I remember my excitement on hearing that we would be beta testing dust but also at the same time there was a dire sense of forboding which I will go on to explain.
Eve players as I'm sure most people on here will agree are hardcore gamers.... Eve players in the top eve corps/alliances are the hardcore gamers of the hardcore gamers. My worst fear for Dust (which I saw as ccp wanting to go more mass market) was that we would make the game completely inaccesible for new players on release, as nobody wants to play a game were they are repetedly killed from day one and never even really have a chance at all.
On early beta the game was pretty much a free for all and bar its many bugs, it was actually quite fun, we got to tinker around with our skills and fight on a pretty level playing field. As the game has evolved through beta my worst fears seem to have materialized. Now it seems the game is completely unplayable unless you join a game as part of a pre existing squad, otherwise your always finding yourself being completely overwhelmed by squads of super organised hardcore dust players.
Being an eve player I'm pretty much used to always being ganked lol, however to put myself in the position of an FPS player trying a new game then from my fist match being ***** slapped into oblivion I couldn't see my love affair with dust lasting very long at all. I'm worried that the new players that come on release will immediately turn tail and run for the nearest modern warfare title, before they've even had chance to give their characters a good run.
I'd hate to see dust being a flop just because every new player just gets curb stomped from day one.
Has CCP any plan to address this potentially game killing issue?

If u are an eve player, you know that's the sandbox we live in. Eve has a learning curve, or cliff rather, main reason why its filled with mostly older aged players. It takes some skill and intelligence to survive in eve. Should be the same for dust imo. Sadly, any 12 year old can pick up this game and do fairly well. And it shows.
Ps. If your having troubles, the twelve year olds grab free lavs and crush people all match. Then when people complain that they are abusing game mechanics they just tell them to step up their gun game. |

As far as i know the plan is to have the higher payed jobs in low and null basicly hi sec will act as a sort of training ground for new guys PVE and all and will be relitivly low pay grade in comparision this will lead to most of the high end players migrating to the higher pay grade areas,of course there will be the few try hards that will stick around to noob stomp but i dont think they will last long if people deside to do a few anti try hard roams in high

And this is different from COD killstreaks, where one guy gets 50 kills in a row, and nukes everyone?
Games are hard. People play them to get good. The ones that don't will move on regardless of how awesome the game is. |

Nah! DUst is going to do its damnest to cater to the COD crowd in hindsight. One of the lead execs insi nuated so himself! Which is horrible news for the eve online n mag devotees who want this game to stay as far away from Cod style of play as much as possible |

And already the Insta-Battle is supposed to separate different level players. It is not working very well now, but with more people and a few tweaks, there is no reason it won't. |

Yes .. and no.... You meet hardcore players everywhere... As EVE now have around 50k ppl playing around online every day... DUST get own group of players. Only mater is how much.... Another 50k? 500k?
My wish is about steady 5kk-9kk :) But another 50k of core players will be great. At last as old eve player I can do something at low level of existence ;)... I die from 'hardcores'... but somehow I like it. It gives me reason to play again and get more skils.
So dont worry to much... future is claudy thing, but always have time to show rainbow. |

There is nothing they can do, nothing that any Developer can do to stop groups of organized players from stomping on random noobs bro.
It happens on ANY online game.
CCP has been smart enough to understand this and provide gameplay areas for the organized players, so they can focus MOST of their attention of curb stomping each other.
However, there will always be players grouping up, even in games that were launched with out a party system. (Three in the last 12 months) and even if they launch the games with out a functioning comm system and tiny squads like Bf3... people still grouped up, and stomped random players.
If they got rid of corps entirely, comms and party systems... people would use skype, jabber, teamspeak ect for comms... and would jump into the queues at the same time to end up in the same game and would still function as a squad.
Again... there is no way to stop them.
Besides joining a clan/corp to better defend yourself.
You know this better than anyone from your experience on Eve.
Experience is the knowledge you gained from FAILING.
Let the nubs fail... and then as they learn to adapt, they gain valuable experience that will serve them well in their offline lives.
Such as the value of TEAMWORK. Group relationship skills. Communication and Group Leadership and Organization.
That is the beauty of EVE, and why I am here for Dust.
I want to play in the sandbox, and make the other kids take their toys and go home. |

THIS
and particularly, the part where he mentions was CCP being smart enough to open up gameplay mechanics for organized teams to face eachother outside of pubs. Thats the most key.
But to be honest, OP, you should be rolling with a group of people, The style of this game, the team focus, is meant for you to be finding a group. Also keep in mind this is beta, so when game is fleshed out the 'hardcore' people, a lot of them anyways, wont be busying themselves with pubs all the time.
Atm you just have a heavy influx of organized competitive gamers per... capita?... on the beta. When it opens up it will be a lot more fish, and when game mechanics increase (FW, Null), a lot less competitive ones pubstomping. |
