Will the MMO gameplay part of this MMOFPS ever show in multiplayer scale of Dust?
Right now all we see is small scale 16vs16 battles. Like a standard lobby FPS game. Nothing MMO about this FPS gameplay other than IP.
I was hoping that this is just a beta thing, and not the final results of the gameplay. Because it has smaller scale than MAG and Resistance 2, Both of which are FPS on the PS3 which don't have the status of being MMOFPS at all.
How can a MMOFPS have smaller scale than a non MMOFPS? |

Because it is tied in together with Eve Online is my guess as to why it's being titled as an MMOFPS, eve is an MMO on a single shard server |

24vs24 is promised and do you in MAG get to roam the many planets of EVE Online and interact with thousands of players in a political and economical conundrum? |

You can't really compare DUST and MAG beyond the FPS battles. DUST will connect to a universe of 7000+ star systems, hundreds of thousands of spaceship pilots, a huge player-run economy, corporations and alliances all with their own political maneuverings and wars. That's what "massively multiplayer" means.
The numbers in battles will increase also. |

I'd say 32-48 players is a sweet spot for Dust's map sizes, any more and you're just stuffing the map with too many players.
Even in MAG I feel there are too many people stuffed on one map, and especially in games like Killzone 2 and Resistance 2. |

Since they class maps by capacity, resistance is fine |

Well it's an MMOFPS for other things other than the number of players in a battle. I'm not going to fully detail it because the guy above did a good job with a summary. Now I understand that having a whole bunch of players on screen would be like all cool at first but when you get down to it, fighting 100 vs 100 in the same area can really get chaotic. I've played Resistance and well Resistance 2 actually had this down despite it's other flaws but that's because it was a simplistic multiplayer and the missions were usually TDM. Doing such a scale with missions without having these guys separated like how it was in MAG is bad. I do think that CCP is going in this direction though. You've seen the moon we're playing on and you see multiple areas outside of the battlefield. I'm sure that these battlefields will be getting plays at the same time. One lost of a battle will affect the other players and so on. |

Go into a map and before you pick a spawn point hold down "L2" for a while. These maps are much bigger than you realize.
CCP has claimed that they've successfully tested 64v64, so I'm sure we'll be seeing at least that by release. |

When will people stop asking for bigger sized squads before CCP gets the servers from freezing and kicking people out?
Bigger squads and player per map will do nothing but make the beta harder to play unless they get the servers more stable. |

MMO isn't about whether you can have 8 or 80 people on your team in a battle. It is about how many other teams there are that you can fight, or how big the corporation is that you select your teams from, or how many corps there are, or which alliances those corps belong to.
Its about an alliance of thousands of players attacking a star-system held by another alliance, with city-sized capital and super-capital spaceships, but in order to get those massive ships into system they need a small squad of ground troops to go in and take out the cynosoral field generator.
None of this is in the beta right now, and much of it won't even be in the game at launch. But some of it will be, and that is the vision for Dust. |

There will be bigger maps and more players- I think the MMO part will be that nothing (besides merc quarters) will be instanced. There won't be 40 different battles going on in the same map- each area can only have 1 thing going on at a time, and players potentially moving between them. |

with this many bugs and problems joining/staying in games more players is the least important thing imo, they need to get the major bugs squashed first (hit detection, invalid fit, comms bug, internal server error, the list goes on) |

I assume it will be something like whats MAG does, in thats its 32vs32 + 32vs32 rather than a straight up 64vs64 |

Short answer? No. MMO side of things will be social&economic I would expect. All depends on what "massive" means to you though. |

im fine with 32v32 on some districts for corp warfare and 64v64 on say a few key districts on a planet which will more suit alliance warfare
ppl gotta remember that each of the districts can be attacked simultaneously so no need to have matches have a huge zerg fest on one district. Gotta keep in mind of the playerbase and playercount. Dont want to make the same mistakes as MAG and have these large games where it never fills up and the modes eventually die because ppl not waiting 30mins to get into a match.
player count needs to stay reasonable for DUST to thrive |

MAG wasnt. PS2 is a MMOFPS. its all about the massive multiplayer which separates the MMOFPS from the CoDs and BF3s. |

When Dust integrates with Eve on Tranquility server, then Dust will be MMO.
in Eve you can sometimes forget that it is populated, space can seem empty. Region>solar system>planet>zone>district>map
In Dust you won't be piloting any space craft, hopefully we get some RP hang outs, like a bar or something... and maybe some open run maps when we get our own planets (as opposed to openly contested planets). |

Dust is a FPS like many but not MMO:
-no open wold. -no massive PVP like in MAG...MAG was more massive multiplayer online then Dust. -matchmaking and timed matches just like in any PVP FPS. -invisible walls instead then geographical limitations like in open world games. |

You can think this way:
MMORPGs has huge ammount of players. Most quests in MMORPG are quests where is only "few" players doing it. Then there is RAID quests where is often max 12 players. Even there is lots of more players you play with only few of them and all of those players are keeping economy running like auction.
Ofcourse there is guilds like shooters has (mostly called) clans.
But yes I think if grafic stays like this or it will be only little pit better, I don't see why there can't be so many players in battlefield as example MAG has, but I don't know how these things works either. =P Many says that example BF3 can't have more players with PS3 becouse that graphics and it was downscaled so there can be so many as there is now.
But I'm not a gamemaker. |
