Depends. What do you want to do as a scout? Are you a sniper? Infiltrator? Saboteur? Perhaps a close quarter specialist? It's up to you honestly to define yourself as a "scout". I'm a front line runner. I'm at the objective taking it, or defending it. I'll attack an enemy even if it means just to buy time, or subdue the enemy and run out the time. I have no qualms of dying. So as I pointed out it is all about your own personal prefrence.

Keep in mind, the scout is not a class. It is a dropsuit with different strengths and weaknesses. So, how you decide to play in that suit is exactly how to "play as a scout". It's all up to you.
Case in point, I snipe more in a logistics suit than I do in a scout suit. I like the extra equipment. Drop uplink lets me respawn at my perch if an enemy sniper catches me, and the nanohive keeps the ammo coming. Last build I would drop REs around my platform and lure dropship pilots who were trying to squish me. |

Over exaggeration, and a gross one at that. If anything I have seen three times as many Assault and Logistic suits on the field then anyone else at the moment. People just want to see what they want to see. Especially if it makes complaining and excuses easier. |

I prefer using the scout suit for a anti-vehicle build. Quick in and out punches on tanks. |

Well I have gotten two matches in, and I can say I have seen a huge flux of both logistics, and assault class suits. Granted that a lot of players have access to the Dragonfly [nSv] scout suit (myself included), but I have found heavy players using their Toxin SMG with their heavy class and not the Dragonfly.
I would have enjoyed seeing the MAG outfits again though. Hopefully they make a return. Vain I know, but they were pretty cool. |

Are you referring to the tribute suits that were available alongside the Merc Pack as a one-time deal last weekend? If so then I should point out that the Valor dropsuit is being offered on the marketplace for a high amount of AUR.
PS: does anyone know what the nSv in 'Dragonfly' [nSv] stands for? |

To all the scouts out there: what are the advantages of a scout suit? I haven't really found any in my short time playing as a scoult.
You can sprint faster than an assault, but it's prettys similar, isn't it? (like a difference of 0.7 m/s) So it's not that much faster, but then you lose out on all the armor and shields the assault would have, plus you have less CPU and PG. So, is the only advantage of a scout suit mobility?
It seems like the scout suit is a liability in almost every category, but doesn't make up for it in speed.

Speed, small stature, small radar signature. The Scout is best suited for CQC in cramped quarters, where you can flank the enemy or attack from behind. Don't try to attack an AR head on, or you die. |

Ha, yeah, I'm aware of that. But the strafe speed has been nerfed. Everyone was complaining that the scout was OP in the previous builds, but it was just bad hit detection, as most of us knew. So now, strafing is nerfed, so that doesn't really make the scout stand out. And then the assault is only 10% slower than the scout, so that doesn't make the scout special either. And like I said, with way less PG and CPU, I can't figure out what the role of the scout should be.... |

To be honest, I'm finding my scout to be pretty crappy so far this build. I mained scout last build and quite enjoyed it, but with the reduced isk rewards, slower strafe and even worse lagg than ever, I just can't cut it in a scout suit now. Which is annoying, because I much prefered that playstyle. Now all is does is cost me isk.
On the other hand, my alt is running and gunning with an AR assault and making tons of money and sp. AR is now easy mode. |

I feel the exact same way. I've tried a lot of combos, and last build the scout was a lot of fun. I played a lot of assault sniper, and that was fun too. But now it's almost pointless using the scout suit. You can't run that much faster, I have my sig prof stuff specced and people see me across the map anyway, and an AR is a better sniper rifle than my sniper rifle. Playing a scout is now a money sink hole. |

The idea of speed isn't to literally run in circles around your enemy, but to use speed and cover to get behind your enemy and get the drop on them. The biomass facility is great for that. Early last build I used that tactic as a shotgun scout on that map and would occasionally take out 3 or 4 guys. I'd come out of cover behind some guy and kill him in one or two shots, then run away as his buddies tried to turn around and aim at me. When they started lumbering after me through the crates and vehicles I'd circle around and shoot another one of them in the back.
Scout suits also have an absurdly high shield regen rate, so if you use extenders and regulators you can pop out of cover to shoot at someone then move back behind it when the fire starts coming in. With the regulator your shields start to regenerate almost right away, then when you're back at full a moment later you pop out again and put some more fire on the guy whose shields haven't even come close to regenerating yet. |

This build is more about not being spotted in the first place due to the profile dampening Skillbook and the typical dropsuit command Skillbook which both will reduce the signature profile. Right now, the scout has a problem with the lighting effects or shadow rendering causing it to be seen across the map in brightly lit maps with fog. |

As a sniper I can attest that all suits stand out in fog and make my job a lot easier. (Though it's a double edged sword that makes counter-sniping me just as easy.)
Also, I'm currently sniping as an Assault and it seems to be working better than a Scout suit, since I hardly ever die in a single shot from another sniper rifle which often gives me enough time to escape. Of course once the Ishukone's come out there won't be a difference >_>
If the Scout suit made it harder for me to get the dreaded red arrow on my head and the fog didn't make me easier to spot (rofl) then I'd prefer Scout over Assault. |

Yupp. Sniping as an assault, too. The extra bit of health helps a lot. And this new player shader really is bad for the game currently. I hope it will get fixed soon (although I abuse the hell out of it right now with my sniper rifle). |

I used to roll scout exclusively. SMG run & gun with Swarm Launchers for vehicles. Even with the hit detection issues it was pretty fragile, but it was super easy to escape from a losing battle and then flank your wounded opponent with full shields and the fresh element of surprise.
Now that their speed provides no real benefit in a direct combat situation (they're just as easy to hit as everyone else when they're busy firing back at you, it seems) I've started exclusively using them as a stealthy support class; slipping behind enemy lines with a disposable fitting to hack things or toss drop uplinks. Sometimes, with enough situational advantages, I can get a couple kills in, but generally I have to go on a suicide mission after achieving my sneaky goals in order to respawn as something more combat effective. |

The strafing nerd has made it where scouts can't be played as circle-strafing combat monsters anymore, making them rely on stealth, speed, flanking, etc. You know, the way scouts should be. |
