So I've been playing for two days now and while there are a lot of things that can and will be improved, the single most important one is the mouse control. You will have A LOT of PC gamers coming over from EVE etc and the current mouse controls won't cut it.
There is only 2 options right now, which is sensitivity (basic) and mouse smoothing. I don't know if this is a bug, but if you turn around right now, that sensitivity is LOWER than when you are in the progress of aiming. That is not acceptable. What you need is a non-capped mouse control with SUPPORT FOR MOUSE ACCELERATION. I notice some really bad negative acceleration with a few mouses and you don't want that in a serious FPS game.
I guess you could have a look at the Quake 3 source code as it's available as open source if you need the basics with yaw, pitch etc. There is no reason not to implement this, and it would seriously make or break the game.

Actually they probably were a bunch of high school kids when they started developing EVE and if you would have known CCP for a while you'd never ask that question like that. Don't get me wrong, they are pretty competent and the game ideas are great, but if it better mouse controls aren't built in by now I don't know if they ever will.
If it's by design, it's a stupid design and it should be changed. What is the reason for capping turning speed? For the DS3 people to have a fair chance? |

My biggest issue is not the turning speed even if the explanation with the classes makes some sense. I think it's enough with movement speed capped. In a FPS the mouse controls should not work against you.
While setting the sensitivity to around 4/10 gives a good overall movement speed, aiming on middle/long distance is really hard (you want to go for those headshots :). What we need is an acceleration setting so that when you're aiming slowly the cursor is more accurate. I can't stand playing with the DS3 but from what I noticed it has a better balance in this regard that is easy getting used to. I realize that the game is not as aim heavy as FPS games I used to play, but it would still be great if some more love was given to the mouse settings.
Ideally, an acceleration setting for non-zoomed and the same for zoomed mode. It can even be relative speed (as in faster on a closer combat weapon, slower on a sniper), as long as you can tune it to your liking. |
