Why play a broken game? Then why be a beta tester? Real testers get paid.
Provided the company can afford to pay someone who sits around and plays the games. CCP has one game actually out. Which just happens to be EvE. This will eventually be their second. Now, why would CCP spend money hiring people to just sit around and test the game for them when the people that will actually play the game after it comes out are more then willing to test it. |

Reasons I stopped playing Dust514:
I'm involved in at least two other betas at the moment, compared to them this one plays more like an early alpha.
SP reset nuked my character back to day 1 just as he was becoming fun to play.
SP cap. It's nearly impossible to level anyting at a decent rate, I'd like to see progress sooner than a couple weeks out.
ISK gain reduction. I can't afford even basic fits. What fun is running around in militia gear getting smoked every 2 minutes?
Under the current build my fights pretty much always go like this: See enemy -> Lag Spike -> Die Is that fun? Nope.
Extremely twitchy mouse controls; I don't know what they changed in this build but aiming is.....difficult.
There are other, smaller reasons, but these are the main ones. I'll be back at release, for now there are better uses of my limited gaming time.

I only have maybe an hour or two of free time any given night. I can spend it swearing at Dust, where I die from two bullets, can barely progress, struggle to figure out a limited selection of poorly explained items and skills that may or may not work, die from trying to walk uphill, hit the fire button three times only to fire once and miss because of lag, and make a nearly insulting amount of SP and ISK for my frustration... Or I can play Borderlands 2, which lets me customise my character, steadily become more powerful, and has an awe-inspiring variety of weapons and items, which all work.
Now, don't get me wrong--I like Dust. I have big, big hopes for this game, and I can't wait to see all the awesome things coming SOON (tm). But in the meantime, I like to have fun in my scant, scant bits of free time. So yeah, I've gone from playing every night, to playing once or twice a week. |

Most people already dislike the beta for reasons that should have been addressed along time ago.
-Balancing issues. -CCP over nerfing things to make them ussless (Breach AR is worthless btw) -Frame rate problems that should have been addressed way back in the June Beta. -Massive freezing -Massive client crashes. -Nerfs stuff that doesn't make sense and buffing things that don't even need a buff. -Beta causing peoples PS3 to YLoD -CCP adding in a SP Cap (I for one like this idea but the game limit is already 2 low when you can reach the cap in less than 4 days. Hell on my 2 days off I reached it in 2 and a half days.) -One gun out shines all the guns now (AR that is so it takes away the verity of weapons with the limited weapons already) -Gameplay is extremely slow and easy. (Wouldn't be this slow and easy to kill others if strafing wasn't nerfed.) -Vehicle spam. (I've played Battlefield games since 2004 and DUST 514 beats Battlefield on vehicle spam) -Lack of being able to play with more than 3 people in a group. (Face it, people wanna play with more than just 4 people in a group at a time. -New players don't stand a chance to players ranked/skilled up. -Did I mention the massive frame rate lag problems that have been there that CCP has still yet to full address since the June beta? -Game feels more like "Pay to Win" and "Grind to Win" even though there is a SP cap in place. (Remember some of these players have no life/job/family so they can play all day/night and hit that SP cap within 2 or 3 days and they don't have a reason to play after that till next week.) -A lot of players already feel this game is always going to be in beta stage since it's free to play and Sony hasn't really given CCP a time frame to release the game. -Other games are coming out so why wait on just one game?
There is more issues I could address since this isn't even the tip of the iceberg but CCP is going to lose a lot of players at the rate they are going. Anyways, sorry for any typos. Had to post this on my iPhone. |

How to balance... I know! Make it so every character is capable of learning every skill! (think about it... think about it)
You can tell real beta testers from the wannabe beta testers.
Real beta testers provide useful feed back and bug reports and slog through the broken and buggy issues to find more to report.
Wannabe beta testers complain about the bugs and the broken issues provide no useful feedback and scream at CCP to concede to the wannabe's desires.
Then there's the inbetweeners. They complain, but they understand the nature of beta testing and still offer useful feedback rather than demands to concede to their wishes.
Finally there's the trolls. ('nuff said)
I try to be a real beta tester, but sometimes I end up an inbetweener. It's still better than being a wannabe or troll. I hope everyone is able to figure out where they sit on this simple spectrum. If not, I'm sure there are lots of trolls and wannabes that will be more than willing to tell you. |

The biggest and simplest problem is that they fix or improve something, and then they make it worse, or make something else a problem. They fix freezes only to create huge frame rate issues. They fix creodons, swarm launchers, tanks, and then create problems with the dropships and forge guns(they can shoot like sniper rifles, i mean they need range, but not infinite against infantry). Of course people will drop out with the skill resets, but to throw on top game breaking issues, CCP must fix what they have before you can add features or maps, I'm begging you to fix the basic gameplay, at least the framerate and dc'ing issues, if not the game will be infinitely less successful and popular. And it has too much potential to go down that path. |

