I tested it and it seems to be heavy weapon sharpshooter to lvl 3 gives my forge about 200 meters. It is not far at all. The breach forge is worthless with that range.
For helping against tanks with a heavy suit being so slow and vulnerable the forge seems a poor choice. If there are any success stories with forges this build I would love to hear and learn from them. The only use I have found is killing unmanned installations. But it is risky because they shoot back and hurt.

The forge gun was neutered into oblivion, range wise. It is close to useless unless you're planning on really specializing. I'm still focusing on them because they are terrifically fun and very few things are more satisfying than blowing a dropship that thinks it is invulnerable out of the sky. Its a shame that right now dropships can literally hover just outside my range raining death upon my teammates while I stand there, impotently waving my GIANT EPEEN around :( |

The assault forge does best for me. Breach is really ruff to use, its just so CC, I get thats what the breach weapons are about. Maybe we will get maps in time that will let us get so close to a tank.
Tank kills: Player should get kill/SP for tanks that just burn up...about to get final hit on tank, burn dmg hits, I get assist from driver nothing else b/c the fire got the kill?
Dropship Kills: Dropships should blowup midair. tanks dont get time if at 0 armor/shield. why do dropships have to hit the ground first, just gives everyone time to jump...look if its on fire jump b4 its at 0. |

If you're trying to solo a target... then yes specialization may be an issue, but if you are group-targeting something specialization may as well be moot in the Forge field. |

Maybe with Forge Gun Prof. we get +3% range vs. the dmg that it now gives, or another -3% charge time ( breach really is a pain)
Let us move with breach, just a little
Hell would a large proto sniper not put a paper scout on its but, you let them move :) |

Doc: On one of my alts I tried the forge at L5 proficiency and my results were kitten it! despite my being heavy smg forge user all last build. |

Thanks Tech,
I will not skill anymore to it. I was a heavy user last build. But here the application challenges me. Awesome hills and buildings but no matter because the tanks has to sit under them for me to get a hit with the distance "adjustment". |

breach forge gun is amazing. especially the prototype. was able to 2 shot a gunlogi, 1 shot an RDV, and take out 3 LAVs in a sinlge game.
takes a good bit of specing into tho, and have to be fine with dying a good bit since you are an easy target and once the tank sees you and starts shooting at you, you are going to die.
assaut forge is def more useful tho as can be used on infantry, and is much easier to hit LAVs. also the charge time is much faster so can get more shots on a tank before it leaves the area.
trick to using the forge gun is setting up a dropsuit to take a ton of damage. currently have type-I heavy with 1100 armor. still dies a lot especially from infantry, but can take a few missiles from a gunlogi.

Thanks for the info, But as you said you will die a lot. Tanks care little about your HP. IMO a scout last longer because of the speed. One shot kills almost all infantry, if you can take two you are probably so slow you will take those two hits before you can leave harms way...resulting in a death as well. |

Know what's hilarious? People (read, three guys) were kittining about how the Forge was too long range and too accurate last build (read, effective at antitank and could kill a still human sized target 1 out of 5 times), which probably lead to the nerf because of how many kitten threads they made (we were kittening SWAMPED by them).
Am very glad i abandoned my Forge/SMG setup from last build to grab the newly functional Logi, because staying the course seems to have been a dumb idea, if any of these Forge users of Precursor are to be believed. |

Who at CCP worked out the physics behind the weapons? I would have thought that any mass traveling at over 7000m/s (according to the description) would leave big holes in anything it hit be it large or small. The Forge Gun is a man portable Rail Gun System after all. |

Get used to cry baby nerfs from ccp since thats all it takes for ccp to @%&! with the stats so the babys stop crying.
I've been playing eve for 9 years with 7 of those years always active and this is still a common occurrence today and showing no sign of changing.

Yeah, CCP, the Forge nerfs are getting a little ridiculous. The gun by default cannot zoom in and is a precision, charging weapon that can only be equipped to the slowest suits in the game. Then the first "balance" made its range no greater than that of a SMG. Now the damaged is reduced so it takes 2 hits with anything but a Prototype variant to take out a militia LAV. If being charged, the heavy suit cannot dodge the vehicle and fire another round. This balance is broken. I do think the AV grenades, if left as a vehicle seeking weapon, needed the nerf. |

Currently the damage from forge guns is too small. Just look at the numbers a proto breach forge gun with all skills (forge gun and weaponry) maxed out against a sagaris only using resistance mods will take less then 1500 damage per shot every 4 sec. Now if I remember correctly most decent Hav drivers had at least 20000 ehp. No matter how I look at it I just don't see the forge gun being a true threat to HAVs at this time. |

1500 is barely enough to take out a militia LAV...it's terrible. |

First of all, they're nerfing ALL AV weapons across the board very soon.
I have been against the nerfing of tanks, but after seeing the glee of tank drivers that AV was being nerfed they're on my list of kitten I don't give a kitten about and as far as I'm concerned they can all go kitten themselves with a rake.
Second, I used forges for two builds and had heavy sharpshooter proficiency level 5 just before the wipe on this build - the range is complete and utter kitten. I was lucky if I could hit a dropship camping on a tower from while directly underneath it.
Add to that the fact that you can't aim while under missile fire and you can just about put a fork in breach forges doing anything of value on the field, let alone Heavy AV in its entirety.

Tanks should be 15x - 20x skills to start if this is the direction they going in. |

There's no way to be diplomatic about this.
This is a stupid move. Tanks dominate the leader boards. Why buff them even further by nerfing the ONLY means by which to take them out?
