I can say without hesitation that the most unappreciated, unrewarded role right now is the recon role. How many times did you just barely survive a situation, or get the jump on the enemy because someone managed to tag someone trying to be sneaky on the map?
People who take the time to watch for undetected enemies, or who make the effort to run around with an active/passive scanner, however, get absolutely nothing for doing supporting the team this well.
I suggest to add an assist system for detecting players- If an enemy, who you tagged (intentionally or not) gets killed by someone else on your team, you'll get a +15 "scan assist" Obviously, if that person already had a red dot/arrow over their head as you're looking at them, whoever tagged them would get the assist, not you.
I think this will encourage the recon role, get people to actually use profile dampeners/scan enhancers/active scanners, and introduce some new setups/strategies (Ever notice that LAVs are listed as scout vehicles?)
Thoughts?
EDIT: A regular assist would cancel this assist out, since people who are just going for kills instead of tagging as many people as possible don't completely overshadow recons in WP. |

+1, though I don't think scan assist should be more than 10 points since they're really easy and often accidental. |

In Resistance 3, and even Gotham City Imposters, they had an active scanner that allowed a person to see enemies through walls and mark enemies on the map. Anyone that kills a marked enemy gives the person with the scanner 10 extra points. Upgrades to the scanner included faster marking, and multiple marks scanned.
It was nice for snipers to help keep track of enemies even when they went around cover, but you had to remark them after about 20 seconds. Both games had ways to counteract the active scanners (radar jammers, or abilities) so that they could be avoided. |

However, I think points should only be awarded for using scanner modules, not as part of the passive scanning. |

Good point, but then what would be the reasoning behind using a passive scanning infantry module? Passive scanning is more of a self defense utility. Passive scan range is about 15m per default, so when you scan someone you practically stand next to him already. It's only really useful when someone is hiding behind a corner or on a roof above you.
Active scanning should award assist, because you are doing something actively to help out your team. However, automatic line of sight tagging should not award extra points, that would be silly. Scan assist would be all over the place, because everyone is permanently tagging anyone he sees. Players should only be rewarded for taking a specific, useful action, like using the active scanner. If you engage the enemy, you already get points for shooting or killing, no need to get scan assists just because you see the enemiey while you engage him.

Well i have to agree as it is a support role that is getting overlooked in my opinion the suits scanners both standard and boosted should tag the victim and reward the player if victim is killed as for the crossing the line of sight i dont think that should be done automaticly it should be manual press[ insert button here] to spot the enemy this should also be rewarded and it adds a whole new strenght to the scout class maybe if they have a stronger ability to do this than other suitsor maybe if they do it passivly as a sort of suit bonus or maybe a module bonus |

Actually, I generally have passive scanning set out to 27.5 meters and at 40.5 precision. With modules I can (and periodically do) run 41.25 meters with 36.45 precision. Granted the build is mainly for kicks (named "radar love") It has a precision level just above (worse by .45) the second rank of the active scanners with 55% of the range (not bad considering it's always on). If spotting is about to hand over sp for it, it should reward everyone who does it. Granted, this makes it extremely difficult to deal with, which is probably why it is not currently rewarded. I am all for it considering I have put some major sp into it, but some thought needs to go into how to reward spotters.
Then again, right now I'd be happy with some more info on how the damn scanners work. |

Well... I have yet to see the value in the adjective 'massive'. Tactically it is of value to know where the enemy is... but better to have them dead. Up to know we have had enough signals to know where the enemies are - Taking an objective, callouts about snipers, vehicles showin up on the maps, etc.
Perhaps when the maps are sooo large or fog or something else makes me not know where the enemies are, then they will be justified. The only advantage I see now is when I have been calling in an orbital and I had no red dots on the map to use it effectively - could have used a scanning buddy then. |

It's pretty common for FPSes to have this kind of system to incentivize reconnaissance playing. Not to say "we should be more like [insert other FPS here]", but Battlefield 3 and the latest COD iteration both have this feature to one degree or another, so it seems to be a pretty tried-and-true feature. |

While quite useful, I would like to know more about the whole scanning mechanic. As I've mentioned, I've sunk quite a bit of sp into the skills associated with it and still know a minimum of what exactly they do.
still, you get +1's for your research. |

Hopefully there will also be active scanners for vehicles-
Part of the reason I made this thread is because when fighters are released, I want to try fitting a bunch of scanning modules on a fighter to make a kind of "spy plane" |

It would help make scout suits more useful again that 25m base scan is pretty nice & the right skills will get you up to a 31.25m base scan -- makes them feel a lot more like scouts. |

Something like a +1 Scanner Assist, enough to let people know you are doing your job, I like to lead while being in a logistics suit. I have all my scanning skills at level 3 and it does help. The active scanner only works in a cone shape in the direction you are aiming it. It works best in close quarters or if you run point and stay out in front. |

And while a +1 scan assist would let us know we're doing our job, we would still get practically no WP for being a good scout (at least on the plus side, deaths would be pretty low for scouting) |