I completely agree with you. IMO the biggest problems are lag, graphics lag, and DCs. If they can fix these, the rest should be numbers and settings. I would hope anyway. I know it's more complex. |

I've posted my fair share in the Feedback/Request section, sadly though I don't even think the Dev's read half the post on there or a lot of the issues would have been fixed already. It's also kinda hard to see who is being legit on the forums about problems because of trolls, players who want the game to be catered to them, or players who just don't care and just post on threads for the hell of it. |

I'm an occasional player and I've put a few hours into each build but never made it too far really. Since I'm busy and there will be wipes I just dabble a few times, test different things out each time, and will likely play more after release. |

you can no longer use that as a baseline, they havent seperated dust players and eve players on sisi. that's just showing eve client numbers connected. numbers were hovering at 600-700 but declining gradually, no way would 500 people just drop off the face of the planet. not in 1 downtime anyway.
haven't played at all this build mouse sensitivity is broken and still is by the way. bug reported it weeks ago. |

I can tell you why I am not playing. 1) dropships still don't get any WP for doing theryr job 2) logisuit don't get wp anyomore for repping 3) people are dumb and don't use my nanohives/drop uplinks 4) logisuit need 3x more isk and sp than any other suit 5) PAYOUT IS BASED BY META LEVEL OF PEOPLE KILLED, so even reviving half the team, capping objectives and replenish ammo a logi STILL gets less than an assault suit.
I wanted to play this game because it was different from any other but currently i only see assault dudes and snipers, AUR dropsuit remove the "loosing stuff" factor. Battles have no true meaning, making dust a laggy version of mag/section8 where (if you don't bu AUR) you have to worry about your stuff. |

serves them right anyway, who in their right mind would release a build then send all the staff on vacation for weeks (they worked really hard to hit a sony deadline probably and deserve a vacation but they should learn from their eve background that there was going to be problems there always is). add the fact they dragged people from other projects that would love to see this one fail = big problems. |

I havent played in about a week. I just can't seem to get motivated enough for this any more. I don't know if that's a failing of myself or the game. And I since I still need to finish Borderlands 2 and then play Darksiders 2 and Dishonored, I'm probably not going to be playing much Dust in the future. |

Dishonored will take you about 2-3 days tops... Borderlands 2 is great fun with friends but kinda dull when alone, and i gave up with the first Darksiders so i won't even play this one....
Dust is a struggle to keep coming back to due to all the current issues that still need a fix...
but the way i see it, if we don't keep testing, the game will be poor on release....
so even if i take a week or 2 break here and there, i will continue to return to dust to test a few things out.
Why bother coming on it if you aren't planning on trying to help....
I think alot of people left because they don't want to help, they just wanted to be among the first to play the game. |

partially i think your right. i lost to will to bug report when they caved into IRC pressure last build and changed the isk gains so the whiners could run around in expensive suits ALL the time. i took the attitude that if they are going to screw over their own game that much and blatantly disregard all of the balances and game design that went into the game up to that point and change it on a whim with a hotfix because of some people in IRC well they dont deserve free testers. i still bug reported but didnt actually go looking for bugs. i played the game more than i tested it at that point if you get what i mean.
it's been ongoing since then, mouse sensitivity is broken, if that hadnt happened in IRC and the devs doing a u turn i'd have knuckled down and tested with the controller or suffered with the mouse settings as they are instead i''ve been on these forums daily since the 1 oct making a nusance of myself.
ps can you still lock onto dropships that have just deployed vehcles with the swarm? play around a bit with that, you guys will find a very annoying bug. i doubt they fixed it, they didnt fix anything i reported as people are still reporting the exact ones i reported months ago. not good when real beta testers see nothing is being done especially with dust being so close to release. they give up, whats the point. |

Cyn Bruin wrote: I understand not all can be on at once and this game has a wide range of people in different time zones in it.
But I have never seen more than 700 on during the weekends when I usually get to play however much I want since no work. I look at the Sisi population at 11amcst, 7pmcst and 4amcst and it always stays about the same if not lower. 300-700 people.
My point is I would like to see some new people in beta, no matter where they come from. It was very cool having 3k+ people online, going up against new people (new to me, not the game) is always a plus.
I'd like to know when they are going to open it up a bit, I don't mean open beta, although that might be the next time they add more people.
I barely play this build now. Takes forever to level stuff, the map is just laggy as hell, and I just don't find this build as much fun to play as the last one. Not being able to move sideways just makes it into a game of who shoots first and has more damage mods. No way to dodge enemy fire. Even my swarms tend to hit the terrain more than the enemy.

There is no Sony enforced deadline. Sorry to disappoint you. And if CCP doesn't feel Dust is ready, as per CCP's satisfaction, at their tentative end of the year deadline, then they'll delay the release until they feel it is ready.
And people need to quit assuming that they know what CCP is shooting for with this game. They had a plan and, as they already knew and the event has shown, no plan survives it's encounter with the enemy.
Get some maturity and be patient. If what Dust is, or becomes isn't to your liking, don't gripe and troll, just go play something else. |
