EVEtards love this stuff.
FPS players don't and wont stay.
EVEtards will then get bored with noone to kill in their shiney tanks an go back to EVE.

Alot of the points are hogwash. How is the skill system too complex? Its an MMO guy. This isnt your typical FPS. Your not going to be buying another Dust game a year from now. This game will be running for years to come. Do you really think you can play multiple years on a more simplistic skill system? No, you will get bored pretty quick. Therefore I believe the more complex the better. In depth is what we need. If anything the game is too shallow. But theres still a lot that says soon so I bet its gonna be pretty crazy. Perfect replacement for MAG. Thank you CCP for this sweet game. Keep up the great work and ideas. And dont listen to the naysayer hosers that think everything should be made the way they want. No offense. |

ur problem is that you compare it too much to FULLY DEVELOPED games to start with, second, you compare it too much with other FPS-games, third, right now there's only one planet so 1 set of maps, EVE-Online contains thousands of planets actualy controlled by players!
the game is great, i can't wait till the full release. you want a cheap FPS? go play counter-strike !
and i bet you mostly whine about it cause you can't jut get every skill to max in a weekend.
this game and EVE-Online i for people with brains and skill.
keep up the good work CCP, dust 514 is the best FPS i played (and i've played alot of different ones) and its not even fully developed, i'm getting a boner just of thinking towards the full release !!! |

If the game doesn't appeal to Johnny Bro-shooter, I won't miss his presence. Just like if EVE doesn't appeal to Mary WoW-player I won't miss her either. CCP games are not designed to appeal to everyone, but to a certain type of player, and EVE has shown that there are enough of that type of player to keep that game growing steadily for about 10 years. I think DUST will be the same way. Almost everything the OP complained about are things I like, except for obvious things like crashing (it's a beta) and the aforementioned driving controls. Too bad dust 514 isn't on pc then huh? |

Maybe it's the depth? Or perhaps the satisfying gunplay? or perhaps the slower and more tactical combat? rpg elements?
Many modern online fps games just seem boring run 'n gun fests where random players rush aimlessly in random directions hoping to get some frags before they get killed by backstab or some dude who just happened to have faster reflexes than he did. Respawn repeat and in the end whine/brag about your K/D or Points.
Not to mention that often in those games it doesn't really matter what weapon you use, as long as it shoots bullets. basically only the firerate and damage seem to vary while range is generally 5m or the end of the world.
agreed. starhawk lasted a week for me. and i have never been a fan of cod/bf. its just running and gunning.

Most of my skills don't actually boost my Militia fits capabilities, and I seem to be doing just fine against higher tier suits. The only thing carebearish about this game right now are tanks. They're like giant carebear taxi's. |

I'm not a eve player, been playing shooters online since Q1 and it took me few minutes to figure this game out, I like the skill system and the market. Sure, the hit detection can be a little off from time to time but I still remember my old 56k modem when you had to aim a few meters ahead, where you thought someone would end up. So here is one FPS player who likes the game. |

I find myself leading a lot with my shotgun actually, part of it I think is hit detection, it's been wonky for shotguns since the beginning. Also, as you skill up shotgun operation, your bullet spread gets tighter and more accurate. |

And I think the thing I am waiting most for is the persistent OWNERSHIP of things. We don't even have conquest yet and that is where this game will really shine.

