I'll try to make this as short and to the point as possible:
-Replace Up on the D-pad with a push to talk/ toggle to talk button with the ability to broadcast to the team (no more need to switch back and forth to team and squad chat)
-Friendly Proxy Chat (you can hear friendlies nearby and in vehicles with you automatically)
OTHER OPTIONS: -Limit team broadcast to Squad leaders and make it where only the squad leaders hear each other when the up on the D-pad is used
Currently the two channel system just ends up with most people in squad chat and a few stragglers in team chat. It needs to be addressed.
Thoughts and suggestions welcome. |

I like it, but where would scoreboard go? I'm one of those weirdos who has the nasty habit of checking the board during downtime ever since Quakeworld. |

You would access the scoreboard through the Necom (Start Menu). |

Or scrap the PTT entirely and just have a well functioning mute instead. Then have the Squad Leader channel on the left d-pad, while keeping the scoreboard on the up d-pad.
Edit: Or better yet, when holding down left d-pad you can navigate through the different comms (squad chat, squad leader chat if you're SL etc.) with L2 and R2. |

I was thinking about scrapping the PTT button as well, but I've found there still a lot of people that use it. I personally wouldn't miss it.
My thought on removing the scoreboard hot key is that does give you good information, but it doesn't enhance gameplay directly. You can still access the info; it just takes more time to do so. |

+1 I have a problem with the 2 channel system. I hate going to team channel to communicate with my entire team, but sacrifice being able to talk to my squad, and some won't join team chat when you team them.
My idea: Maybe squad leader should be able to switch chat channel for entire squad. |

For a simple solution I think that could work really well. I just think we may need to get away from the idea of having two distinct channels where you can't hear someone if they are in a channel different from you.
It would be nice to keep the squad chatter from broadcasting to the rest of the team, while still being able to do burst of team wide coms.

I think we need a platoon leader giving certain orders / requests to squad leaders. This would create a cohesion in everybody being on the same page, and knowing whats next. we need a team leader and a voice for total command over troops. A "GENERAL" maybe!? |

the only people who should be talking across squads are squad leader. im talking linked coms not proxy chat. when 32 people have something to say not much gets heard.
also don't forget that there is one more command position that has not been released yet; the commander position. hes the dude in charge of the battle for his team so he is going to need an exclusive broadcast to everyone. |

For when the player count does increase, it will be hard to maintain orderly communication when potentially everyone from 1 team is talking at once. Squad leader being the only one able to switch chats would be good.
Squad channel: squad members can only speak on here. Team channel (or renamed squad leader channel): squad leaders get the option to use this channel to coordinate with each other. It is also important that squad leaders NOT in team channel can hear of other squad leaders that are in team channel. This is to keep squad leaders on the same page. Command chat: commanders can use this channel, and everyone hears the speaker, regardless of what channel he is in. If there is no commander in a game mode, then any squad leader can use it. |

I agree very much with replacing the score button (you are probably useless if you use this regularly during a match) with a team PTT.
I think by default it should allow ANYONE to broadcast. Especially in public matches the squad leaders are mostly not even aware that they have squad.
I could possibly see corporate matches with Commanders able to change that setting globally but I don't really see the need. If you have someone that inappropriately broadcasts then kick them.

I think there should be a primary (talk/listen) channel and one or more secondary (listen only) channels.
The up button could be for cycling between them. |

If the team chat was limited to squad leaders what do you guys think about having friendly proxy voice coms? That way if you link up with friendlies on the field or if you are in a vehicle together you can directly coordinate.
Would something like this introduce lag or increase server load? I haven't played a game with proxy chat since the early days of Counter Strike, so I'm not familiar with how it's been implemented in more recent games.
On the note of the channels, I think people need to hear both at all times and not have to switch around channel. Who is able to hear those channels and who is able to talk in them I'm not sure. I'm leaning more to squad leaders having a channel they can always hear and listen too, but I think the points made about people not even realizing they are squad leaders in pub matches is valid. |

Personally I can't really see the direct need for a third chat channel...ie proximity but maybe.
It's no more or less of a hit than anything else....distance checks are occurring all the time for collision anyway and that would be a simple radius.

The reason behind friendly proxy chat is that my goal is to minimize and eliminate channel switching as much as possible.
I see it being really important in the operation of a dropship where the guys being bussed around would be able to communicate to the pilot and vice versa. This would also help if you get people not in a squad in a tank, lav, etc. |

Right now I just want voice chat to default to the team channel and be start out as "active". At least the players who don't have mics could hear what is being said and react.
I also want a working mute for those guys with PTT off and constant feedback out of their mic. |

I think this would be a good stopgap Altaree, but in the longterm I think we are going to something more substantial. 16 Random people shouting out stuff can get very cluttered very fast.
If we end up with a squad channel and squad leader channel I think proxy would fill in the gaps for situations where this might cause a problem. |

I appreciate the thread necromancy KAGEHOSHI Horned Wolf.
But yeah, proxy chat would be nice and I think it would solve many coms issues in pub matches. I still think it would need to be limited to friendly proxy chat. |

I would also like an option to send an ingame page to player, sending them a message(similar to a mail notification) across the screen reading : VOICE CHAT REQUEST FROM DJINN Riot IN CORP/LOCAL/CUSTOM CHANNEL. ect.
Maybe limit it to 1 per 5 minutes to reduce spam. |
