I feel like the gap between the new players and the beta players is going to be bad for this game. Beta players will most likely be better in all skill aspects while the new players will have poor defense and attack, so new players are going to have to deal with a lot of deaths before they will stand a chance. |

we're gonna get our skillpoints and isk taken away before the game goes live.
but even if we didn't, i don't think it would be that game breaking. it's not like all the beta players are gonna get together and conquer planets as one unified entity. a high skillpoint player on one team is likely to end up countered by a high skillpoint player on the other team. so it's a wash.
and then you gotta consider what % of "live" players will the beta testers make up? this might turn into worrying about killing fish by pissing in the atlantic. |

It's not going to be that big of a deal. People have a way of adapting to play styles. Yeah, there is going to be a learning curve for the people just fresh to the game, but like every game that comes out, they will adapt just like everyone who picks up a new game. |

Its a clean slate for everyone on full release dude, everything gets wiped apart from your merc name. All spent aurum gets refunded for one last time too. Whats going to be the REAL challenge is new players having to learn the UI. How to measure skills, which skill accommodate the others most effectively, the balancing of cpu and pg etc. Those who have been playing the beta for awhile will have a distinct advantage in that area, and since the rpg elements play an integral role in the quality of the product that is put out onto the battlefield, that will cause alot of newbies getting pwned early n often! I hope it won't be a deterrent to stick around n learn, n get better for the majority of them, but it definitely will for some. of them. |

LOL what makes you think this batch of Beta players would be a benefit to any fight if they cant even prevent a spawn camp at their own base? |

Won't be a problem, as previously stated, we will all get wiped before official release. I think it will be great fun seeing all the Beta vets runnin around the first few days in their flimsy miltia gear. The only advantage that the vets will have is experience and that could be said about any online game |

Sooo just for fun imagine we're 6months in now (1.5 months since build started). So after 6 months it's fairly reasonable that everyone will be on 10mil SP. Some more, a few less. What about new players then? IMHO try will simply quit. Problem is it will take 2 months to become "decent" like 3-4 mil SP. At that point you start being much more evenly matched. It's something people have mentioned in a few threads. Everyone seems to just enjoy eating noobs too much to be objective about it. 2 months is a long time goin negative.... |

I remember a few weeks ago we were asking for a target range to test effective weapon ranges on. I just wanted to be sure to thank CCP for the update this week. Last night I was able to test AV combat against Surya's and drop ships and I'm quite pleased with the results. I plan to continue testing with the new target range that looks a lot like the skirmish map. |

I wouldn't say the Beta players will be better in ALL skill aspects, but we will have a better understanding of how things work. For instance, if you are comming from another FPS, that portion of the game shouldn't be too difficult to understand for someone new. Or if you are comming from EVE, you will have a better understanding of things like loadouts. A person who comes from a team objective based game will have a better understanding of that aspect of the game. It just depends on where you are comming from.
With that said, there will be a wipe of our ISK / SP / Gear before the game goes live. We get to keep our names, but everything else gets reset back to 0 (if you have merc pack, you get that back as well). So starting out, the only thing that will be a defining factor is how fast a person gets past the learning curve. And next build is bringing skill based matches which will also be in the official release. I have a feeling CCP is probably going to put beta testers in a different skill group for a bit so that the noobies don't jsut get slaughtered.
Now what the beta testers will have is advanced knowledge of game mechanics and wise ways to spend the ISK / SP. Also, we will have more optimal loadouts since we will have a better sense of how to optimize them. But if you are comming from EVE, you will also have advanced knowledge of Loadouts.
I decided to give EVE a try, and even the loadout screen for your ship looks almost identical to the one in DUST. Even the captain quarters are similar to the ones in DUST. Not ever having played EVE, I caught on pretty quick. So for EVE players, the learning curve for various portions of DUST will be close to 0.
Off-topic: I was going through the menu last night, and saw a "tutorials" section under options. Didn't have a chance to try it out, but has that always been there? And if so, how did I miss it? |

Agreed. Hopefully upon release, CCP will have level/team balancing incorporated for high sec. |
