Hi guys,
You may have noticed that hardly anyone seems to use team mics anymore in match! There's a couple reasons for that, and once you jump through a couple hoops in settings you will be able to get mics going.
1) First, if you havent done so - turn mic on in options -> sound. here you can also set press to talk, i usually keep that off. 2) Next, squad up. If you want to have mics only within your squad, you can leave the settings as they are and play a match together. HOWEVER, if you want to speak to your team, your squad will have to click the TEAM button and then click ACTIVATE VOICE. After the match, you have to ACTIVATE VOICE again on your squad once you are back in your quarters.
It's not the most intuitive system, but once you get the hang of it, it's fine.
Let's get some more teamwork!
It means more revives, more points captured, more tanks destroyed and more kills! |

sure you might get 1 decent random every 5 matches but it's not worth it to waste time on them..

It's true, it's hard to run into a random on the mic, but that's only because no one knows that they need to activate team chat. it was not communicated at all... ironic.

The whole voice thing svcks.
lets be fair a simple all in voice would be a better choice, no messing around in menus etc etc, just straight up join match voice works for all in that gang. i dont mean squads i mean all on your side.
only needs the gang fc and the squad fc's + scouts to be talking on coms. scouts feed battle info and targets to FC, FC makes choice sends commands to squad leaders and thats it.
chat is a ghost town i mean hell i am giving battle and target info to myself. nobody else in coms, no mics active.
what with the ghost town on coms and the constant invalid bug / system crash, its a wonder why we try to test dust in the first place, im just waiting for CCP to add sign language, or little red flags to wave and get team mates attention on the battlefield |

Good information, but I'll turn my team chat on when i feel like there's at least a decent chance of going 5 minutes without hearing some obnoxious guy spewing out narrow-minded, offensive chauvinism --- in other words, when hell freezes over. Until then squad chat is good enough for me. |

As an added observation, a few times while playing today the mics would cut out for no apparent reason, what was happening is that the push to talk option was becoming switched back to ON. Easy fix but something to keep an eye out for. |

Also PTT doesn't work outside of squad anyway so you have to turn off in any case and use the one built in your mic. |

Just so we are clear here, you actually default to the team channel when you run as a solo. If you are not careful you will end up joining a squad and give them an in-valid glitch with a 90% chance by the next game for someone in that group. |

if they're running around in circles dying and not coordinated at all.. they're a random. if there camping in the mountains and getting 0/5 every game.. they're a random.
i will sometimes cry out "look out guys, this enemy team is not 'randoms'!" and I will also call out, "this 'blue' is not a random guys, lets put that 'blue' on our waiting list!" sometimes they accept our squad invite when a spot opens up.. if they don't, we move on with our lives..
but for the last week %90 of the time the blues have been randoms, and it's not worth the headache of having to listen to their random crap on our mics
not only that but you risk getting a comms bug if you switch chat channels from squad to team in the middle of a match.. it's just not worth it to me and my squads to deal with..
sry if that offends ppl,
actually i'm not it just makes me sound nice
and Krip Prime, if you're tired of running with randoms and wanna try out one of our squads you're welcome to. if you don't like it we don't harass you for leaving it like some are known to do (lust4dust) we just go on with our lives and wish you the best after you leave our squad and hope you are mature enough to handle rejection (we care more about your attitude and mic etiquette than your score/KDR)
we're not a corp, just a bunch of random guys who have added each other to contacts because we're tired of playing with bad randoms and getting 1 out of 5 games maybe that don't suck..
and we're also tired of elitists who fail to drop uplinks and insist on random spawning or who flex their epeens to us on random team games.. so we have decided to boycott it all and form our own squads, if that makes us bad guys or bad players then i guess we are, but we do things our own way despite the unwritten rules.
the term random is not meant as a derogratory it's just the term we use to describe the player on the field who is not coordinated and is not worth the risk for us to stretch our necks out to, they'll just despawn anyway if we try to revive them or take off sprinting when we try to repair them. their failure to play as a team is not worth it to us. |

Never happens to me, i can always change in the quarters.
But yeahh i do this everygame, but many times it's best to keep your squad in it's own comms to allow more solid squad work.
with team active, you can lose squad mates cause they hear where the blue dots are. |

Apparently the keyboard PTT key (Z) does not work. Pressing it it won't let your team hear you
The controller PTT key still works, though, v0v
so if you're pc gaming master race either turn free mic on or put the controller at your feet and use your toe to PTT |

I hear where ur comin from Baggins. Idk if you got into the recent Ghost Recon debocle or not but its a perfect example of what you are saying about coordinated gameplay. A lot of KDR buffing and lone wolfing (usually resulting in a data hack for the opposing team) instead of hacking objectives FTW. Seriously pi$$ed me off plenty of times. But once in awhile i'd run into somebody worth throwing out an add to.
Far as the Mics go I have been seeing the same thing. Ive only recently started playing (10 matches or so) but Ive never heard anybody using voice. This thread should help. The Mic system does seem a bit overly complicated. I can't imagine using the PTT system. Maybe it was designed for people with an extra finger on their left hand lol. Im deffinately interested in finding some players to roll with. I see great potential for this game. |

Yep.
I turn mic on for Corp. squads or if I'm on a team with someone I want to talk too. Other than that, I leave it off, no pt. trying to inform people what they are doing wrong or how to "play". They won't listen.
Although... I have been frustrated enough with 9 people staying at A and not moving on C (3 base map) when noone was there to get on a mic and ask WTF... got silence.
