I haven't seen a ton of people using them, and when I do, they appear to be a medium tier or higher, so the lesser versions might not be great when you start off.
That being said, there is either a bug or a cool effect (sometimes) where if you hit someone either dead on or close enough, it actually forces their character to aim up a ways, meaning you'll have that brief moment where they need to readjust. That's what I've noticed from being hit by them, anyway. |

I'm pretty sure it's intended to knock their aim off when hit. I'll keep in mind that the entry level ones aren't very good |

I can kill people at 50m with it now, once you figure out how the aimming thing works it's pretty easy.
I use the large explosion radius mass driver. |

I LOVE the mass driver, so much fun, just make sure you carry a nanohive and a SMG to finish them off, at low levels you will need 4 good hits to kill people,
it does nice damage to lavs as well.
as much as i love it i dont think i will use it next build, as when FF comes in i will end up killing my own team as much as the enemy |

The mKitten is by far the most fun weapon in the game. Unfortunately you have to deal with small clip size, low ammo, super slow reload and a re-occurring bug that sometimes makes your grenades have no detonation.
But I've learnt to live and deal with these drawbacks and it is by far my weapon of choice!
3 cheers for the only other weapon in the game that can kill snipers at long range! |

it's actually over powered now, but hardly anyone has discovered it yet. once more people start to use it, it'll be the only gun that'll be used. |

I was thinking of running it with my logi to soften up the red dots for my killers, so the nano hive won't be a problem, the smg however will be a problem. |

To start id recommend using the assault variant, which is far better at softening up a group of enemies. If you have green dots with you (because everyone knows all the noobs are marked with blue dots) the assault is the best, partly because of the smokescreen effect of shelling. if you one man stuff like me, id recommend the normal MD, as you can two shot assaults when you get good at aiming. they are only really effective at close range, but they slaughter AR's when you get good and close. i cant use a breach to save my life so i wouldnt recommend them. |

Good thread. And for the record, I agree with Jonny, if you see a merc using a breach mass driver effectively you better hope he is blue and not red.
That said, the mass driver is indeed a Support weapon. It is best employed in support of other trigger pullers. Because it is intentionally designed to suppress enemy fire with aim breaking effects while providing some splash damage and good direct damage.
The rate of fire, difficulty aiming and limited ammo all help to balance the mass driver's area of effect.
It has been my primary weapon 3 builds running. I applaud CCP for designing a weapon system that takes real skill to employ and grows well with the merc who dedicates time and effort to it |

Just got into Mass Driver this build, tried it last build and it was meh.. but this build I do like it. This weeks SP are going to that, to add support to the AR team. |

It's as much fun as two builds ago, because less glitchy. Two bunny kills in first match on MD dedicated build, lotsa of misc battlefield chaos kills. If you ever played it before you will get back to your game quickly and deal death without even thinking about it.
Having said that: not enough ammo! Carry nanohives.
Oh, and for kittens sake: newbs -- train your aim on inanimate targets first to get the feeling. Then go, get some!

I have to disagree. The amount of snipers I have taken down from a very long distance with my Mass Driver gives some real credit that this can also be used as a range weapon. However, this tactic is only effective for those with experience who can judge the trajectory correctly. |

Agreed, to clarify i was just talking about killing normal troops (assault, logi, scout) Snipers and heavies are generally easy kills at range once you get good and it IS an art. The only way to get good is to play and play, and play some more til your sick of MD's, then lay off a day and pick em up again. worked great for me, now i can pull out of a sprint and hit almost anyone in assault rifle range with splash damage, but i almost gave them up because they were too hard to use. |

For your information, and to clear your ignorance, green dots indicate people in your squad while blue dots are people on your team but not in your squad. Green or blue has nothing to do with one's amount of experience in the game.

I've been running MD for the last week now, and I really like it so I'm gonna keep upping my skills in it. It really is a fantastic support weapon, I get a ton of assists and enough kills to go positive.
Does the ammo skill increase the magazine size or just the overall ammo amount? Also is there any point to the sharpshooter skill if I focus on the mass driver? |

if it follows the same pattern as the HMG then no, only the total amo is increased. however you will find yourself burning through your amo fast without a nano hive. It might not hurt to put a lvl or two into Amo cap. |

Someone asked earlier how the sharpshooter skill effects the mass driver. Does anyone know?
I have just started using the mass driver and it is a lot of fun. I'm absolute crap with it, but it is a blast. Part of my problem is I can't buy a close quarters match, where I can step out fire, then duck back behind cover. My experience so far has been mainly yelling at reds to let me enjoy my new toy as I lay bleeding.
If you can kill someone at range, then hats off to you. Between the ranging difficulty and the fact it can take a full second to go to points half across the map, it's a beast to use beyond close range, never mind long.
Also, the MD is the only explosion damage type weapon I know of. This pairs well with a laser. Laser burns off shields, while MD melts armor.
TLDR: MD is fun, but hard. What does sharpshooter do for it? |

It is an okay weapon. It is not great, but it is a replacement since the SMG is no longer useful without a ton of SP put to it. |
