just done a corp battle that basically just proved what people have been saying for months, that good tanks have NO effective counter at all we had one good tank vs 3 and just got spanked, team play just didnt come into it.
OS strikes where pointless because tanks can just move out the way.
frankly this has been a clear problem for a while and nerfing AV even more has just made the problem worse. the Effort to kill for tanks is just completely off and needs to be readdressed.
at the moment corp battles will simply come down to which ever corp can field the most tanks/dropships playerskill wont matter which means newb corps we never have a look in. while this may work for EvE, in FPS this is never ever fun and with the way game is built it just wont be fun for all but the top units who just go round whomping the little guys who dont have any high-sec space to have fun in.
any thoughts on this, as at the moment i fear this is game-breaking if you look at the big pic |

We just had a battle where the enemy fielded 3 tanks on an open map and they lost horrible . But you know what ? Their K/D was great und ours sucked. |

Like Starhawk where the only people left playing are tank drivers, Hawk pilots, and people like being killed by tank drivers and hawk pilots. |

I specialized in AV for two builds before the forge nerf and the AV nerf and they where a massive pain in the ass to kill. Even than I stood firm on keeping the tank untouched by the nerf bat.
I have since changed my tune.

I used swarm Launchers last build, and right now they are not nearly as effective as last build. Missile Spread when you fire them ruins most of it, and add the fact the tracking logic on the missiles are worse. They try to hit the bottom of the target. In the E3 build, i did lock and fire straight up in the air, so the missiles did approache from above, this dosnt work as good as it was.
But if you want to use them, its basically 2 points in Swarmlaunchers so you can get the AUR 6 missile one. Then fill you suit with as many Complex light damage mods as possible. Only start firing at a tank with a full magazin of swarms and carry a Nanohive with you.
So there are not really many skillpoints involved.
Tanks are harder to kill now because of this, but its still enough to send them running. |

I think the tanks are fine as they are now, but the av weapons are so terrible, that the tanks don't have the counter that's supposed to keep them in balance. |

I've specced AV and had no complaints re any vehicles before the AV nerf today. You couldn't expect to solo a tank but you had no qualms about trying to - Now you need slight S&M tendancies to do so. As it stands , even lame-o tank drivers are able to roll about with impunity. Considering most tanks fit 3 resist mods it seems bizarre to nerf 25% from AV damage. I can't begin to fathom why but hey, maybe some clarification will emerge soon enough. Sch'yeah
Sweet spots on vehicles btw ? Personally tested this as best I could and saw absolutely no difference.
I have managed to solo one M/L HAV today, but he had no support or turret buddies - A rare occurance unfortunately. |

I've had quite a few tanks blown up to foot soldiers. It just seems to me that people seem to want a weapon that they can 1 or 2 shot a tank solo. That would completely nullify the very name "tank". If you want to kill a tank, organize and get it done whiners. |

In the match I played there was 2 tanks on the other side. We only had 1. We dominated the whole match. All 3 points 95% of the time. Me and another guy with swarm launchers relegated the two tanks to hiding in the hills. Then one made a run for it and bumped into our tank as his shield boosters ran out and received swarms up the jacksie along with another tank shooting it and popped like a ripe spot. The other one just hid te whole time. |

Eventually, you will see tanks that you could unload all 6-9 advanced swarms into and toss all of your proto grenades, but the tank will just keep on rolling. Trying to solo the expensive tanks (with a high sp driver) is fun, but nearly pointless unless the balance between av and assult ppl are switched to where you will see a majority of the players on a team using av weapons and just a couple using the AR. Or are atleast able to to switch to av at the first sign of a tank.
Although, realistically, the best way to kill them is with an equal tank and some av backup support. Otherwise, you are just trying to fill a gap with av ppl.
Yes, I agree that the av weapons are frustrating, but its what we currently got. Maybe new squad tactics will come around that can give them a run for their money. |

