Some players are bragging about having private talks with dev(s) about game mechanics and even going so far as to brag about being able to influence these on an IRC channel.
one, I don't think using IRC for something that influences everybody is appropriate, and CCP really should put an end to it, and while doing so, release all chatlogs from sessions between devs and players. These forums are the official channel for communicating, and by allowing opinionated, and severely biased pricks to influence devs without input from players with opposing views is dangerous. |

You are spouting nonsense. Should we ban grabbing lunch with the boss at work next? The amount of communication is about as influential as saying hi to a Dev at fanfest. People who get their ideas out there are networking, not participating in some secret club. |

I do believe you're mistaking your role as a beta tester with that of the Dust Senior Designer. CCP also have in-house meetings about the game and I'm sure they get advice and ideas from spouces and family. Should those be taboo? By all means, send CCP employees for jail. How dare they communicate with others who are not the forums.
And on another note, you are most welcome to join us on IRC. We mostly harrass each other and make up imaginary RP crap. We also gossip and call each other gay. |

We do none of the sort there.. it is strictly business ALL the time. We sit around and talk the CCP all day and night
really, they release information at Gaming Events, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Gaming Websites, Blogs, Forums, Podcasts.... So why is IRC so bad? Again, anyone is welcome to join. It's just another way to get feedback. it's not like this is 1492 or something.... |

This is essentially incorrect, but since Noc hangs out in IRC all day I suppose that's to be expected. Saying "hi" to a developer at Fanfest isn't equivalent to directly communicating issues about balance to developers all day.
The IRC channel at the very least should be set up by CCP, not by community members, and direct chat logs should be transcribed to the forums at least as a downloadable resource. The inherent bias in the current system is causing us headaches to this day. |

The IRC channel is a public channel where everyone can join, as pointed out in this post https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=22699&find=unread . Some memebers of CCP are in this channel but nothing secret or special takes place in it and if something official is said, there is always a post in the forum that documents it. I'm in that channel as well and I can assure you the following things: -There is no such a thing like IRC-users or not-IRC-users for CCP. We don't value opinions in different ways. -CCP has a really marginal presence in the channel. If something is posted, you'll find it in the weekly update. - The main channels are the forum and the we everything that is important is always reported there. -The channel trend is more or less a "chat with friends". People talk about DUST 514, EVE but also about everything else. -The chat is public and everyone is more than welcome to join. |

Yet the few dev "friends" seem to be passing on a lot of information, and Iron even have gone as far as boasting that he convinced a dev about some mechanics at some point. CmdrWang requested +v. He told you your questions were rude twice before you were muted temporarily. Stop blaming Grid and the IRC. I am just stunned that known anti-vehicle players repeatedly are able to announce additional tank hypernerfs without anything being said on the forums, without tank users being able to tell CCP and Devs that further Nerfs are at least to my knowledge unneeded. Yet they happen, and I dread what the "coming heavy handed tank nerf" Iron is rambling about this time are all about. |

Whats wrong if people use IRC to give the devs their opinions and feedback. Just like these forums irc is an important component in addressing any issues with the game; its a public, easy, and direct way of communication and it allows people to direct some of the devs to questions and issues posted on the forums as well. Even if Iron was boasting about how he convinced a dev to tweak curtain mechanics, the devs probably wouldn't have done it unless he made a good point, I don't see anything wrong with that. Why don't you go on and irc and chat with the devs if your really this pissed about it. |

Would you like to see a log of everything spoken amongst the devs as well. The fact of the matter is everything official will be stated publicly just because things are being discussed doesn't mean that they will happen. Go on IRC and keep record of everything that is said and post it if you'd like, you have the option to do that. |

There are people on irc from all different roles including some of the top tank drivers. I really find it hard to believe that someone is complaining about improved communication. It's like someone who is using letter writing complaining about someone using a telephone.
I know a lot of the IRC guys have actually gone out of there way to get the devs to participate more on the forums. IRC is open to all players and I'm sure the guys would love to discuss issues with you. |

I have never convinced them of anything. Trust me if I was doing such thing far less of you would be driving tanks now and DS controls be reverted. I also don't brag about convincing devs of anything I just go around an mediate, IE gather questions to ask developers the next time they show up for questioning.
Also I was specifically instructed not to quote several lines in my last transcription, thus I have been censored a bit and demanding a logs of some of these sessions is rather quite inappropriate.
I just post what I hear and ask when allowed to, I try not to waste questions and tailor the questions on the queue to each developer right now I would do alot to get another session with CCP Wolfman but cant.
The most amount of influence an IRCer has is pointing out a bug and the exact replication steps as the dev is on the client at the same time.
As for you tank whiners/defenders. None of you have gotten to the same level of complaints and depth the IRC channel has torn it apart, the closest example I saw today was a math post that was LEAGUES off from acutal paper stats. |

I would, if I had them, which even an idiot could be able to guess, so that you don't only suggest you are either a troll, or blatantly dishonest.
I mean get started there will be more in the future lol. I realize you don't have the older ones but nothing anyone can do about that.
unless you can get someone else who has them to release them |

Imagine sending an e-mail to support@ccp, discussing a problem and suggesting potential fix. That's off-forum heresy!
Imagine sending a DM via twitter toa dev . Off-forum heresy!
Imagine owning/running a fansite and occasionally getting an opportunity to talk with the devs. Off-forum heresy once more!
Imagine going to E3, or Gamescon, or Fanfest and actually talking to a developer - privately - about DUST. The highest form of heresy, treachery, and sedition again this official forum!
--
As has been said. The IRC room a public channel. Join whenever you want, just don't act like an idiot whilst in someone else's house.
As has been said. It's just chat. Just like might happen in any of the above instances. Devs aren't giving out Jovian dropsuits, they aren't giving away advice for figuring out the most OP play style, and they aren't giving anything major away. And anything minor that they give away ends up here anyway within a couple of days. They aren't giving out early passes to the next build, super-weapons, or special "dev-sauce". None of it is official, and even what people in IRC think they know could change before the next build. So...what?
There was a time disparity that was absolutely meaningless regarding knowledge of something that may or may not come to fruition, so IRC must be shut down?
The devs have short infrequent casual conversations with players somewhere other than the forums, so IRC must be shut down? |

I find it fairly interesting that as soon as a Dev states he'll keep an eye on a thread, locking it if it starts flaming, a little group of haters start doing just that, with what I can only see as being an attempt at getting a thread closed they happen to disagree with.
Unicorn, if you get this far, please do not lock it over these minor members, but instead just lock them for disrupting a thread. |

It's been 17 years since I last used IRC, I guess I'm a little rusty.
You also need to replace password with your own unique password. Make sure you are entering it in the status window as well.
Edit:
I think I used the flash client to register myself. |

This is not what I said. Was it?
A support issue is just that, if you started sending suggesting grievances about balance to them, I'm fairly certain they'll point you to the forum. |

This is, indeed, all a big conspiracy. We're talking about it on irc while playing the final release build on the secret "Hedgehog" server...

nope, use this format
/ns register 123456 [email protected]
The golden rule is "remove the msg bit from every command :p "
ps:sorry I edited your post by mistake, instead of quoting it. Should be fine now. |

And yet, if you'd been on IRC, you'd know that a lot of the talk on there centers around fixing bugs and how that is progressing. So...once again, not really an issue. |

I did that as well, with the same result. I'm using the flash client.
Should ns is to be replaced by my nickname?
Edit. Got it by following the Dev suggestion. |

Just going to add in here, if for some reason /ns command or /cs command doesn't work, use the full names (nickserv and chanserv) instead. I'll also go update the sticky with this info. |
