I was thinking the adverage fight in dust gives a player about 40,000 sp. The daily passive income is only 20,000, but I can undestand how they dont' want afk players to super level while away for 3-4 months.
So here is my suggestion. sp passive gain decays over time. In 2 weeks of not playing it should drop to 10k a day instead of 40k. A single match brings this total back up. So a game a day is promoted, or a day a week. |

I think its fine as is, people that complain about not having skill to compete can wait til they have some rather then quit. |

Agree with the OP, it would encourage people to play at least few times in certain time frame like week/day/month. The more the people play the more likely they are to spend money on AUR as well.
Something on the lines of maximum amount of passive SP you can get while offline. There could even be chance for extra revenue here for CPP by offering boosters for increasing this cap. It doesn't make the game P2W as people can just play more to keep their passive SP going.
But I don't think the cap should be too harsh on less active players. Something on the lines of Few days or a week or 2. |

How about the following (unlikely since it's so different):
Passive skill point gain only. Your rate starts at some value (say 20,000 per day like now) and decays over time down to zero.
Playing the game doesn't award skill points but does increase your passive skill point gain rate (up to some limit chosen so people at the top earn about the same they do now). |

Yeah. The incentive to play is the active SP. The passive SP is to keep those of us who can't play all the time somewhat competitive.
I enjoy when I come back after a couple days and passive SP has pushed me passed my goal for whatever I'm saving for.
It's one of the few things about the game that seems to be working perfectly (IMO). |

The point of passive SP it to make it so you don't need to play the game all the time in order to keep up. I think active SP needs to be dropped to be in line with passive SP. |

I agree, as has already been said, the point of the passive gain is to make it so that people that can play for 50 hours a week don't just stomp all over anyone who can't match their play time, which is also the reason for the active SP decline. |

right but I'm trying to address 2 issues here.
1.CCP don't want passive sp income to be too high.
2.Passive income is too low
you could make the minimium sp 20,000, which is where it is now, but if you play, that is increased to 40,000 for a few days as log as you play a whole match. the degrade could go as follows.
40,000 35,000 day 1 30,000 day 2 25,000 day 3 20,000 day 4
another idea is more straight forward

That's a whole different issue. Personally I think the decay should last a week. At the end of the week your active sp gains are rest. Meaning you get one day of maxium sp in games. So as long as you only play one day a week you're always getting tons of sp. People who want to play all week start to get 2,000-3,000 a game by the end of the week. But people who only play for one day a week get 40,000-60,000 a match |

and so if the person doesnt have that much time to play and for example everyone is wearing proto.....that is where AUR bought equipment comes in.Which I personally dont see a problem with at all.Its how it can be fun and balanced with out nerfs.The guy who can play all day can build ISK the other guy cant.kids work wife....let him rock AUR stuff from head to toe..it really doesnt bother me...now should people complain about that..no they shouldnt.Knerfing weps and equipment is a recipe for disaster......it becomes a constant thingThis AR up that AR down.Spreads clip size.You as a player will never get into a groove with your gear.....just makes the game uncertain.Just because a guy doesnt have sniper skills doesnt mean he should complain about some proto sniper rifle.Eventually youll be done with your primary weapon skills and someday the last thing youll have to put your skill points into is say shotguns or sniper rifles.My pint is eventually youl unlock everything and say one sunday afternon you just want to snipe....well guess what they just got rid of that sniper rifle youve been skilling to get or dropship or tank or suit or.........
Till were all playing with the same generic stuff...well there goes the appeal to me of having multiple options. |

I can see where you're coming from, but I would prefer an even simpler solution: give everybody 40k SP a day, no matter what. You see, that one game a month can quickly become more of a liability rather than an incentive for those players that decided to take a break from the game. We certainly want people to get back to the game as often as possible, but it should be the game play and the game content that compells them, not a hovering threat of lowered SP gain.
I see it this way: if someone takes a break from the game for a few month, and passive SP income is high rather than low, there will be a much higher incentive for the person to get back to the game eventually, instead of abandoning it for good. You know you've build up some substantial sum of SP even while you weren't playing, and that's why you won't be totally out of the loop once you hop back in. That's how it is with EVE Online. Just like EVE, Dust will be evolving constantly and is not meant to be replaced by a successor after a year or two. So when you come back to the game after 6 or even 12 months, it will have changed a lot and will have much more to offer than it had 12 months before. That's when you'll be happy that there is passive SP gain that kept you connected to everyone else who did not stop playing. |

I think that would be a helpful way to keep a FTP alive, kind of reminds me of the whole training while not subscribed with EVE back in the day. Though then it was a loss to the company now it looks like an incentive for players to come back.
Either system will be exploited so that makes no difference, what does make a difference is how do they keep the game alive for those that do invest their time and effort into it, and the SP as is seems to be a good start. |
