Well, in EVE the gyrostabilizers only effect projectile weapons, and the ballistic control units are for missiles.

I had the same situation happen to me, however different result. However, I did get to the Skillpoint/ISK/Salvage screen (0SP, ~90k ISK, some salvage). I was able to return to the merc quarters, but the game was unresponsive from that point on. ...

Increasing shield capacity should increase signature radius. IMO - natural shield regen should be very slow - several minutes for full recovery like in EVE.
