I'm sure those of you from way back know where I'm coming from. Remember the x5 dropsuit skills? Felt a lot less demanding than the x8 the skill is now. There may not be empty levels anymore, but without a passive bonus, is there really any reason to have them at x8? Maybe x6? To me, it just feels like too much effort for not enough reward. WOO, I got advanced heavy dropsuits! That guy has prototype ARs, by now, so I guess it's a wash :L. Anyone have feelings on this subject? Any skill at all, not just dropsuits.
Other examples:
The heavy upgrade skills. What the HELL is up with that? The sidearms, I can understand. There are only three, and they aren't too strong, so it makes sense to make the upgrade skills cheap x1s. The light weapons also makes sense, as they are stronger, and there are FAR more of them getting buffed by the one skill, so having them be a 2x skill makes sense... but why are the heavy upgrade skills 3x? The heavy weapons already limit you to the one suit, and the weapons and the suit are all twice as expensive as the light weapons, even the bloody Skillbooks! And there are TWO heavy weapons, one of which gets no real bonuses from the capacity skill, the other which gets practically nerfed with every level of sharpshooter(if I understand the mechanics of sharpshooter correctly).
Swarm Launcher... WHY does it boost the size of the explosions? an extra 5% to 0 is still 0...
Assault Rifle. Both of the assault rifle skills raise damage directly, one by allowing more bullets to hit the target, one by making each bullet hit harder. No other gun has a strict doublebuff like that, so why the AR? If you max it out, there is no reason to ever use anything else because of the shear output(AR proficiency, decent range(light sharpshooter), high reload speed(light reload), and nonexistent recoil(AR handling).
Please comment on these, add your own, hold nothing back. |

I can sort of agree with the heavy skills being intense. You don't want too many people going into a specialization like a heavy, therefore make it a serious decision and make it very rewarding when you do.
I do agree the dropsuit multiplier is kind of crazy. Hopefully, once we get more advanced dropsuit skills, those multipliers will come down and go into more advanced skills instead.
The heavy weapon support skills are kind of ridiculous, too. I know it's the same four skills for all weapon types, but those skills just don't apply enough to actually skill into them unless you've got nothing better to do. And there's always something better to do.
Velvet Overkill wrote:When a missile explodes, it's radius is NOT 0. What he's saying is very valid. It's well-known that you never hit anything with a swarm launcher unless you're locked, or firing point-blank at a vehicle. In other words, you only ever accomplish anything with direct damage. I've never killed anything with the splash damage from a swarm launcher. And what's more, you're not supposed to be using it against infantry anyway. If you're not using it against infantry, what's the point in increased splash radius?
This one always really irked me. |

I know you needed to rant to get that out of your system, I've been there.
Skills do need adjusting, and they will be i'm sure.
But, you must condense your topic to one item at a time or research and bump a post already addressing the issue or your opinions may never be heard. |

Thank you for all the thoughts thus far. Also, to Red...

I'm not so much trying to get a DEV's attention here, more attempting to cause people to thinkabout the current situation, maybe have them make their own more precise threads. I'm no good at singular focus unless I'm too close to the topic, so I'm just trying to provoke thought. |

Hopefully, like EVE, we'll eventually see skill bonuses on the suits. To where the suit itself gives you a bonus based on the skill required.
For instance, perhaps the Armor-based Heavy will give a flat +3% bonus to damage / level of the Heavy skill to Heavy Weapons or the like.
Why they are X8 though... I don't know. They are already quite expensive, ISK-wise, to make it require a hideous amount of SP too is confusing. |
