The forge gun range might be a little too long range and the swarms could have their damage reduced slightly. Other than that ive been doing fine in a well fit myron. Last game my gunners went 24-0 and 17-0. We all got 170,000+ sp and about 300,000 isk Add me, I want to see how you did that. I made it through 12 minutes of a match before the forge guns got me, and that's the best i've done. I'm gonna assume that game was an anomaly and nobody got AV out for you. I agree the forge gun range is too long again, and I'm a forge gunner. The forge gun is supposed to be anti-tank and the swarms should be anti-air. I think thats the balance CCP needs to go for. Limit the forge gun range again, give dropships Chaff (which I hear they are going to do), and for the love of god give dropships sp/isk for spawns and pickups. Before the buff I could actually make a little money flying, now I've gotta ground pound for 3-4 games to make enough to fly for half of a game. I realize this is only temporary until the next build, but aside from actually enjoying flying there's no point in being a dropship pilot. I always fly with the same gunners and they have mics. Good communication is a must. If we see 1-2 different swarm launchers ewe fly straight to them and my gunners concentrate their fire. More than that and we run away, flying as fast as i can and as low tote ground as i can. I dont use any armor repair modules because both gunners always use repair tools. The key to surviving a team full of swarm players is to go straight at them. Demoralize them enough by killing them everytime they fire and they will spend the rest of the match either hiding or dying. Forge guns are a different problem, but as long as you and your gunners stay aware you should be able to avoid them.
Which turrets do you use? I started a thread the other day and got mixed results.
Edit: The problem I'm running into now is that the swarms slow me down enough for the forge guns to take me out. Also if i fly too low for the cover AV grenades have been a pain in the ass |

Dropships (notice they aren't called gunships) are fine- I'm using them.
GUNNERS on the other hand (on the extremely rare occasions that they actually get in the ship), are idiots. |

Right now swarms are overpowered for a couple of reasons. The biggest isn't damage. Its range and rate of fire. BF3 had the same problem early on; Man portable AA effectively denied the whole airspace above a map. The damage is fine; its the ability for multiple guys scattered across a map to endlessly dump swarms unless i'm in low earth orbit.
It seems like every nerf cycle comes and goes without key questions about the items being asked. What is the expected role for dropships (it seems to be transport/ close air support but its hard to know as so little of the game is implemented), how are they expected top contribute to team objectives and how is the user rewarded for this (dropships supersuck for this right now. 750k on the line so I can earn maybe 200 warpoints before i get militia swarmed to death.) and lastly how is the skill to payout balanced (4mil in nothing but DS skills so i can call in a ship that i can't earn any points with by myself short of landing on people....yeah). Right now its clear Dropships are far too incomplete in implemetation at this point. |

they should have made the dropships better to counter the tanks getting a direct hit on a person is hard but not on a tank change the dropships turrets to higher damage but leave the splash damage after losing a few 2 mill isk tanks people will be more sensible about when they get them out |

Pre-vehicle health nerf/AV buff dropships did just fine vs HAVs. We'd do even better against them now if not for the masses of swarms on every map. If people fielded them this often back when HAVs were OP they never would've seemed as powerful as they did.
That's the real danger now for dropships, btw. It's not the loss of health, I rarely got hit by swarms anyway, it's the half-dozen sets of missiles coming from every end of the map! This is why a lot of dropship pilots are trying to focus on ground-level flight now. |

Have you tried shield regenerators as a way of passive shield tanking? I've got 2 of them and they do ok, I may have to try the active boosters though... |

I really think the constant stealing and crashing of dropships needs to be addressed in one day i had 5 dropships stolen and destroyed within seconds this is a major problem for dropships with spawn points on them i think the best way to prevent this is only the owner of the dropship lav hav can drive or pilot it anyone else team mate or enemy must hack the dropship etc before being able to jump in the pilot seat driving seat . |
