I don't like the idea of suicide devices at all. Getting killed shouldn't be rewarded. Running around in a militia scout suit with nothing but militia junk and an auto-detonator will be a really stupid thing to have to deal with. |

The last thing I thought this game would become is CoD, however adding stuff like this is certainly off putting. I honestly don't know why someone would think it's a good idea to add suicide bombers to the game. |

yes u would have a chance infact the only reason ppl are able to run up to u in the first place is because of the "awesome" hit detection DUST currently has.
Nova Knives are also a side arm now so if u allow someone to run up to u with a knife drawn and either stab u or u linger around after he somehow got in ur face and u kill him to be killed by smart bombs then yea....ur also kinda at fault there tbh.
i doubt smart bombs will be instant detonate and i doubt CCP would be dumb enough to put them on militia suits EVEN tho militia items will be costing u ISK from the next build.
Im not a fan of it and i honestly dont see it being used in anything other than hisec for some trollin, when **** is on the line in FW and nullsec ppl wont bring troll fits to battle so smart bombs i dont see being a big issue there
Hisec is for casual fun, if ppl wanna troll and have the funding to keep purchasing smart bombs roll with it in the attempt for some lulz then thats their choice |

The only difference now is then you put a module on a militia scout suit which will probs cost you around 1000 ISK and then you start running into enemy groups with only 1 goal: blow them up in their expensive gear. And will we get that thing for vehicles aswell? Go ahead and put it on your militia vehicle and crash into any kind of tank. Who needs av weapons if you have suicide LAV bombers? |

Mavado, Hit detection isnt the sole problem. Dust is probably one of the shooters that requires the biggest amount of rounds to take a guy to the ground.
Good hit detection or not, people have a better chance to come CQC on you due to this fact than in other shooters.
Also, let's not forget all maps wont be such "open space". And a tight urban type map with those things ? Hell no. |

why not? unlike fagoduty this will waste PG/CPU. making the person much less combat effective. plus this game is more long range, and panic knifing BS doesn't happen. I approve of it as long as the blast radius isn't to large. |

Long range mostly ? Depends on the map actually. And wait till the next nova knife changes, we may be surprised.
Also, we have no idea how gready this item could be in terms of CPU\PG. |

This is an AWESOME idea. Downright amazing. Why is everyone so against this?
All CCP has to do to make this viable is A) turn on friendly fire, B) make the damage/radius significant though not unreasonable, C) make the price/resource requirement rather high, and D) make them manually detonated. Now, what does this accomplish?
Friendly fire would mean that you wouldn't have the option of blowing yourself to pieces in the middle of a ten man CQC fight in order to decimate your enemies and leave your friends untouched, it would only be valuable for taking out someone that lone-wolfed you. The high damage/radius would also play into this bit.
If the price were significant, it would mean you couldn't have this on every fit and expect to make money at the end of the round, assuming you die more than once or twice. It would also possibly make specializing in suicide a viable role.
Manual detonation is obviously necessary, if people exploded automatically the moment they went down, what hope would a shotgun wielding scout have against such a weapon?
It is also easy to realize, that using this bomb would shred your corpse, meaning you could no longer be revived, so blowing yourself to pieces could not only be staggering to your own wallet, but it could put a dent in the wallets of your allies as well. As such, if a triage unit is in the area, it makes sense to wait it out, hope your team clears the area, and possibly save the 50k - 100k ISK you spent on the suit. |

What slot will it be? In EvE, smart bombs use the same slots as guns and missiles. So, it may take a light weapon slot to equip a auto-detonator. The auto in name suggests it will be on death, so you would have till they they hit bleed out to get back. it may require having it equipped to detonate, so it's a unarmed guy with bomb. We will find out with next build, much feedback will be given then.
Does the smartbomb item say on death? In EvE smart bombs were a radius that damages enemies and friendlies but not yourself. Like the typhoon system from Deus Ex: human revolution, or the emp pulse on the ships in The Matrix movies. A weak explosion centered on player that causes player no-damage with a recharge till next use. Just wondering since smart bomb and auto-detionator could be two diffrent item.
EvE style smart bomb would be a great counter to scouts strafing faster then heavy heavy can turn, detonate to make them move away so turn speed can keep up to shoot them. |

Edit: Of course in order to work out the bugs they may have to be easily accessible for a while. *Remembers the days HAV/Dropship BPOs and RE spams, and shudders. |

Exactly.
And to those who say : "make it high SP\ISK\CPU\PG demanding". Then what's the point of it all ? And to those comparing it to smartbombs in EVE i say LOL. Smartbombs in EVE have a tactical aspect in their use. There it's just a simple "ho god i died but BOOOOOM fragged you ! me happy"
What's the overall gain in gameplay with this ? Isnt there many other stuff to add that would effect the game a lot more positively ? Like re-balancing shield tanking and armor tanking through new armor modules ?

If they are added, they need to be such a high PG/CPU cost that it makes having other modules and weapons almost impossible. Also, it needs to be auto detonated. Still not sure about it though. |

I am inclined to be against it, but I suppose it could be handled well... like a sound alarm and flashing light that gives you a second or 2 to escape the blast, and a really low radius. |

So long as they have a slight delay and a visual queue that they're about to go off, it should be fine. That way only noobs will die to this, or those who get tricked by clever players.

Then nobody will use it. That's the problem with this, it's such an all-or-nothing thing. If it won't wipe out the people you're near, people will see it as a waste (rightfully) and never equip it. If it does wipe out people near the blast, then it will be abused like crazy, with all-militia scout suits running around with this thing and a shotgun. It'll be incredibly annoying, or it'll be a waste of time to even code it. Either way, it isn't gameplay that sounds fun to me and I wish they'd just not even go this direction. |
