Quite frankly, the vehicle controls since precursor suck. The jeeps are less responsive, the tanks even harder to steer and the dropships... The dropships are simply unusable. I bought one just to get to a nice sniper perch on top of one of the towers and almost killed myself just trying to get there. After inverting the dropship and almost crashing into the ground, I got it up to the top of a tower and almost crashed it just trying to land. Please, please, please, bring back the old vehicle control schemes. They were more intuitive and easier to control |

LAVs I can get used to, they aren't too bad to drive if you don't go full throttle all the time.
The tanks are fine although I wouldn't mind a bit quicker turn rate.
The dropships are near impossible to fly which is probably why you don't see many flying around. I got good enough to land with quite a bit of difficulty but nobody will get in to man the guns - probably because it's extremely hard to fly level in a straight line. |

Dropships take real player skill to fly, but it can be learned. You wouldn't expect to hop in a helicopter gunship and fly to the top of the Sears tower, would you? By the same token you could hop into a real tank with no instruction and not kill yourself because it's both close to driving a car, it moves slow, and you can just stop when you lose control.
I like the way dropships model real physics and how pilots who train up will be valuable in the future. Want a ride to the top of that tower? Ask and I'll give you a lift. |

I feel that the previous control model was fine going with the Mantra of "if it's not broke, don't fix it." It may be realistic, but it also must be fun. Dropships are expensive, and rightly so, which means that it would be no fun IMHO to blow up a handful of them just trying to learn to fly them when the previous controls were fairly intuitive and easy to pick up. As Stile451 said, if you can't get people in them because they are so hard to fly, they aren't worth much on the battlefield. |

Militia DS's are only 150k, and if you ate careful about your initial flight training you shouldn't break more than three or four.
I'm going to write up a flight training manual next week when I'm off on vacation that should help prospective pilots master the ships faster and less expensively. Keep in mind though, a decent non-militia DS is going to cost you significant SP to skill into. It's going to take time to get battle effective and you can master the controls by that time. Don't think of these things like LAV's |

Or we could go back to DS bumper cars of the previous build so the LAVs run you over on the flats and DSs squash you everywhere.
If you are annoyed by all the joyriding LAV drivers just remember what we had to put up with before. I'm sure the skill required is cutting down on that. |

Aircraft should be equal parts character skill and player skill. It should be hard to fly the things, and once mastered the controls should allow you to pull some impressive maneuvers. I believe the current setup allows for this, and while it may need a little fine tuning, they should stay how they are. |

One really easy fix would have been to make "hard landings" with DS do armor damage. Heck have all vehicles hitting walls take armor damage, even when running people over at high speeds. |

I'd say that's working as intended. They're not sniper spot transportation taxis. Only someone who practices with them should be able to fly them effectively.
They're not unusable at all--they're actually more maneuverable. It just requires some practice. I think it's good that Joe Sniper can't just hop in one and fly himself up to wherever anymore with no practice or training. |

The vehichles aren't impossible to use, they just require more skill. I've been practicing with dropships and I can now provide valuable services for my team. Is it expensive? Yes. Difficult? Yes. Impossible? No. The only thing I would like to see changed is the jeeps. Having acceleration and deceleration separate from the joystick would be nice. |

^^^^ This.
DUST is supposed to be about specialization. Why should flight be easy or free for a ground soldier? I think a lot of the DS fight physics complaints are coming from games where there is only one role, that of shooter, and every bit of equipment is there for his use. Their reasoning is that as a simple addon to the shooter it should be easier to use, and that would be a valid point if that were the intent. However if you decide that piloting is going to be a battlefield role to equal to the shooter then DS's should not be easily used throw away items in the shooters inventory. |

I've found that the LAV is a *lot* easier to drive with a keyboard. With the keyboard I'm able to steer around obstacles instead of doing doughnuts and backflips. |
