Can't decide whether I want to play Caldari or Amarr on release.

Tyrus Four 128	Posted - 2012.11.10 20:09:00 - [1] - Quote bah. been playing Amarr in beta, but Caldari seems pretty interesting too, and their quarters don't look half-bad. plus I hear Caldari needs people more than any of the other races in the actual EVE Universe. or was that Amarr? I don't recall. more importantly, I've no clue how my race affects my gameplay in Dust. obviously in EVE it affects the ships you can initially fly and where you start and things like that. doesn't seem to matter much in Dust..yet. thoughts?

Really, it doesn't effect your game play at all. Just pick the one you think best suits you (pun intended) Gallentes are pretty cool

There are far more caldari charachters than any other race. Amarr is much lower, but over the years with range being focus for so many people I think Gallente may be the new dying breed

Yes, it determines the NPC corporation that you end up in, but if you choose to go Faction Warfare, you can choose to sign up with whomever you like (or whomever your CEO likes if you are in player corp). The only difference is the Mercenary Quarters, and that is all aesthetics.

Aesthetics is why i won't play Matari. sure they have the only "black" race in EVE, and I usually play characters that look like me somewhat, but the Tribal lore Aesthetic of the Matari and is something I was just never a fan of. fact is, in this Beta there isn't enough information to make a real decision anyway. we're all using the same equipment, there is very little lore connected to the races in regards to DUST, the only difference is the design of our MQs. I was just musing. I expect this to change long before release though, when each race gets their own full complement of equipment, and the skill books necessary to use them. and we finally get a full suite of character creation like EVE.

When I finally made an alt of a differemt empire or whatever they are I saw the different quarters. My main is Gallente with the red symbol race. But the only real difference I can find is the starter LAV which is night and day IMO. With my alt I chose Caldari and some race and you get a shield heavy LAV with a militia shield repper and militia missle launcher. I assumed until I knew this that all these "box" type LAVs were ISK purchases/skilled into. I would like to know what other empires/races give the free "box" shield/missle LAV b/c it is so much better than the "bubble" armor/blaster one ATM.

You're quaters will be determined by the owner of the station you're unit is currently based at. So amaar stations will have Amaar rooms regardless of YOUR faction. This is of course assuming you get into Factional Warfare and Alliances.

Gallente fits will generally be armored, while the Caldari will maintain their shield based combat, as we can already see from what we've been given. Now add the other races attributes to gear, and have each set of gear have their own race variant. We'll have Amarr assault suits and Minmatar scouts, and all the rest all varied to their races attributes similarly. So while the race you choose to be will only really affect your merc quarters, what gear you choose to use will affect your performance on the battlefield. However, regardless of what races perform best in different areas, Gallente will always be my go to gear of choice!
