A three shot sniper rifle sucks the constante reloading is a pain when your aiming at running targets it gives the other guys a bigger advantage finding that most assualt classes are able to kill me faster then i can kill them. |

Max weaponry, get a tier one charge rifle, put two light damage mods in your high slot and you will kill everyone but a heavy in one shot.
The cost of this knowledge is that you don't shoot me on the field. |

Also, you could change your sidearm to a submachine gun. I found that have that instead of a handgun makes a big difference in close combat. |

If you skill your sniper skills, fit your dropsuit properly, and choose your position wisely, sniping can be extremely deadly. I have personally gone 15/0 as a sniper.
Tank shield strength, and vehicle controls are serious problem though.
Not to mention the constant game freeze and crashes.
Lots of serious problems with this game, but sniping isn't one of them. |

Not seeing a lot of SR threads so I'll opine here. First, to answer your questions. Charge rifle is best for its beastly damage and I do believe that it's a bit more stable when scoping in compared to all others. This one does one shot most targets and is cheap! Get weaponry up to use damage modules with this rifle. Now off topic: SR are pretty bad in this game. The only viable ones force to play at the edge of the map, sitting on some ridge trying to kill ppl half across map. Now I know a lot of ppl will say 'wow but that's so realistic, that's what sniper is supposed to be doing' In reality however, this kills game play making it boring. No gun play is involved with SR as is - you gotta be crouching down for about 1.5 sec to make it stable at aiming and them mostly preying off static targets is just pathetic - no skill is involved in SR (human skill, not SP investment) at all in this game. And if you suggest that with practice you can kill moving targets - hurray; yes this is fairly possible, yet still compares poorly to other FPS where SR Gun play is fun and balanced (e.g. MAG, where you could master SR and take pride in your skills). Lastly, the tactical variants of SR are just dumb. Low ammo, low damage and wobbly as hell when scoped down - the worst of all worlds. In description it credits them with 'good zoom fidelity' or something to that effect, that prompts you to believe that there is less scope sway with them, making them viable at intermediate range (something that SR curretly lack in the game) but this does not translate into actual gameplay (i.e. the description is a lie/misleading). |

Have you been leveling up your skills?
With a militia sniper rifle, Weaponry+5, both SR skills +5, and working on the Light Weapon skills (all +3 at least) there are very few people outside of vehicles that I cannot one shot.
The wobble is almost nonexistant, and with all of this damage bonus I can very easily choose whatever sniper rifle (regardless of range, damage, fire rate, clip size, ammo capacity) and my skills give bonuses to everything. In this case a tactical rifle gives me the speed to keep shooting when needed. I can quickly aim while standing.
The investment matters. |

I've never have a problem with it. I usually reload after each shot. I use the charge sniper rifle though.
You only have to worry once they get inside your radar radius. After they are halfway into your radar radius you need to start moving.
Other then that I only hope they think I'm a crappy shot and keep running forward at me... |

I think sniper rifles and their game mechanics are pretty good the way they are. The only thing I think needs some changing is that the rifle that causes the most damage is available at Level 1. I like the Charge Sniper Rifle, but having access to the strongest rifle right away just seems off. |

It's not so much the STRONGEST as the highest alpha... that said, there are no higher tier permutations of it, and the fact that it oneshots everything without even trying to aim for sweetspots is irritable to the nth degree. Also, yes ARs are far too accurate compared to the effective range of the sniper scopes, so either boost the scopes or make the AR a tad less accurate/lower its effective range/kitten ARs. |

To comment on my curretn skills: they are pretty decent: weaponry 5, SR 5, SR specialization 4, Light weap - i am not sure. I do wear an ehanced dmg amplifier in high slot. Now i dont have much experience with militia SR and there are definitely good SRs out there that can one shot the majority of targets - Charge really stands out and shines; but what I want to discuss is specifically tactical SR's. Their name suggests that they are intemediate, as opposed to long, distance weapons and are supposed to be used in the field (for example providing fire cover fire for your squad) as opposed to distance sniping for targets of opportunity as is the case with the higher damage variants of the SR. In reality, however, the low damage, small clip, and horrendous scope sway (while actively moveing, of course - not talking about crouching and staying static ot take a shot) effectively preclude this SR from being used. And as a whole, a sniper is left with only one choice - grab a high damage rifle and run to some rock on the edge of map - forget about tactical sniping and actively participating in taking objectives. That's why I think sniping is limited in Dust and not as much fun as it is in other games (old MAG fan here). |

I'm going to put my two ISK in this conversation. First of all I'd like to say that the charged sniper rifle is the most over hyped and most useless weapon in the whole sniper rifle arsenal. Sure it does major alpha damage but outside of that it has literally nothing going for it compared To others. The charge time is hideous and the extra damage isn't really worth it. Only the fact it's cheap and has low CPU and PG makes it worth while.
The tactical variants do suffer from limited magazine count but overall if your aim is good you can take out a Prototype heavy within a few seconds. He won't even know what hit him... I liked the tactical but the low magazine count really hurts its overall effectiveness. The fact that you can't miss without punishing yourself hurts it bad.
The regular sniper rifles are beastly. Especially the later variants. Enough damage to drop just about any suit with the ability to fire 5 rounds in a short period makes it very deadly. This allows you no to only score kills but you also can soften up whole groups of enemies for your allies to kill. You can kill any scouts in one hit and fire faster at enemy snipers without losing the ability have more follow up shots .
Seriously sniping is one of the most clone effective ways to commit to a match. Just don't forget to actually move from your perch and remember having a mouse helps a lot for those 500m plus shots. |
