Is anyone else having serious issues with the Mass Driver?
This is the most bugged weapon in the game! I'll tell you what, create a new weapon in the next build called the My Lil' Pony Driver that shoots marshmallows full of love and happiness. I'll still kill more people with that than this current Mass Driver.
The detonation ratio of the projectiles I shoot is beyond the joke. I decided to count them in my last match because I was SURE I was getting less than half the detonations to the shots. Guess how many I got after emptying an entire gun? Two........BLOODY TWO!!!! I got slaughtered in that game due to the pathetic bugs in this gun.
I'm sorry CCP...........actually, you know what? I'm not sorry CCP.........fix this bloody gun! NOW. I used to love using this thing, but now I don't know what to do. I've spent so much SP on skilling this weapon and it has been a complete waste. And it can't be attributed to lag because my Mass Driver using Corp mates from the US have been reporting a similar performance and they do not experience lag like we do in Australia.
And while I'm on my rant and bringing up lag, PLEASE do something about your netcode. I thought our Pacific worries were over when you brought in the Asia servers. What the hell happened to them? I realise this is a more than somewhat troublesome issue to fix, but please do something for us people on the other half of the globe. We are a smaller lot, but we are just as desperate to play this game when it IS playable.
Lastly, there seems to be an issue with Grenade HP. I'm only using Locus Grenades, but 3 times in the same match tonight I landed a LG next to an enemy and it did nothing to their Shields or Armour. I don't know how often this happens to the general population, but I have experienced this numerous times before and I thought I better bring this to your attention.

Not if you only get a couple of detonations out of them.....
But yes, more to shoot would be nice if they fix the issues. |

Yeah, I really wanted to spec into the Mass Driver, too. I found a trick to using them is to hit plyers dead on. When I run a Mass Driver, I tend to use an advanced Aurum model--think its the Typhoon or Cyclone--and found that if i can hit the enemy squarely, then it's usually a one-hit-kill.
However, when firing close or near to the enemy, many times the shells appear not to explode, like the OP mentioned.
Had one game where I had about 6 kills with the MDriver and they almost all were the result of direct hits on enemy players, usually fools who would charge me and I would just pop one into their chest. |

That's good to hear, Wolf. It's obviously an issue across the board.
@SoLJae: Yeah, actually, come to think of it I only landed the one direct hit with the Mass in that match. An instant kill too. Although there doesn't seem to be a detonation when it hits them directly. Not that explosion animations is my problem here. If opponents were still copping splash damage from Non-Visible detonations then I wouldn't of had a cry about it. But these Non-detonations result in 0 damage, leaving me wide open. And I know these projectiles were landing right next to the enemies, so they should have copped something. |

Just saying same for grenades but they actually explode alot more then they well explode. They will do damage even though it doesn't give you feedback. So your just moaning more then you should and actually don't know how to use the gun. Even if it is broken. |

oh, the mass driver so fun to use, so useless as a weapon
half the rounds don't actually detonate, your clip is tiny (4 is enough to kill maybe one assault suit, maybe) and the total count is a joke (i have to stand on a damn nanohive)
if the default driver had a 6 round drum and like 20 to 24 rounds, that would make much more sense
also it doesn't really need more damage, it just needs its damage falloff radius increased
although apparent the devs have said they're looking into increasing the 100% damage radius of the weapon, basically pushing its falloff further out |

Yeah, it's good news all around for the radius, and obviously they know about the detonation glitch. But a few more rounds would be helpful as well. I don't know if we need the 6 round clip, since 3 shots can be pretty devastating to an opponent when they actually work. But especially on large open maps you burn thru rounds like an HMG! So yeah, 20-24 rounds seems fair I reckon!
As far as the small clip goes, I'm gonna work on my Rapid Reload like crazy after I get my Mass to Lvl 5. You get caught out too many times with that slow gun. |

it would be good to see a new aiming reticule for the MD as well.
Something along the lines of a little square that runs along the ground and up walls to approximate where the round will hit.
I don't see any reason why this weapon should be the only weapon in the game with a "touchy feelly, the spirits are telling me to fire the gun NOW!" intuitive reticule. |

