I have to agree, with the state it's in right now, I can't even recommend this to anyone I know. I just decided to buy Farcry and farcry 2 the other day off of GOG, since they were on sale for $2.99. Been having more fun with those than I have with Dust honestly this last week. And I'll fully admit the only reason I haven't gone back to combat arms on the PC over this, is because I don't like dealing with all the hackers and script kiddies that permeate online PC games.
The OP and many others are right. Right now the CORE game play is shittastic. It doesn't feel fun at all, feels more like a chore, that I only keep doing and try and give feedback on to make the game fun again. Ultimately the catch 22 with strafing is, the only people it tends to benefit are the lone wolves. I find it just as easy to dodge by moving back and forth side ways. But on the other hand it does make it so heavies don't wander around solo as easily mowing people down with HMG's. Was indeed frustrating before, but not to the point where I felt it needed to be changed. And that is coming from an EVE player. |

Another way to look at it, now thaty they are finished their 2nd play through how much longer are they going to really be putting hours into it for? I love the first one and am only half way through the 2nd playthrough, and i put in maybe an hour a month, if that. And i have the full dlc for it. Its a fixed story line with a begining and an end in a somewhat fixed path. Dust isn't really like that. Even a couple of people i have tried to explain the whole thing to can't quite wrap there head around it. "so how do i know when i've won the game?" |

All 4 of us are grinders. Heck, we got 90% of the pearlescents in #1. Never did find the Anshin Rose. They'll be playing until they have a lvl 50 version of every unique. It's fun. Just throw it on, kill some dudes, maybe find some cool stuff.
Dust just isn't fun. There is very little incentive to play a game which isn't fun. |

Fun is subjective. Grinding in that way to me isn't that fun. Getting mails from someone crying to me about how we ruined their day is. Or how they want to change the terms of an agreement which doesn't benefit us/our corp and going out and messing up all their assets is fun. Well for me it is anyways. My son finds parking 6 lav's rather fun. With word on how the update after retribution for Eve is going to be with exploring complexes out of ship, maybe that will trickle down to Dust so there is the element of kill some dudes and find cool stuff actions that you guys find fun. |

It really is too late. Like I say, my buddies played replication, E3 and precursor. They had 1 game this build and said "LoLdustNo" and that's that. 1 of then has kept it on his HDD. He's already decided to not spend anything on the game, because it's just not worthy. So out of 5 people, I'm the only 1 who still has any interest in Dust. My buddy who kept it is just humouring me.
It's the backwards progress that is so damaging. |

Buff strafe speeds back to replication status. That summarizes the arguments of all lone wolfers crying out loud at the moment as they feel they won't get their kicks and high kdr's WITHOUT TEAMPLAY. To each and every one of you wanting strafe buff and power into their personal hands: Sorry, having small scale battle lines and fronts of infantry making a break into each other is not your 'boring campfest'. Replication was Dust at it's weakest with majority of mid-close encounters degenerating into turn&burn fights with reload speed competition (no matter what hit detection is). high strafe speeds make it too easy to dodge, especially when combined with the fact that dust suits have shields and stuff.
In this build, the first person to see an enemy has a guaranteed kill, unless the other person has an exponentially better suit and a lot of luck. That isn't what it should come out to. Replication, if I had the skill, I could help my team out, but other than personal gain, I wouldn't win. This build, it's not fun for solo players (and yes, we need them, not everyone plays as a team) or team players. I haven't ever seen 1 militia guy take out 2 other guys at once, no matter what his skill.
This isn't trench warfare. It's not meant to be. If you see any Dust interview, they explain it as fast-paced, moment-to-moment gameplay (I see you David Ried), and that type of gameplay has deteriorated over the builds. There have been 2 massive nerfs to movement speed. The first left a bad taste in the mouth. Second was never asked for, or needed.
Also, Longwood has a great thread that could work. |
