It is - I tried the Tennis game in it at GamesCon (before trying Dust there), and it was pretty underwhelming . Rest of the games also looked rather boring/silly compared to #1. (Tabel-tennis and Frisbee are very life-like in the controls - Tennis was just "wave-stick-at-right-time", though randomly hitting kids at GamesCon was fun)

My older girl got it for her 3rd birthday - now she plays the Eyepet&Friends (v2) with her little-sister, who is currently 3. If your kid understands english (My older one is just starting to), it will be fairly engaging, with some dude showing up and explaining things - but expect that you need to play it WITH her ... and you'll need space in front of the telly (floor/table) with the camera down low (not on top of the tv) and decent lighting, preferably from the front.
Small general note on the move: You can use an extension-cord (regular USB type) with the PS Eye, but be sure it is properly powered, or it'll fail randomly. I've gotten mine set up with a (non-spec) 12m extension, since the PS3 isn't located in the living-room, and had to run it through a 3rd party charger/hub-dock thing to ensure it was properly powered and signal got regenerated.

I love using the Move/Sharpshooter combination, and the sharpshooter+Dust is the only reason i purchased a PS3 in the first place, and i don't regret it.
BUT,
if all you care about is racking up kills, my feeling is that the controller is much better and accurate to use atm in Dust.
I use the sharpshooter because for me it's more FUN than using a controller [or KBM], no other reason.
The current build leaves a lot of room for improvement for Sharpshooter+Dust. Esp. in the area of button mapping [but that will change when user mappable buttons come in]. IMO the problems with using a Sharpshooter are not the peripheral, but on CCP's coding for it. For example, the implementation of the sharpshooter with killzone3 seems to be perfect, but the Dust implementation is less refined.
If you go out and get a sharpshooter, i have a setting for you to try out right away: - There is a way [at least for me] to tune your settings so that you do not overshoot your target when you turn, then have to go back and aim. 1) Go into your controller settings, change the deadzone box to be the smallest size possible in both directions. 2) change the sensitivity to %80 - By doing that, whenever i pick up a target on the side of my screen, i can naturally follow it in to the center of my aim without overshooting. At least it works for me, your results may vary:)
Whichever controller you choose, just have fun! |

This sounds like it could be a whole lot of fun!
Thanks for the tips chaps.
My TV is about 2m from the PS3, so hopefully that shouldn't be an issue, though I have a decent Maplin store around the corner, incase I need more stuff.

I reckon you'll need a usb extension, the lead with the eye is not over long, dont forget the eye should be at the level that you intend to play with the gun |

holy crap............. the gun is NOT easy.
Gonna put some time in to practice, or at least try and put some time in. But it is so hard, I can't see myself moving away from the mouse and keyboard.
Only issue with those is the vertical scrolling is way off.
For those that suggested it, my little boy just loves the EyePet........... can't get him off of it.

Just wondering about the above. How does one target with it etc etc?

Move implementation is a big disappointment right now......
I used move on MAG with much better success than using DS3 but not so on Dust. CCP have not implemented it well.
Hopefully its better when launched.

Whenever you start shooting you hit everything but your intended target. It is VERY JUMPY. If that is not fixed PS move will sit collecting dust, pun intended. |

Absolutely standard Jax, it will take you hours and hours to get used to it, and you are practising with an imperfectly implemented system. If you want to see how it's really done and what it can do for your gameplay, get KZ3 and practice with that |

As a sharpshooter user
You want to make sure the camera is level and true..... you are going to need a bubble level to make sure it is sitting right where you have it. This includes the horizontal and vertical for the camera.
Go grab yourself some blue- non stick painters tape and use it to protect the surface you are working on. Then you want to lock the eye camera to one specific spot, the usb cable tends to nudge the camera if you have it just sitting somewhere, since for me it was always behind the ps3 running the usb wire kept knocking the camera out of alignment.
Okay from the XMB you want to turn off the magnetic sensor for the move from inside the ps3, it should become less jumpy.
Button Mapping is probably not going to happen unless unlike INSOMNIAC games who had it for the BETA and then found out, or that CCP is able to get SONY to alter the Terms of Use for the device which says button mapping is a no-go in order to use the move device and the sharpshooter in their game. Watch the OLD iWaggle video about Resistance 3 and how the feature was removed.
Next thing you want to do is make sure that the sharpshooter is held level. You are going to want to put some bubble levels on it, X and Y axis on the plastic gun. Then you are going to want to take some yellow self stick sticky pads with bulls eyes and mark off your screen. Center, for left right top bottom, I use a laser pointer (very low powered to not damage the TV) and mount it on the sharpshooter and then use it to make sure you CALIBRATE it the same way all the time. You can then use more sticky pad pieces of paper to mark off where the bounding boxes are on the screen.
Standing or sitting?
The only major issue with dust and the move I have experienced with regret and annoyance is the fact that you can only access the Squad Leader menu by hitting the down button, there is no way to hot set the SL orders....like DS3 users can by holding the R2 and tapping the R3.
Only other thing I can think of is until you are used to using the sharpshooter that you put a tactile dot onto the square or triangle button until you grow accustomed to hitting them correctly. The fire selector doesn't seem to work, I don't really hit the reload button on the bottom and the pump action just pulls the trigger on the move. |