An issue I have with the MD (and I HAD with the SL and FG) is that getting capacity skill up doesn't reward you every level. Maybe not increasing the count of backup ammo the gun has, but giving the gun an inherent value of +2 ammo per level of Light Weapons Capacity may work.
Also, reinforcing the notion that yes, these kitteners don't explode when they really need to. Shot one that JUST missed a guy who had backed himself into a corner, and no damage. It was a Scout suit too, so no matter how well he tanked he shoulda took SOME visible damage.
Finally, anyone think that the Breach variant should have either a longer range or faster projectile speed? it feels like the Anti Armor version, and I can already hit the occasional low hanging Dropship with it, so it'd make a bit of sense... |

What is the drop off for the MD range anyway? Cos I've seen them thrown at MASSIVE lengths. |

the breach variant might make sense at proto level, but at basic level the breach's reduced damage radius makes it a pain in tha butt.
Also to add to the "mis-fire" bug, i've had matches where no shots fired from my MD's did not go off. But in other matches, up to 3 shots per cartridge have fizzed, and that during these matches, fizzled MD rounds were very common.
So I'm starting to think its either lag (not likely imho >.<), or perhaps tied into....Hit Detection..... which the DEV's have come forward as saying they think the Instant battle system is bugging out on in some matches.
would kinda make sense that some algorithm has decided that the MD "missed" ...
dunno... its annoying.. its a great weapon when you run it into someone's face... or pull off an amazingly lucky shot over a pipe but under the roof. |

My favorite is sneaking up behind some sniper and putting 6 rounds into his suite from 10 - 15 meters away. No visable damage no splosions nutting... I had to go knife the sucker in the back and killed him in one swing. It seems far worse on elevated terrain and indoors than level open surfaces. Its like the arming mechinism is all out of wack.
Also any noticed that the six round variants fire much faster than the four round variants. As if having to reload sooner wasnt enough. |

I've had similar problems... The mass driver - Very Cool weapon BTW - doesn't seem effective, & sometimes, doesn't seem to have any effect at all... Now I'm not 100% accurate with it yet, but still - even in close quarters, the splash damage has no effect at all... |

I haven't skilled up to MD's this build yet but Corban is right, previous build they were pretty broken too. They had much of the same issues the rest of you are currently reporting. |

I will say this, and it's been touched on by others, but this isn't a problem with just Mass Drivers it's a problem with grenades. Far too many of them end up being duds. This even occurs with flux and AV grenades.
I'm a big grenade guy so I've use them all. AVs work the best but even they aren't 100%. And, yes, sometimes they take damage but just don't explode but there are still too many cases where they don't explode at all. |

The Mass Driver does need some lovin'. We're bumping up the inner splash radius of the Mass Driver rounds, so that it'll be easier to score high-damage hits with it (since the damage it does is actually alright if you happen to be spot on).
The Mass Driver rounds/grenades disappearing is a trickier one. We've been trying to reproduce it internally for a while now, but haven't found a foolproof method of doing so and hence tracking down the bug has been difficult.
Maybe you guys can help us out. Are the some specific conditions that make Mass Driver rounds/grenades start to disappear more than usual? Has anyone found a reliable way to reproduce the issue? Perhaps a location on a map or bad network conditions?

i wish I could, i had to drop using them too. I was wondering if its becuase they hit outside range?
in which case can you make them explode in the air at the end of thier range at least to give better visual feed back that we are shooting to far?
Or maybe make the aimming mode top down from a camera drone?
Another idea is how GW2 handles it with a green circle marker where your going to hit *only see it while aiming?* that turns red when it's too far. |

It happened more to me when I was firing at walls and other props ground shots almost always work but maybe its just me but I stopped usually the mass driver mainly just because it sucks to begin with |

Conditions are hard to pinpoint, Nothin. I mostly experience it at mid to long range, and especially out in the sand.
But that is not to say that I don't experience it around buildings, or structures, even at close range. Heck, they disappeared twice into an LAV I was taking down, so absent detonations don't seem to have a physical trigger from my end of things. |