Omera Trenaric wrote:Ok, first off I'm a FPS player, once I heard of Dust I was really excited, this game has a lot of potential, that being said, this game is horrible.
The maps are just open areas of nothing, they are bland and boring, offer no realistic structures or buildings to take advantage of. Graphics are horrible but I put that aside because it's in beta. Vehicle controls are a joke, if I'm driving give me R2 as the accelerator, don't bind steering, breaks, and acceleration bound to one stick. Game constantly crashes. I fail to see the structure of this game, Dust players are supposed to be thrown into an already populated and functioning society, but every time I pick up the controller and start playing it feels like I'm just playing a cheap FPS. You join a game finish and go back to your Quarters, repeat. The upgrades and skills system need to be scaled back or simplified, as a FPS player I don't need to sit around and figure out all this extra crap with stats and 5 pages of useless information for each item. Make it simpler, it can be done and should be done. When you walk why does it seem your trudging threw wet sand.. Hit detection is horrible, I popped off a clip from my pistol right into this guys chest, nothing, so, weapon balance and hit detection need an overhaul. Oh and let us not forget, the marketplace, you can either work for your upgrades or pay for them, turning this game *like so many others* into rich vs poor. Are we so lazy people can't work for their I game upgrades? Bottom line, thus game seems to be a Starhawks ripoff, it doesn't appeal to true FPS fans. In fine tuning this game the craters need to keep in mind that this game is a FPS game not an MMORPG, although they are somehow connected... Meh, it's a shooter game, treat it as such. I'll be back in a week to see if there are anymore patches, only time will tell if this game is thrown on top of the "Cheap First Person Sooter" bargain bin.
What you're experiencing right now is normal, there are going to rough patch's in every release. I hope you reconsider and re-evaluate your conclusions. However Rich vs Poor, There is no benefit for the people who pay. The game will be supported by those who are willing too fork out some extra cash to fix the bug's and glitches for you to enjoy a better game. If you have read any of the articles regarding the PC market you would know that in some cases F2p is a better model as research suggests 93%-95% of games are torrented/pirated.
Personally I would pay monthly for Dust 514, and Eve online.

Well, i agree that its currently unplayable for those of us with a COD standard, but the production game can offer elements to rival that. The mechanics can get better, the levels can be more detailed, the weapons could use more balance, the EWAR:ECM-ECCM could be in-fricking-sane, and the control leaves much to be desired. These things can all be fixed. Hell, game engines can be bought.
But what we have here is the unprecedented ability to incorporate FPS & MMO, and have the effects of one bleed heavily into the other. The MMO is great. The FPS is a work in progress. But it is in progress.
What we've wanted for a long time is around the corner, and although that corner seems a little far off, this project has an excellent foundation.
This product will need to stand on its own as an FPS for people to care. Obviously shooting for the fine tuned-ness of COD is a long shot since the development team hasn't been coding an FPS. First and foremost, this game should stand on its own as an FPS. Maybe not at the top of the FPS class, but it needs to be playable. As soon as that accomplishment is achieved, the integration with EVE will take it into a whole new class of insane where FPS has never been able to go before. Especially if we even see 10% of the ECM concept thread make it to production.
That is, of course, after its playable. I totally agree that the priority of any FPS should be its ability to be addictively playable.
Maybe CCP & Infinity ward could just work together for a little while? hell, give infinity ward the game, let CCP integrate the ECM, ECCM, and all the ridiculous space support elements on the server side, let IW sell the FPS, and let CCP's subscriber base grow off IW's work.
And while I'm dreaming, I think I'll go dream myself up a sandwich. |

Long time EVE player here of about eight years. Dust won't be the best FPS when it releases but that isn't what CCP is making. They are making a unique, complex FPS. This is what CCP does and why they are successful.
CCP will patch the game, as they do with EVE adding content, equipment, and gameplay features. Micro transaction is proven and will provide enough income to provide continued development. In the end, this will be the game many people choose above all others.
As I've said in other threads, thank you CCP. |

The depth and complexity is what makes this game better than others. Back that up with good functioning fps mechanics and that's a good start. Add in persistent ownership of planets and planet side production where the extractors or factories effect map layout then hell yes. Put in missions like eve or signatures and mining and salvage like eve but in areas with drone npcs fighting you and combine that all together and this game will definitely be around for years and kick as.
More skills giving bonuses to more things and more modules is what we need. Suit worn shield boosters that can be toggled from the grenade button, active scanners, sensor boosters to buff lock on time ewar to mess with reps afterburners and micro warps on vehicles, taking enhancers to increase suit turn speed Shield reps, cargo hold expanders to increase ammo capacity. Salvaging modules for salvaging in horde modes or tank wrecks, webs to put on an interdictor suit to slow down shotgun guys also to give your forge gun a better shot or Web mines to slow enemy on a flank.
That's what this game needs, not simplicity, not cod fanboys looking for space cod. Learn dust and enjoy it for the things that make dust awesome our go back to your boring kdr **** fests that already exist |
