There are many times that I find myself without cover in this game. That's why I wish to have a shield in the game. it could detect a friendly behind it, and then it would activate, but it can be hacked, or it can be destroyed. |

Shields would really help with cover on the very open maps. It could be a device that projects out burning plasma, and is molded into shape by an electric field. Or they can work like regular shields work.
Shields can be equipment: It could be an equipment that you can deploy 4 of during a battle.
You should get war points every time a teammate is shot at while behind the protection of your shield.
These shields should be destructible.
Shields as weapons: Shields could be light weapons that can be held while advancing (or even running) for more mobile defense.
Team members advancing with you, and being protected behind your shield as it takes enemy fire should get you war points. This would help squad cohesion.
Shields should have to reload energy cells.
EDIT: Recently a shield ability on a Halo vid. Tried to google a pic of it for this thread, but also found a deployable shield. Anyway, something like these would be cool: http://faqsmedia.ign.com/faqs/image/article/111/1116164/deployable_cover2.jpg Deployable shield equipment. http://mp1st.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/halo-4-armor-shields.jpg "riot shield" style weapon. |

You mean like a riot shield in CoD?
That's actually a neat idea.
On topic: A large dome shield would be a nice way to create strong defensive positions.
- Large enough to safely cover most Null Cannon emplacements, like the raised mesas on that spire map with some room to spare (meaning it would cover the whole mesa plus perhaps twenty-thirty meters outward).
- Precision Strike or the equivalent amount of damage from player-weapons and vehicles would destroy the shield. Vehicles and people would be able to pass through the dome unimpeded. An orbital bombardment would obliterate the dome and everyone inside.
- It would be an installation that you have to call down, like a turret or supply depot. Perhaps not as big as those, since it's main use is to defend important emplacements on the map, but it shouldn't be a carried piece of equipment.
- Weapons fired from inside the dome would not be able to reach outside of the shield. The point is to force your enemy into a close quarters engagement.
It's just a rough idea, but I figured I might as well share it. |

No more like the assault shield in black ops 2, but it can only be deployed, but the thing is like 10- 15 meters wide, and like 4-5 meters tall. O and the laser rifle can destroy a shield easily. |

I'd like to see something similar to Resistance's Wraith: A heavy machine-gun (H) with a deployable, depletable shield that squad-mates can cover behind (1-2 covering behind it). Shield only covers a limited angel in front of the user, and can be "by-passed" by circling around, or simply beaten down by repeated firing.

I love this idea. And I think it should come in two forms: Deploy-able and hand-held
Deployable: Like you said, a piece of equipment (slot) that can be thrown out to offer various lenghts and densities of cover. As infantry would use it I would say a 6 meter length and 2.5 meter hieght. It would be great to throw down in front of an downed comrade so they could be rezzed in safety. or even dome like rather than just a plate wall. (an armor variant? launched from MCC?)
Hand Held: like you described but I would ask it to take up an equipment slot, like the repair gun or active scanners. Make it a shield with a 2 meter diameter, or varied for race and utility. Why? I see this as being used by Logis alot and by other mercs as well, but the Logi has only one weapon slot and could not defend themselves or attack at any time Unless the repair gun can start damaging enemies. |

I like the idea of deploy-able cover. throw it down for a small amount of protection from enemy fire. It would make logi's even more loved. It would need to have low health, cover a very small area, and prevent damage from both sides from going through it. It could work like a standard shield, being recharged after a delay. A bubble would make the most sense, 2 meters at most in diameter, maybe better at 1 meter (full cover for 1 if you duck). I would prefer a wall square shaped 1.5 by 1.5 meters in diameter, but I"m not sure how well it could be explained. The shield will not impeded movement, not stop a grenade (much like mcc barrier) . 1 well placed grenade would kill it, but it would prevent 1 sniper shot from getting through (or at least reduce the chance of death).
that's just my $.02 on the idea. |

As nobody answered my question on shield amplifiers in the genera discussion section I will ask it here as it is about shields.
A shield amplifier recudes damage of the shield right? So if I use a shield amplifier that recudes damage by 20% and my LAV for example is about to get hit by 60 hitpoints of damage, the shield amplifier will recude the damage by 12 hitpoints?
This sounds like an easy question but I want a confrimation on this please, a yes or no is perfectly fine, or an explenation aswell if you want to write one ;) |

Fine and dandy for Caldari tech. but what about other races?
Amarr: Active-laser barrier. A holographic targeting "wall" that locks incoming attacks for a high-power variable laser to defeat near-instantaneously. Other lasers are stopped using the principle of wave interference. Most damage types are halted, but KN munitions can still work to a degree after the laser melts them.
Gallente: Nanite shield. An evolution of the shield, this design uses a thinner (read: cheaper) plasma barrier, used only to hold nanobots, the same kind as found in starship armor repairers. Those nanites do the exact same job, blocking most attacks, but being put into disarray by the concussive force of an Exp weapon.
Minmatar: Instant-hardening foam Works exactly as described in EVElopedia, applied to deployable cover. The foam works wonders against most damage types, but is vaporized more quickly by munitions with a Therm component. |

Are you kidding? Holographic? wave interference? hello? Sounds like fuzzy Gallente Tech. This is Amarr! An amarr shield has to be a big heavy wall of golden steel, drastically reducing your movementspeed and your stamina but extremely cool looking with glyphs all over the thing - also since it's the only one with big disadvantages it has to block almost all attacks.

I'm fine with the rest of the suggentions though Good point - In fact, that sounds like a clever way to give the Heavy suit a squad support fitting - with the superpowered servos in that suit, it shouldn't be hard to drop your heavy weapon so you could carry a giant WALL to shield your green-tagged buddies.
However, for "deployment" cover that you throw down to help yourself, I stick by my holo-barrier for 3 reasons:
>Above all, balance. Notice how I made sure each racial version was weak to a different damage type. Four races, four types. >As you can imagine, the holo-barrier is very compact before you activate it. This would allow Scout suits to carry one so they can buy some time to escape a failed ambush. >Lastly, the Amarr are masters of lasers, and my barrier idea assumed that they know how to use it for more than just burning people with divine light. |

The armor ones could be manufactured on the spot and maintained by a swarm of nanites deployed from some kind of equipment. |

It was nice to see this thread reborn again.
To add to it I would like to see something that could be dropped by a vehicle in the same manner. An overhead dropship coming in to eject a shield cover for an advance. Or an LAV for a protection for a retreat (probably more HAV's). It could be really cool. I have always enjoyed the tactics associated with neutral area controlling devices rather than just weapons to damage one object or another.
don't get me wrong, i love me a killen, but the smarter part of me loves to build a plan to better corner an enemy, or defend an area, take an objective, and being able to do that without just relying on more manpower is satisfying. |

First off I find this topic a little funny considering the dropsuits already have shields and now we are asking for more shields...Secondly I think its actually a pretty cool idea! The shields shoould either be heavy and cause a slower movement if carried and made of an actual alloy or if made from plasma or lasers and whatever alse you guys said then they should require a tremendous amount of power to deploy that way they can only be deployed for so long. If they are not carried but are dropped then they need to have limitations and should not be able to be shot out of or into. Possibly even damage enemy players if they touch them. I could imagine a droplink with a shield over it to prevent spawn camping...
