This game is MMO and I am planning on playing it for a long time like an MMO as long as it's well made. Take all the time that you need CCP. No prob waiting for release so long as we get a meaningful reward for playing a long beta - don't erase all my SP with every new build! It would be nice if you got to keep 20 or 30 % of what you earned. |

Now ccp has the time to transform dust 514 from a virtual unplayable abomination of a game to something that will be at least mediocre, maybe even somewhat respectable. |

I don't know if 8 months will give them enough time. They ought to aim for a Christmas 2013 release (at the earliest), in my opinion. |

Maken Tosch wrote:There is a difference between making a game accessible and making a wannabe battlefield/call of duty game. Eve Online is quite accessible in many ways but you have to know where to look. There are players in Eve who have created characters and somehow managed to achieve earning billions of ISK a month through market trading alone inside just a single month or two. Then there are the players who focused everything in learning all about missions or piracy in a single month and are now making mad ISK through mission loot or from ransoming other players.
I hope this is what CCP meant by accessible. Allow players ample opportunities to prosper quickly but they must work for it and know where to look.
What I gather of CCPs definition of accesability for Dust is that casual gamers can come in for an "instant battle" and have fun shooting people in the head on a platform that console gamer types are familiar with, and then go about their day. As much as I love Eve, it really is not very accessible to the casual gamer. Outside of established networks like SA or Reddit (others, but those are what I know) new players come in naked and with no advantage at all. Casual gamers with no contacts burn out on mining or missioning long before actually having a chance to enjoy what the game provides. If they do happen to suffer years of this, they are institutionalized in their comfort zone so much that the best parts of New Eden are "out there..", "them.."
Even for the institutional people that never leave hisec, there is great opportunity for the sharp minded risk taker. By and large, these aren't the people that come from other FPS games. At risk of stereotype, these folks are frontline fighters. Successful Dust corps do need a mass majority of ball breakers, with the token few beancounters. I digress..
For the OP, it does suck for the pushback. This is also ground breaking stuff, best to have it as right as it can be.

GREAT NEWS!
Very glad to hear that CCP are getting the time they need to polish/fix. Personally I love the game but its very frustrating at times in it's current form. This level of flakeyness would really put off new players.
I really want to see the game succeed so it's key new players who dip into the game for an evening get a good experience.

They did mention mid 2013 as a possible release date, but as usual of CCP, they said it as if it's something that's subject to change. |

This is great news, the game still needs a ton of work. As far as I'm concerned the longer they wait the better off everyone will be Dust players and EVE Players.
The last thing I need is a broken FPS game messing up my spaceship game. |

you can see today CCP posted on their site: http://www.dust514.com/news/press/2012/11/mmorpg.com-preview-the-codex-update/
this is what CCP links to on their site: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/494/feature/6857/DUST-514-The-Codex-Update.html
this is said: "So it's still very much a construction site that surrounds D514, with the eventual Eve Online additions promising to heighten the already promising experience. There are still a few kinks to be worked out, and a few textures that aren't looking too sharp, but this is to be expected in a self-proclaimed "work in progress.""
and this: "With no release date as of yet, other than "sometime next year" the future for CCP, Eve Online, and Dust 514 is looking very bright. We can all exhale and relax in the knowledge that this is a great game in its own right - the bells and whistles of MMORPG integration will be an extra thick topping of sugary bonus. I can't wait." |
