How is this possible if we have body shields and armor? I would think that shielding should be pretty solid all over, and after shields get depleted then you might be more vulnerable to your head.
I've killed quite a few with this (which works out in my favor) but tbh I kinda wish it didn't kill people so quickly even with basic Militia weapons. What good is high shields and armor then? |

Headshots doing extra damage doesn't mean that having higher hitpoints is no longer worthwhile.

In scientific terms, its probably harder to shield the head because its smaller, thus having less space to disperse the inertia of a bullet over the electromagnetic shielding. However, higher shield amount (which represents more energy used as electromagnetic shielding) would have more energy, thus being able to displace more inertia efficiently. However, energy weapons (rather than projectile weapons, which have mass to disperse over the shields) tend to disrupt shielding more efficiently, and thus have a bonus against it.
In layman's terms, although you get more damage on the head, obviously more shielding allows for more shots tanked.
Now, for armor. It takes less energy to lug around armor. It's just pure metal after all. Its made to disperse inertia, but without the efficiency of shields. Thus, projectile weapons are more efficient, because they have penetration power (mass and acceleration) and can punch through armor. Energy weapons, such as lasers, take more time to cut through armor.
Finally, there are railguns and blasters, which are hybridized against both HP types. Railguns and blasters shoot projectiles using electromagnetic propulsion, thus making them able to cut through both armor and shields.

It doesn't take skill to get headshot kills, just random luck and aiming for the head. But this also doesn't make any sense in a futuristic game with full head-to-toe shielding. I am a bit curious what CCP's thoughts are on this. |

Yeah, it can all be explained away with imaginary tech, but this aspect is probably the closest I see to COD, which in COD it works, but for some reason in Dust it just seems a bit odd to me. I would've thought that Dust should play a bit more like Halo (not the run 'n gun part but the shielding and non-headshot capable AR/SMG/Pistols. |

CCP added vital points to vehicles where armor & shielding provides less protection, I'd imagine that the shields are weaker at your head as well. |

lolwut? in low health games it doesnt take skill cuz spray and u get a luck hit but in high health games u need to keep ur aim on someones head to consistently do more dmg which means it takes more skill unless ur just standing still like a bullet sponge |

I'm not following you. It doesn't take skill to get a headshot. Just aim and fire, it randomly produces headhots. Haven't you hit someone at full health/shields from across the map using your AR and they instantly die? This is not skill. |

No more than aiming for the chest, then the head. Or the ass...
But as to the original posters comments, the shield should negate the headshot effect. If I were designing a weightless barrier of force to protect a soldier, I would ensure the head was well protected. Oh, and the *********. |

Yeah, it really isn't hard to get a headshot in this game. I think it would be great to have a hybrid system, with shields being normal damage, and then when you carve the shields down the headshots come into play. |

Headshots tend to be quite lethal in more than ~9/10 cases. I think that justifies increased damage with semirealistical behaviour. |

Weak spot may not always be the head.
The heavy has a fusion reactor on it's back, this needs cooling so can be armoured as completely as head. The scouts seem to have much of the body only protected by soft armor, but head has a substantial helmet, so it looks to be very vulnerable to body shots. The assault and logi have little lower torso protection, and the assault's rib-cage seems like a weak point if shoot from sides.
So, we could have various weak spots around suits. If they do this we should have a option in 3d viewer to highlight them, other wise we will have trouble guessing where they are. |
