So I've been playing for two days now and while there are a lot of things that can and will be improved, the single most important one is the mouse control. You will have A LOT of PC gamers coming over from EVE etc and the current mouse controls won't cut it.
There is only 2 options right now, which is sensitivity (basic) and mouse smoothing. I don't know if this is a bug, but if you turn around right now, that sensitivity is LOWER than when you are in the progress of aiming. That is not acceptable. What you need is a non-capped mouse control with SUPPORT FOR MOUSE ACCELERATION. I notice some really bad negative acceleration with a few mouses and you don't want that in a serious FPS game.
I guess you could have a look at the Quake 3 source code as it's available as open source if you need the basics with yaw, pitch etc. There is no reason not to implement this, and it would seriously make or break the game.

Who do you think is developing this game, a bunch of high-school kids? It's by design that the mouse speed gets reduced while you are turning. I don't like it either, but there is indeed a reason why they made it the way it is. |

Actually they probably were a bunch of high school kids when they started developing EVE and if you would have known CCP for a while you'd never ask that question like that. Don't get me wrong, they are pretty competent and the game ideas are great, but if it better mouse controls aren't built in by now I don't know if they ever will.
If it's by design, it's a stupid design and it should be changed. What is the reason for capping turning speed? For the DS3 people to have a fair chance? |

I guess that's one reason, the other one is that the different drop suits have all different turning speeds. A heavy turns very slow, while scouts turn (and move) much faster. The idea is that scouts can 'speed tank' by simply circling around a heavy. I doubt CCP will change this fundamental game play decision, but like I said, I don't like this speed cap either being a mouse user myself.

My main thing is even with using the mouse controls they have with full sensitivity the turning rate is way too slow. I compared using the DS3 controller to my mouse in the same game, and was quite sad to find I could kill people much easier with the controller than my mouse. If anything this should be the other way around, or at least matched so they are even. |

There is something wrong with the current implementation of mice and the camera turn speed. I've seen a lot of threads about it around the forums. No official word on it, so I don't know if it's CCP playing see no evil hear no evil or if they're working on it but don't want to confirm that it is a problem until they know for sure.
Either way, I agree, mouse control is broken in its current state. I play with the controller for now, but once mouse control is fixed, may as well throw the DS3 in the garbage because its worthless... well except to navigate to Dust 514 in the PS3 menu so maybe not the trash can. |

this is the first build with M/K support isn't it? give it more time, they wont leave the turn speed so broken. same goes for move scoping |

Otherwise it will slow down your mouse sensitivity. |

My biggest issue is not the turning speed even if the explanation with the classes makes some sense. I think it's enough with movement speed capped. In a FPS the mouse controls should not work against you.
While setting the sensitivity to around 4/10 gives a good overall movement speed, aiming on middle/long distance is really hard (you want to go for those headshots :). What we need is an acceleration setting so that when you're aiming slowly the cursor is more accurate. I can't stand playing with the DS3 but from what I noticed it has a better balance in this regard that is easy getting used to. I realize that the game is not as aim heavy as FPS games I used to play, but it would still be great if some more love was given to the mouse settings.
Ideally, an acceleration setting for non-zoomed and the same for zoomed mode. It can even be relative speed (as in faster on a closer combat weapon, slower on a sniper), as long as you can tune it to your liking. |

Capping turning speed is a physical limitation. No one in a bulky dropsuit can turn around lightning fast. Don't come here if you're expecting some cheap tricks to help you get by. Its as it should be, with everyone on the same level to start out with. If you're good enough you won't need to have that extra turning speed. |

Totally agree. Mouse sensitivity while scoped in on most weapons is way to high, almost the same as when not scoped. On the other hand, sensitivity on the tactical AR scope is so low that you can't follow any target unless you set the sensitivity to maximum in the settings. Wich in turn makes it impossible again to use any other weapon while scoped in. I don't know if this is what CPP intended, but I hate it and I don't think it makes any sense. |

ok, so the arguement has been made that is could represent the abilities of the drop suits. now this makes sense.
however....scaleability is a big deal. there is a sensitivity (which is a tad slow at full but hey) but there is a cap on the max movement. it feels really unnatural i think.
imagine if you will (i am here assuming that suits react 1to1, rather than there be mechanical things in between) that you have two people in a heavy suit for example. now, we all know the heavy suit isnt all that quick, or not supposed to be anyway. however, two different soldiers have a chance of having different physical conditions. now, the person who is the slightly stronger of the two would be able to get more from the suit, mobility-wise. pushing the suit to its limits you know.
now transfer this to the mouse. those who are more swift, more accurate and agile with the mouse should be able to utilise their skills. yes, have the different suits with different sensitivity, but no max motion cap. just scale it properly and it would work really well. have the motion cap is unnatural. i mean the human body is only limited by the person wielding it. that body has its resistances and reaction flaws. for example, not all fat people are slow. some are a lot faster than other. i mean in the world of martial arts, Sammo hung has more control of his body that a lot of fat people i have ever heard of....you know? of course this would apply to all of the suit types, both present and future, with varying scalable sensitivity to the controls.
we are super soldiers, and constantly pushing ourselves beyond our limits. it makes sense.....in my mind anyway :) |

I only use KB/M when sniping as that's what its only good for and then just swap over back to using the DS3 when selecting a different drop suit. I really hope CCP improves on the mouse in the near future. If not, then they be better off just scraping the whole KB/M feature in its entirety and spending more time developing and honing the support for PS Move. |