Since E3 build I've only used mass drivers. When Precursor came out I noticed a huge improvement in rounds exploding, haven't had nearly as many headaches with them in the last couple weeks. When it does happen seems to be on long range shots so I don't get too worked up about it as it probably wouldn't have been a kill anyway.
Is it possible it's lag related? On the more stable matches I don't seem to experience any problems, but those few games where I feel like I'm glitching around a lot there's always a couple shots that just seem to disappear. |

setting aside militia mass drivers would be a very good idea . that said maybe setingt up a rotation of elite weapons like mass drivers and forge guns at militia power levels should be done so they can all be debuged and tested. this is after all a beta and we are testers . its not a official game yet and limiting access to weapons that need to be tested is counter productive |

Previous build I actually had more luck bouncing it into structures then I did at the ground. I know that would at least trigger the explosion effects. Otherwise if it would explode on the ground you wouldn't get the explosion effect, just a drop in HP of the target. |

And some people think the mass driver is an AV weapon, it is not, its a grenade launcher, its used agains tinfantry in close quarters. |

I specd for Mass Drivers to play a Demoman fit only to find out that beyond a sertain range, grenades simply don't explode, and 70% of the time don't explode even when shot at my own feet.
The one thing I can't wait for more than the fixing of this is the implimentation of a vanity AUR store where you can buy HATS! HATS EVERYWHERE! |

Agreed. Another MD user here. I chose the weapon because in theory it's one of those that should take skill and practive to get good at (as opposed to hitting the trigger and spraying until you oppont dies). But as thigs stand right now I think the weapon is A) glitched - shells that are fired at close range, say 20 - 30 feet, don't go off (no explosion animation and also judging by enemy health bars no actual damage) and B) dramatically underpowered relative to other weapons - super low capacity, splash radius too low, and ideally I would like to see more splash damage too, maybe a curve distribution (for example 100% of base damage at 1m, 60-70% at 5m, 20-30% at 10m). High damage like this makes up for otherwise a weapon that's difficult to aim with and slow shell flight. Also would be nice that this thing would be super dangerous at close range to user. Right now I ironically get most kills by shooting at my feet when enemy charge me - shock wave destroys them but there is relatively little damage to my dropsuit, which is lame. |

I have another thought. Mass driver should have a reticle that makes sense - something that they have on sniping rifles IRL - an indicator that suggests that if you are firing at a target 60m away - aim this high, and the way you can say that your targer is, say 60 m away, is because there would be a set of hash marks where your opponent would fit between. So a person that's far away would appear very small and their figure would fit between a set of hashmarks that corresponds to a certain distance and the reticle should guide you how to adjust the arch to shoot for that distance. I hope I explained this in a way that makes sense. Please, support this idea if you like it. |

By reading the forum I realized that some ppl have few problems with MD (few shells that dont go off) while for others it happens most of the time. For me maybe 30-50% don't go off. Short range mostly, but then again, maybe i notice the fail more at short range since it's clearly visible and your life is on the lne, giving it more of 'memorable' factor. Overall, i get quit a bit of lag especially when in a close firefight (screen would freeze for 1.0 seconds), and this happens, with any weapon. When I am with MD these are also the settings (close range frenzy combat) when I tend to fire all rounds at once and a lot of them don't go off. So i think lag probably has a lot to do with this problem. Also, at least, for me MD shells tend to go off fine when they hit a vertical structure - namely I noticed they go off consistently when they hit those iron barriers scattered around in terrain on the map with 'four sniping towers'. |

I've been doing some more experimentation today with MD. Seems like rounds tend to not go off in complex terrain more often compared to paved, even floors. |

A lot of explosive projectile weapons are having issues.
I've had the same problem with missile turrets and even swarm launchers to some extent (not quite as bad, but it happens).
I think this might be a latency issue in general, or the projectiles might be falling through the map instead of impacting like they should be. Of course that last bit is purely speculation on my part. |
