So I've been playing Dust for awhile now and I have to say that I'm quite addicted, but there is one thing that does bother me. It bothers me that despite buying guns that have different stats, different names, and different fire modes (semi automatic, automatic, burst) that they look exactly the same except for a different paint job. I feel that that's something that needs to be remedied, don't just tell me a gun is better, show me the fruits of my efforts, show me that the gun I worked to get for so long is different. I feel that progression works better when you can visibly see the difference between the guns. Does anyone else share this feeling? And also does anyone know if ccp is considering this? |

This subject has been brought up repeatedly. Full game will have different skins for guns relevant to different races etc. Skins are merely cosmetics and cosmetics don't matter while testing the more important aspects of the game. I don't know why people can't get in their head that this BETA only contains around 10% of what will be in the full release. |

While there is no confirmation I have seen about guns having thier own model variants, you have to understand the ps3 does have limited amount of room to work with and having 5,000 different models of guns and dropsuits isnt going to help our case where as different coloring of the same modle can acheive the same needs and responses at a better resource budget.
The only objects that really do need thier own variatns between types would be vehicles.
For example I definetly want to know if that HAV down there is a blops or a murader or tier 1. |

Borderlands literally has 1000s of basically reskined guns and it's a pretty old game |

To offer an example, when I was in the Tribes: Ascend closed beta, all of the spinfusors used the same model, as did each of the machine gun type weapons. When the game actually launched, each weapon had a unique model. We need to get the technical aspects out of the way first, and then get into visual polish. That's part of why I was surprised that visuals were being improved upon for Precursor, but I suppose I shouldn't jump to conclusions. |

Theres a perfectly logical reason for a slight change in color and stats across guns: The design is licensed to different manufacturers who make their own tweaks and changes. See every AR15 and AK47 varient ever made. |

That doesnt change the fact the hardware its being deployed on is just as old and memory on the ps3 hasnt gotten any larger. |

while its a good example it is a pc game which has more resource budget than the ps3. Dont hold your breath but it would be pleasant if they at least made 'vairants' modeled differently (such as assault types vs breach types) |

But has MW3 melted a ps3 with its raw rendering power?
Any way my point is the ps3 can support a large number of different weapon models and skins. |

Skins and textures are low priority at the moment, and serve no purpose other than aesthetic appeals. Personally, I would prefer that they work on all of the gameplay features first, all of the mechanics. Once they have all of those tightened up and ready for launch, then I would see a reason to start re-skinning guns. Until then, there is not much of a point. |

Lol, totally not what I meant. What I mean is that they could work on other things that are more important than re-texturing and building new models for guns. For example, I am sure that they art guys have been working on map graphics as well, and I can only hope they have been working on the textures for some of the hills I have seen, which look pretty awful. Added to that, I think that many vehicles could do with some more textures so that players can identify between the various kinds of land and air vehicles more so than they have now.
And we must not forget that the next major update for the beta is just around the corner, only a little over a week away. Perhaps CCP has some plans to redo some of the guns, as well as add more in. CCP is far from done in this area. |
