ok maybe a sore subject.
i have been reading about the sniper spoil my game etc etc, and yes as a sniper i do have a small unfair advantage. i dont want to cause a big hooha storm so hers my idea.
when a sinper rifle is discharged it produces plasma ( railguns use electric to produce plasma) this is produced from the railguns inner workings and the shell ejected by plasma. this plasma discharge should be shows as a light blue hue muzzle flash.
now this muzzle flash gives us snipers away. a good sniper will de-camp so often and replace himself away, from where last shot was taken. i decamp fairly often, and when am spotted make a beeline for a new vantage point.
so yes i do think as a sniper i have a slightly unfair advantage. but a muzzle flash would give away my location. and allow ya'll to know where we are roughly. i think its a fair request. and will not impact much on a snipers main goal, as a second pair of eyes and as a covert recon scout. |

Something like that to figure out where sniper fire is coming from is something needed for how large some of the maps can be. Especially if they ever add in lay down option with crouch! |

I was confused as to which side of the argument you are on, as it stands I no that I can see a sinper muzzle flash from quite far away not to mention with a good set of head phones it is not hard to tell which direction the sniper fire is coming from. |

Greetings,
Mr TamiyaCowboy wrote:but a muzzle flash would give away my location. and allow ya'll to know where we are roughly. Ummm, if you have your brightness levels set correctly, you can already see the Sniper's muzzle flash... This is how I find Snipers to counter snipe as it is. Notice I am saying 'Correctly' and not 'Max'.

Sniper muzzle flash is already in the game, it is fairly large(longer than the gun), and it is light blue. Watch other snipers to see it.
Nobody looks for it. |

Nobody looks for it. I do, and I'm a sniper. The only time I don't see/hear a sniper rifle before it kills me is when they're far, far away (as it should be). And while it's frustrating to be taken down by someone you can't see/hear, I have to give them props for their good aim. |

As said, muzzle flash exists.
If you want to see the sniper before you die, well, don't go alone and make sure to keep moving. Your slow-moving buddy will draw fire for you, and then you know what direction to avoid.
Also, remember the game is far from done. Both programming wise AND skill wise of the players.
Once people realize that the airships and vehicles have an extended 'enemy acquisition' range and start using it, you'll see more fast vehicles and dropships going after snipers.
In addition, there is 'sensor boosting equipment' that's not in the game yet. Stuff that will increase the range at which enemies are tagged, in the form of active and deployable equipment. That will make things much easier, especially if a small crew of guys goes out in an LAV and drops them in key areas.
Finally, best help is snipers working in pairs. If you zoom in one a target for a second, it'll light them up with that red chevron enemy indicator graphic. That's not just on your screen, but on your entire team's. So if you see one appear for awhile and then disappear, one of your buddies might have scope him out. You might want to avoid that direction on foot, or go fetch a vehicle and rat him out. |

I think one of the main issues with the sniper is that current ARs in DUST are blaster teck which is quite short range and appears to have a wall at which it cant shoot past mabye when better guns with more range perhaps minnie guns with good fall off or rail with mental range then snipers cant just hide out of our range, dont get me wrong i dont want AR to be able to out snipe a sniper just give them a reason to get there head down and if they dont they deserve to get it aired out. |

Generally I can see snipers just fine. It's just that there are three of them shooting me from different directions at any given time.
Personally I'd suggest that anyone who uses the sniperrifle should automatically be ranked as the worst player of the match. So at the bottom of the matchmaking pool there'd be a bunch of snipers harassing each other while the fun players can have matches without any interference. |

You can see a flash after a shot from a sniper. Admitedly more when all of a sudden you look to the hills and you see the flash as you start to bleed out.
But Thats a snipers job, and their best defence. To be unseen. Which they really cant accomplish that well anyway, They are made of paper as it is.
If you are hacking or in a group fire fight you cant pay attetion to a snipers flash most of the time anyway, can ya?
All you really need to do is look at the map once in a while.
Leave us Snipers alone. : lol |

You can't see snipers because you're an idiot who haven't realised yet why there's a lone chevron sitting on a mountain hill ... Can't be that hard to figure it out why someone would be sitting there far far away from the action oh my could that be a sniper oh my |

Doink! Snipers can only snipe if they see you! Its a straight line! Use your map and look for that little red dot in an obscure corner of the map. Thats your sniper. Now run behind him and shoot him in his head or knife him in the back! |

This isn't Halo. Trails have no place here because our guns aren't of the 0 recoil automatic kill variety.
If anything snipers need ways of being UNseen because Chevrons are BS when you're skilled up to DS Command level 5 and someone can still wink over you and light you up for the whole map. |

A NON-skilled player won't light you up from across the map even if they have you lined up and the red marker on their reticule - you won't get a target marker for them either, just the red point in the middle of their screen to show your position.
I'm pretty sure that being scoped in makes a difference as well, although I haven't tested that properly this build (it helped last time around). |
