Some players are bragging about having private talks with dev(s) about game mechanics and even going so far as to brag about being able to influence these on an IRC channel.
one, I don't think using IRC for something that influences everybody is appropriate, and CCP really should put an end to it, and while doing so, release all chatlogs from sessions between devs and players. These forums are the official channel for communicating, and by allowing opinionated, and severely biased pricks to influence devs without input from players with opposing views is dangerous. |

Yet the few dev "friends" seem to be passing on a lot of information, and Iron even have gone as far as boasting that he convinced a dev about some mechanics at some point. It may have been one of the other IRC users and I don't recall the details, but I do recall it came to pass, at the detriment of Tank drivers yet again. |

The amount of communication is about as influential as saying hi to a Dev at fanfest. People who get their ideas out there are networking, not participating in some secret club. This is essentially incorrect, but since Noc hangs out in IRC all day I suppose that's to be expected. Saying "hi" to a developer at Fanfest isn't equivalent to directly communicating issues about balance to developers all day. The IRC channel at the very least should be set up by CCP, not by community members, and direct chat logs should be transcribed to the forums at least as a downloadable resource. The inherent bias in the current system is causing us headaches to this day. I don't use Twitter or facebook and accept I don't hear the things said there first. What makes this so different? Zuck is far less likable than Grid.
But the Twits and Facepalms are at least more or less official, and as far as I know not used for actual discussions. |

GM Unicorn wrote:The IRC channel is a public channel where everyone can join, as pointed out in this post https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=22699&find=unread . Some memebers of CCP are in this channel but nothing secret or special takes place in it and if something official is said, there is always a post in the forum that documents it. I'm in that channel as well and I can assure you the following things: -There is no such a thing like IRC-users or not-IRC-users for CCP. We don't value opinions in different ways. -CCP has a really marginal presence in the channel. If something is posted, you'll find it in the weekly update. - The main channels are the forum and the we everything that is important is always reported there. -The channel trend is more or less a "chat with friends". People talk about DUST 514, EVE but also about everything else. -The chat is public and everyone is more than welcome to join.
I am just stunned that known anti-vehicle players repeatedly are able to announce additional tank hypernerfs without anything being said on the forums, without tank users being able to tell CCP and Devs that further Nerfs are at least to my knowledge unneeded. Yet they happen, and I dread what the "coming heavy handed tank nerf" Iron is rambling about this time are all about. |

If it is official, and not everybody are able to attend these sessions due to timezones, work etc. please consider releasing the logs. If it is "official" there really is nothing to hide, right? |

Would you like to see a log of everything spoken amongst the devs as well. The fact of the matter is everything official will be stated publicly just because things are being discussed doesn't mean that they will happen. Go on IRC and keep record of everything that is said and post it if you'd like, you have the option to do that.
Of course not. I think I've used the terms "dev and player" a few times trying to clarify THAT aspect. |

yes, just nothing you want to hear it seems. That doesn't invalidate my opinions. |

When the IRC guide says I have to type /msg ns register password email address
I assume the only thing I want to change in that line is the "email address" to my own
Sadly it keeps coming back with *** ns: No such nick/channel |

I would, if I had them, which even an idiot could be able to guess, so that you don't only suggest you are either a troll, or blatantly dishonest. |

Thanks Noc. This is where I'd say something appropriate, but I doubt the Devs would like me to. |

I find it fairly interesting that as soon as a Dev states he'll keep an eye on a thread, locking it if it starts flaming, a little group of haters start doing just that, with what I can only see as being an attempt at getting a thread closed they happen to disagree with.
Unicorn, if you get this far, please do not lock it over these minor members, but instead just lock them for disrupting a thread. |

This is not what I said. Was it?
A support issue is just that, if you started sending suggesting grievances about balance to them, I'm fairly certain they'll point you to the forum. |

It's been 17 years since I last used IRC, I guess I'm a little rusty. You also need to replace password with your own unique password. Make sure you are entering it in the status window as well. Edit: I think I used the flash client to register myself.
I did that as well, with the same result. I'm using the flash client.
Should ns is to be replaced by my nickname?
Edit. Got it by following the Dev suggestion. |

I should be called Wesley...
I play a lot of different thinks while skilling up for decent tank gear. "Dewie Cheeham Snipes Noc Tempre" will be a welcome sight. |