Tried to kill him before he hacked it. He drove straight into our spawn though and got stuck when trying to reverse out. Had to nail the tank to get him though. |

was the tank colored like sand? if so non normal tank. A well built tank should only be taking about 40% of what hits it in the first place and cost about 500k. lots of power but very cost inefficient. |

Shields have inherent explosive resistance. the only way for infantry to pop a Gunnlogi or Sagaris now is a proto assault forge gun at 100k a pop - to do the damage that a 20k one did one day ago and aim for where you think the weak spots May be because you can't tell if you're aiming at them.

oh crap played against Bad furrys corp we lost but i destroyed 4 gunnlogi and 1 sagaris. That was a challenge. Lost 3 tanks but i stand a good chance. I made bad furry back off the B objective and instantly destroyed the gunnlogi that tried to replace him. To take me down you need minimum 2 tanks or catch me off guard. refreshing after blowing up worthless crap over and over again. Sure they hurt me on ISK but i made them feel the pain harder. Espacially that other sagaris driver learned a lesson: never go into a 1vs1 fight against me or you will loose every time. At the end bad furry got me after i got like 30% damage before. Was a good fight keep it up. |

E3 Build I'd happily run up to a tank, throw a load of remote explosives around it and BOOM - this build I run away and hide.

I disagree with infantry being useless. I have different types of loadout.
1. Uplink with a nanoinjector 2. Swarmlauncher, nanohives, submachine gun 3. Nanoinjector, nanohives 4. A sniper.
I have taken dropships and tanks with just a militia swarmlaunchers. Guess what? They're pissed. With the STB rolling around with tanks, I have to change my tactics. Also, I have seen randoms shooting the tank with their AR.
EDIT: Also, they haven't added a weapon that slows down vehicles. It's like a fishing net that they mentioned in the fanfest. |

BS. Go in timeout. Swarms do 250 a missile. Militia shoots 4. 1000 damage. A good tank runs 12-16000 EHP. You are killing militia junk. All your missiles ...12 set of swarms hitting a target? With reloads, throwing down a nanohive....blah blah BS.
You must be shooting tanks that driver have fallen asleep in...not even then...the shields regen.

Also, me and my buddy have been tooling around in my dropship. It's his first time playing in a while, but we took out two tanks in our first two games. Would've been three in two but for a disconnect. Almost got a Madrugar the third game but he just barely survived with 5% armor at the end of the game. Had no luck with a Sagaris, them sumbitches have a lot of shields. Might have more luck if I specced into rails or something, I've heard rumors that missiles don't fare well against shields.
Anyway, we just about shut down every HAV we found. Good times. |

I know you dont care about what i say since im a godless tank driver, but understand that thats why i can say that a competent av squad can ruin a tanks day very quickly. if your so concerned with not being able to one shot a tank by yourself, you have the wrong mindset, since you are using a 100k fitting to take out a 2mil isk vehicle manned by three mercs. If people would actually use the terrain and tactics to their advantage, they can pop a tank, any tank.
I refuse to tell whiners where the weak spot is, since you should at least be able to find it out yourself and if your gonna say, "but i cant lock onto the weak spot :( how am i supposed to reliably hit it everytime?" heads up, you can reliably aim a forge gun.
anybody who played last build will tell you that having a team of tanks is a losing formula. you need boots on the ground for objectives. Tanks kill things. thats what their purpose is, but they cant hack, they cant transport troops unless thay have a cru, and they are very expensive to maintain if you lose them to a competent av squad.
There are good dropship pilots, good snipers, good logis, but ill be damned if i ever saw somebody comment on how someone might just be a good driver. Noob drivers might call in a tank, but they will lose them fast and if they dont, its your teams fault for letting them keep an incompetent tank while he fires off. Lots of people just dont care and they come onto the forums to huff and puff until tanks arent even in the game anymore, but understand that tanks are doing tank things, nothing more, nothing less.
Against a good driver, no single av guy should be able to take out a fully manned tank. In the same way, a tank with only a driver should not be able to ignore a fully specced out av guy and if he doesnt take out that av guy pronto, that tank should and in my experience, does pop.

