Dropships take real player skill to fly, but it can be learned. You wouldn't expect to hop in a helicopter gunship and fly to the top of the Sears tower, would you? By the same token you could hop into a real tank with no instruction and not kill yourself because it's both close to driving a car, it moves slow, and you can just stop when you lose control.
I like the way dropships model real physics and how pilots who train up will be valuable in the future. Want a ride to the top of that tower? Ask and I'll give you a lift. |

Militia DS's are only 150k, and if you ate careful about your initial flight training you shouldn't break more than three or four.
I'm going to write up a flight training manual next week when I'm off on vacation that should help prospective pilots master the ships faster and less expensively. Keep in mind though, a decent non-militia DS is going to cost you significant SP to skill into. It's going to take time to get battle effective and you can master the controls by that time. Don't think of these things like LAV's |

Or we could go back to DS bumper cars of the previous build so the LAVs run you over on the flats and DSs squash you everywhere.
If you are annoyed by all the joyriding LAV drivers just remember what we had to put up with before. I'm sure the skill required is cutting down on that. |

^^^^ This.
DUST is supposed to be about specialization. Why should flight be easy or free for a ground soldier? I think a lot of the DS fight physics complaints are coming from games where there is only one role, that of shooter, and every bit of equipment is there for his use. Their reasoning is that as a simple addon to the shooter it should be easier to use, and that would be a valid point if that were the intent. However if you decide that piloting is going to be a battlefield role to equal to the shooter then DS's should not be easily used throw away items in the shooters inventory. |
