The most troubling aspects of the SP cap are the potential permanent loss of sp by missing a week or more of the game, (permanently crippling you in relation to players who never miss a day), and also the potential loss of players who will not bother with any dedication once they realize half the week is useless in terms of advancing your characters skills.
The SP cap needs to reset every 3 days, on the third day the player should be getting almost no SP, but improved chances of rare drops. If dedicated players can't skill up, at least they might get a free tank, specialty gun, etc.
Players should get a significant passive SP bonus when they have missed playing for a few days. It should help fill the gap that will eventually separate the die hards from the casuals. This could also be circumvented by temporarily giving a greater active booster to players who have missed time.

Maximus Stryker wrote:I also commented this in other threads: Maximus Stryker wrote:my idea from this post: Maximus Stryker wrote:Personally, I would like to try out a 1 million SP per week cap with no/zero/0 degeneration.
You start out with 500,000 SP, ---- each week (Tuesday to Tuesday) your character can earn up to 1,000,000 SP at the normal rate (typically 20,000 to 30,000 per match).
If the "pro's" or individuals with a lot of free time who achieve this million quickly, they can continue to play and stock pile ISK or they can play with their alternate character (we get 3 character slots).
This way no one will complain about only earning <1,000 SP for 3/4 days and the people who can play very frequently still wont get too far out in front...
Anyone else agree? Maximus Stryker wrote:as a follow up to my previous post, I purpose the following scenario for discussion.
Premise 1, no degeneration, ever, you earn what you earn. Premise 2, there is a hard skill cap (you can debate how frequent this should be) but for the sake of this simulation, lets use 1 week. Premise 3, all new players start with 1,000,000 SP Premise 4, weekly skill cap is 1,000,000 if you are current Premise 5, you do not hit weekly skill cap until you are current
Week 1: Skill Cap at 2,000,000 (1m base plus 1m weekly cap) Week 2: Skill Cap at 3,000,000 Week 3: Skill Cap at 4,000,000 Week 4: Skill Cap at 5,000,000 etc etc
If a player starts playing 4 weeks after the release of the game, s/he still starts with the base of 1 million, and accrues SP at the same exact rate as everyone else, s/he will just not have the weekly limit until s/he reaches the current Skill Cap. And therefore could theoretically get 5,000,000 SP in their first week and then be capped out like all current players from then onward.
Thoughts?

Why not have a daily SP cap limit? That way a person isn't relegated to a few days. Plus it's more frequent so people will still feel like they are gaining more SP's when they play.
Example. The day is Tuesday. Player 1 plays that day he could earn potententialy lets say a million SP's. (500k passive + what ever he earns playing in the game.)
Player 2 doesn't play that day so his passive SP will earn him a max of lets say 500k SP's.
Then it resets for Wednesday.
The numbers might be a bit high for a day but hopefully everyone understands what I am trying to say.
Plus, if it's daily, a player doesn't have to feel so unrewarded (low SP gain per game) so often. And he/she will continue to play and feel like they have achieved something every day. |

One more thing. MAG had a good setup as well. We may want to see if we can incorporate what they did some how. |

yea what mag did was pretty good
for those of you that didnt play MAG, it had a pretty low experience gain rate, but for the first hour of the day you played (happy hour) you had a massive multiplier to how much xp you earned. this gave casual players a reward without actually hurting hardcore players |

A week was chosen so that folks who could only play on weekends wouldn't miss out. Shortening the timeframe would only cause the loss you complain about.
Would you rather hit diminishing returns every day, or at the end of the week? I submit that you would likely miss squeezing every last SP seven times a week whereas you could easily do it once a week. |

Hmmmm.... I do see your point. But, don't you think a daily cap reset would work as well. THe casual players still make their SP and the hardcore games can try to hit that cap everyday. It seems more like a win win with a daily Cap instead of weekly. I have some friends that play pretty regularly and they complain about the last 3 days of the week they aren't getting squat for SP. So, I thought a daily reset would benefit both types of players. |

I guess you will never balance aktive SP gain pretty well without frustration. If SP were meant as a reward hardcore players will always complain if SP gets capped.
It would be easier to have only passive gain but at a higher degree (of course all aktive boosters have to become passive boosters than).
The reward you get through fighting shoulb be ISK (we are all mercs fighting for money) and salvage (of course we than need a market to sell all this stuff). |

No, a daily cap would not work as well for:
1) The casual player who can't play every day. They can't make up for any missed day.
2) You, the hardcore player. The total SP cap is the same if you make it one big number per week or divide up into seven pieces, so you won't gain anything. But now you have to deal with a diminishing return seven times rather than once. If you don't have the time to grind every SP out of the cap every day you lose out. |

An EVE pilot makes about 300K SP a week provided they have a completely balanced attribute spread and around 450K SP if they spec for a certain type of training and add implants. Dust mercs currently can make at least 500K SP a week. Hell, I made that in ONE DAY! I hit the cap of course as I did play for about 20 hours.
Quit your whining and be thankful you are getting as much as you are. CCP I am pretty sure said they wanted Dust SP generation to resemble EVE SP generation and the two are currently pretty close, Dust of course having a higher number.
Dust 514 is a game for the LONG TERM. If you feel you have to be elite in SP right away then I don't think this is the game for you. |

I'm happier with weekly SP caps. I usually can't play during the week, but I can dedicate a Sunday to playing non-stop. It means I can try to get as much of that weeks worth as I can. With daily caps, I'd be sure to hit the cap early, and then still be behind the others. |

I agree skilling is about right, and weekly seems reasonable to me. I have no complaints. I would like to see compensation of some other sort when the SP cap is reached for a week however, I don't like 'grinding' for SP, so I'd like to see a slight increase in ISK for example when SP caps are reached, or for that matter equipment would be fine so we don't ruin EVE's economy via inflation.
Worst case scenario we deflate our own Dust economy by saturating the market with war materials acquired via salvage, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, sustainable proto matches would be cool. |