Me thinks you gunned down young tanks, since everyone now needs one, people that aren't the dedicated tank users are being forced without warning by CCP to go into tanks, who IF they TOLD us this at the start of this build or even a week ago, we could have accomplished something, like not sinking 90% of their sp into anti-av.
How about they make a custom battle get all the tank users in one server, and let them go at each other.... instead of making the infrantry feel like an after thought. |

this toon is going AV, is only new though.
Militia Swarms are fine for LAV, but using higher tier does the job more effectively.
Took out a drop ship with a forge gun last night!! Wasn't easy to aim though.
the main problem with going AV seems to be kill stealing ... I can rip thru shields and armor fairly fast, but then someone will steal my kill while the target is on 10% armor and I'm reloading.
Most tank pilots seem to think they are immune, so they make easy targets, the main difficulty is enemy infantry, being that you have to avoid them, and that my sidearm is a SMg with horrible range.
The easiest way to buy time to take out a tank, is to use its large hit box against it. With swarms, you don'tneed to have the whole tank in view to get a lock, so finesse your position so it can't hit you, but you can still get a lock. Once you have that lock you can slip out for the shot, or quickly aim high(or around) to avoid obstacles. Forge guns are far more difficult, but they will be getting a range buff soon(tm) apparently, same principle applies, you don't need to see the whole tank to hit it.

To get an idea how much stock CCP puts on tanks, look at the 2012, DUST 514 - E3 trailer, and count the number of Madrugars that get blown up. (I think 3). Then look at the final scene from 1:45. That is a LOT of tanks... |

Then what happened? They weren't nerfed, yet they started dying, fairly easily too. Even at the end of the previous build, where only a few highly skilled tank drivers really did well in tanks, the AV crowd were still QQ about tanks being OP, because they couldn't solo kill them easily.
Wait and see before crying about needing nerfs. There are really only a handful of players fielding tanks, and they are doing well at the moment, soon you'll see people speccing into high end AV gear, and a nerf is no longer needed. |

Before you defend CCP do the math. A Prototype AV guy will cost around 350K to field proto swarms do 1500 base+a maximum of 37% so roughly 2000 dmg per swarm, (if all the missles hit, which in this build they are slighty idiotic.) Proto AV nades do about 2000 a pop....
So three people on a tank can do roughly 6000 HP if they all jump the tank at the same time....and the tank has to be standing still...once the tank takes some damage he will simply drive away, throw on a shield rep and heal up while the the rocket guys inside kill the AV guys...
I am not even considering the 40% reduction most tanks run with...On top of that, AV guys are pretty weak to Run and Gunners, which could just pop out of the tank and kill the 3 AV guys. AV has always taken groups, in any build no one could solo a proto tank, and they shouldn't have to.....Now however they are making it to where the tank driver has to be a complete dolt to die....tanks move fast enough to where they cannot be chased on foot.
Other factors to tanks superiority is that they have no range limit to their weapons, unlimited ammo,(which wasn't bad until they nerfed the nanohive.) I still think the nerf to forge guns was the biggest mistake of all. |

what build you where playing the only reasion the tanks started poping was everyone was getting top level AV gear to take out midright tanks, if you come across a well fitted tank you where toast end off.
now you have to work just to kill tier 1 let alone tier 2 and 3s |

The current problem is av nerf, ccp did this to test something then is undoing it.
Apparently not enough tanks are killing other tanks for their data, so they rigged it so infantry can't kill the tanks so more tanks kill each other.
So, fastest way to restore balance is to use a tank to kill other tanks till ccp have the data. Then they'll give us back av weapons that work.
A tank battle test warning somewhere in game would have prevented much rage, I had to search to find the explanation of av nerf. |
