In the overview map, squad leaders should be able to map out routes for their members to follow in addition to setting targets to either attack or defend.
Leaders would be able to draw out these routes using either the right analog stick, PS Move, or by right click and dragging the mouse in a fashion similar to the paint tool in Photoshop or even MS Paint. Once the route is created, it is displayed to the rest of squad on the radar, and as thin, glowing path on the battlefield. Leaders have the option to delete the route, extend it, or change it's parameters (such as curves). Squad members have the option of choosing whether they want the route to be displayed or not. To make the path visible in certain lighting moods, the squad leader should also have the ability to change the color of the path to be displayed.
This will help squad leaders organize their team more efficiently, especially those without a mic or those who wish to be as specific as possible. :) |

It would be cool to be able to access this pre-battle, once the map is visible pre-battle. Especially if the route was then rendered on the "table map" |

Cool ideas, +1 tot he first 2 posts in this thread.
Not sure how viable curves would be with the sixaxis controller, but it's still an awesome suggestion, and you could draw straight lines just by marking start and end points easily enough. |

I think the easiest way to implement something like this would be via a waypoint system, with the waypoints labeled numerically as they're placed.
A solid idea, +1 |

Waypoints could work as well! Once a line is drawn, you can then "trace" it, marking waypoints at select intervals or nodes. These intervals could also have side notes left by the leader either entered via the keyboard/virtual keyboard, or from a pre-select list (To prevent abusing the system). The pre-made list of notes could range from... - Pause here - Scout for enemies - Call a LAV here and etc.
If curved lines are too much, possibly simple vectors would be a nice alternative to the aforementioned free form route? All three control methods could utilize a simple "Start/End" vector system for making routes. Each route could generate points or nodes at pre-made intervals to define curves in the route.
The entire system I had in mind was similar to the Indie game: Frozen Synapse, a top down RTS (Search it up, it's pretty neat). The difference being you're guiding actual players, not commanding A.I bots. |

I think for MCC marking stuff for each squad like this would be better. |
