When getting used to a map it takes more than a quick glance to orientate myself on the mini map as to where north is. This makes it hard to give fast and exact info/orders to teammates. Would it be possible to increase the size of the N, or even just make it a more intense color to stand out. Both would be excellent.  |

I've caught myself doing this a few times.
Spawn, spin around until I can see the N on the minimap turn. |

Yeh, taking longer than a split second to orientate yourself can be the death of you and your team mates. It'd save the situation of directions being given using left, right, behind you, etc that has the recipient spinning in a circle trying to line up. Funny as hell to watch and listen to, less so when you're involved. |

Also adding the rest (W,S,E) would be great, I know it takes only 1-2 sec to "compute" the directions when you have N but those 1-2sec could be the difference between life and.. a bullet in your head from a sniper |

Haha, there have been times I thought it had disappeared when the N happened to have a bunch of icons on the mini map right beside it.
+1 to that Lion. Having a very distinct north, with the rest of the cardinal points there would be sweet. |

Indeed. They could do one better than just making it bigger or adding W, E, S. They could just show the direction we are pointing in degrees. It should not be rotating on the circle of the mini-map, it should be a readout.
And in the mini-map, I would put a green (or whatever color) line with a shadow from the center to the North, so you could instantly know your direction in reference to north, and it would always be visible. |

Seriously, I can't count the number of times I've said 'we are heading to (lettered objective) from the (compass direction)' and was told 'How do you know what direction (compass direction) is?' |

Haha, you're not the only one. Even knowing that it's there doesn't make it easy. CCP have talked about changing/adding to the mini map so hopefully they'll implement some of the compass ideas. |

Wait, it's actually an N? I just oriented myself to north on the overview map and noticed that the dot on the edge of the minimap matched up... |

Yep, there's a N on the rim of the mini map. It maintains horizontal as it rotates around which might be one of the problems I have with it. I use compasses a lot and I think my brain disregards the Dust one as the N rotates on the compass rim rather than like on a non digital one the N stays orientated to the center pivot point. Maybe I'm just getting old and need everything to be big, and slow  |

Well thanks for the heads up on this I hope it gets some love so it's easier to use but regardless of that I'll try to find it in game now. Having directions could be quite useful for squad play  |

I recognize this is an old thread, but as per forum rules and all that...
I, too, would like to see the N representing north on the compass stand out more - whether that's through an increased size, bolder font, whatever.
Adding the additional east, south and west points on the compass would be met with joy on my part as well. |
