re-focus and shift position, see if that works, if not, il continue to curse my controller, and maybe headbutt the wife a bit more!! lol
No no, i wont do that its totally over the top, its not the controllers fault!! lol
Thanks peeps :)
(that really was a joke, just thought id clarify that, bound to be someone phoning the police right about now!! lol)

Hit detection is still ****, and I say this as a sniper myself. I'm basically done with this build because it has the same horrible hit detection that Precursor had. You will put your reticule over a stationary enemy, at close range or long, shoot him numerous times, watch him look around in panic as he hears the shots you're firing, and yet do zero damage despite the shield flash indicating a hit.
It is incredibly frustrating. There is nothing you can do to fix it. It's CCP's problem. Dust is the only game I've ever experienced such a thing in.

It may be lag related but it isn't a miss. I've literally been ~1 m from an enemy sniper who ran up to snipe where I was sniping from, and didn't see me. I put an entire magazine into him at point blank range, shield flashes and all, with no damage done. I've been at close-ish range, where the dot is dead centre on an enemy moving away from me, where the shot couldn't have missed, and done no damage. Enemy snipers sitting crouched, I've put multiple mags into some of them in pure frustration, where I know I hit them because they were totally exposed and I was lined right up. Zero damage.
This isn't about aim. This is about a flawed game in some technical sense. If you don't do a lot of sniping you may not notice it, because if 1/3rd of your assault rifle bullets do no damage, you may not notice at all. But if you are shooting one shot at a time, you notice. Incidentally, the problem is noticeable with shooting the scrambler pistol as well. |

If we assume that shield flare is client side and hit detection is server side (extremely safe assumptions) then we know that the error lies with the communication between the client and the server. To calculate a hit the server does three things, it checks your position, it checks the vector the shot was fired at, and finally it checks if there are any players on that vector, using your position as the origin.
We know that this bug still affects shots taken against stationary targets, so straight up lag is out. We know lag is a serious issue, so we can assume that CCP wants to cut down on the traffic to and from the server, therefore we can assume that the client might not update the server on variables that have not changed. And finally we know that changing things sometimes does help.
My (admittedly half baked) theory is that there is either a bug in the way the client sends positional data, or that lag causes an error along the route. With a stationary shooter taking the same shot over and over again, the position of the shooter or the vector of the shot could be bugged, and until the bugged element changed and got updated, it would be damn near impossible to hit anything, since your client is showing the shot as it should be, but the server thinks (for example) that the shot is coming from 3 feet to the right. Snipers are most affected as they're the ones most likely to not move, or adjust a perfectly good shot.
Again, this is total conjecture based on a bunch of assumptions, and I am very tired atm |

As a sniper myself I can attest to this awful "bug". Until you move your position no number of shots will inflict damage on the target(s) whether they remain stationary or moving or your adjust you aim to fall somewhere else on the target. Sometimes shifting your position a couple feet solves it and sometimes it doesn't. I tend to continue creeping either along the ridgeline or closer to the edge until I finally get a hit...sometimes this take 3-4 adjustments. Occasionally my first shot won't damage but my second one will.
If I had to guess I'd say that 20-30% of my shots are effectively "duds". I only hope every Sniper has the same handicap.
My guess is that this bug is at least casually related to the bug where you can't revive a downed teammate because the server corpse position and the client corpse position are different, if you flair around enough in the general area where the body is displayed you sometimes get the revive but it can be as much as 10-20 feet away from the actual displayed body location. |

a crackling silver haze???? i saw someone running around like that too!!! i think i could damage him though.... idk i was so overwhelmed when i saw him sprinting with silver shimmers radiating off him i may have missed...... the problem you have is probably that the guy was getting disconnected so his body just looked like it was there. atleast ive had that happen to me before??? idk next time just give up on life and hit the suicide button (i mean afterall it was probably just the clones incompetance right???) |

Myself and a number of guys I run with have been experiencing this more and more as of late. You know you are hitting the opposing player but their shields/armor arent being depleted. I personally cant wasnt having this problem at the beginning of this build. A player in my corp suggested that the problem wasnt as evident with militia gear. Could just be coincidence but could the problem be related to more advanced gear? |

You are either out of range, or its more hit detection problems. I know that the shields will flare and no damage will be done if you are too far out. |

Perhaps it's an intentional solution to the annoying number of snipers in DUST right now.
Why is it that, no exaggeration, half a team of 16 players can all be snipers, more often than not most of them sat on the same rooftop !
Will some of you please spec a shotgun or something useful to assist capturing the objectives, or at least just go play in ambush matches. |

Even better: they could start using tactical snipers, and skill into scrambler pistol operation and sidearm sharpshooter- very effective in the middle of a squad, because they can both take out targets before they get in range (or snipers, forge gunners, and turret operators), and still be pretty good in closer range if they remember to aim with the scrambler. |

I rarely pick up a sniper rifle and when I do, it's a militia rifle. This bug affects those too. It's been happening with all the weapons, it's just more noticeable with low rate of fire weapons. I have noticed it with my scrambler pistol and have had occasion where I overheated my HMG into an assault trooper's back and, though it was registering the hits, I did zero damage. Said trooper turned, chased me around behind my cover, and killed me during cool down. |

Said trooper turned, chased me around behind my cover, and killed me during cool down. I had a really great example where I unloaded a full mag from my Militia Sniper and only had one hit register on an unmoving target while I was firing at the same location on the target every time. All of them showed hit markers, but only the last round did any damage.
Then I swapped to my SMG, jumped over his head, and unloaded 80 rounds into his head while he turned. Dealing a grand total of 0 damage.
At which point he tore me in half with his HMG while I reloaded.
I still got the Assist. That'll do. |

Iv had this too. I'm a crap sniper tbh, but I know when I hit and when I don't. The guy I was shooting took 5 rounds, he then moved about 10 ft and stood still again, hit him and almost killed him, he moved back to original spot, invoulnerability resumed. I don't know whether he KNEW that open spec of road made him invulnerable or if he just ran back there as he thought well I'm getting sniped here but I wasn't over there |

Instead of moaning about it, lets be productive.
This happened to me on MANUS PEAK. I was crouched in a hill south of the point next to the spire on the hill. The guy I was shooting was standing out of cover on the road 50m right of the point next to the mountain(looking at the map on the forums the east most capture point) |

drommy has the right idea here. use this thread to report as many details about the incident as you can so ccp can determine its cause and fix it. just saying it has happened to you is not enough info for dev's to replicate it and fix it. give as many details as you can remember. this is what we are here for guys to find bugs and help squash them.

Were you trapped inside a texture? Sometimes terrain that you're halfway inside blocks the shot. Was it just a typo for "on"? Sometimes if you're behind the crest of the hill, your gun barrel is low enough that the game registers the shot hitting the hillside in front of you. My example was also on Manus Peak, and I think the map has a few areas with pretty bad glitchy hit detection when shooting on certain angles across non-level terrain. |

It was damn annoying last night ... battle started 2 minutes in the enemy had all 5 objectives and there were maximum 5 of us running round, no vehicles, just snipers ... I counted 7 of them sat on the same rooftop! So I climbed up, emptied every round I had into them and dropped a nanohive to carry on throwing off their aim, I still came third on the end of match board after spending 80% of the match disrupting snipers.
It's no wonder there's so much sniper hate on these forums after seeing a battle like that ... They have no care for winning the match they're just padding K/D stats ... They'll get a wake up when friendly fire comes and the competent half of the team gives up on the objectives and takes frustration out on them. |
