I like to thank CCP for giving us these seemingly overpowered 'officer' weapons. Of course, since they are only obtainable via salvage and the salvage is chance based with very little likelihood of finding the same officer weapon again for a very long time even after multiple matches in a single hour, I have to say that this is well balanced as well.
Today I played at least 6 matches with 4 matches being accompanied by my specialist sniper rifle (officer), I was able to go 8/0 no problem on several occasions even during an ambush map with only a basic damage mod. Surprisingly I didn't die as often as I expected from the ambush maps. I guess it has more to do with the fact that I know which areas to avoid when trying to get out of the compound and into the safety of the hills.
The officer sniper I used inflicts 203 EHP with a rate of fire of 50 shots per minutes. As I said, I only have a basic damage mod but I am getting close to being able to use the enhanced variants.
My brother is an AV player and notices that the officer HMG is so beefy in damage that just tapping the trigger is an near-instant kill button. Of course, he avoids using that fit as well given that he has limited stock and he hasn't been able to find any replacements in the salvage. The best part... they are not AUR weapons. |

Officer weapons are stupidly overpowered, but as you said because they're found only in random drops, it's balanced. And yes there is a differentiation between Common, Uncommon, and Rare gear. Basically the stuff you buy in the stores and whatnot is going to be Common gear, the stuff you find randomly is Uncommon...its better in most cases and has similar naming convention to Common gear. Rare gear, or Officer gear uses the naming convention NAME's WEAPON TYPE. It's going to have very high skill requirements (Usually Operation V and then some level of Proficiency) and have stats beyond that of Prototype Gear. Officer gear is basically as good as it gets (Unless they get into Deadspace gear which could potentially be better).
Like I said, freakishly powerful but since you can only get it via rare drops...I think its a good system |

So named only. Got it.
But yeah, I like to see those babies used against the AUR folks. |

Yeah, they're far superior to any gear available in the game, much like it is in EVE. |

If you think the Uncommon gear is good, you should try Officer. It's like cutting through butter, and you can instantly get super high kill streaks. |

I definitely like this too, especially if they require heavy investments.
Both SR skills +5 would be awesome.
I have some Thale's SRs but haven't broken into them yet as Ishokune seems to destroy most things fairly easily and almost every heavy in one headshot. |

Not every none heavy, max scout hit points are about 900, but that is a silly max skill proto-double tank scout that would be less effective then more standard fit. I also thought of trying a double complex plate type 2 scout that would have over 400 armor hp, don't have skills to test fit yet. |

Also, be careful referring to officer gear as "named". In EVE "named gear" is a term for meta 2-4 gear. |

Yes indeed. The Thales rifles also have an amazing range and mag on scope. I have gotten a few different officer drops, but rarely on the character that uses the weapon type. The drawback is that the magnification is so high, it is difficult to quick scope on folks when you get dropped randomly on the ground. The upside is that when you get to a decent perch, you can see the entire battlefield, targets are much bigger at the same range as my second favorite (Ishukone). There are maps that I bring this fit out on, those maps have my sniper out of range of other snipers, but can still hit red suits at two or more objectives. I'm not sure it is needed, but still I fit a complex damage mod. In any case, with the officer rifle.. if I hit, you be dead, including proto fit heavies.
Yes I agree that officer mods are stupidly overpowered. What's new? They're also stupidly rare and eventually your officer fit kill run will end.
I also have officer SMGs, ARs, and I think maybe an officer Swarm launcher. Of course not on the characters that use these weapons. I agree with others that the balance seems fine on drops. I'm glad i got that drop, I'm going to milk it like a cow since I did, but the run will end as the tools are super rare. It will end, too, because the kill you just made with an officer weapon is broadcast to all. One red made a kill with a militia weapon, another with an officer fit. Who are you going after??
