So another question what kind of game do we want? Do we want a complete balanced FPS or a rock paper sissors to the extreme. Do we want a hipfire or ADS game? Do we want fast pace or mild game. what exactly do we want from this game are we looking for a FPS warfare simulator or a match like game.
My balanced I mean every gun/loadout is good and able to handle its self in most situations? Or do we.want AV guys to constantly get owned by assault and tanks to destroy assault and AV destroy tanks, um better question if your an AV guy do you want to be a credible threat to other soldiers?
do we want a game like halo were hipfire is accaurct enough that except for long range theres no point in ads? Or do we want it so you have to aim to kill? My suggestion was making hipfire and ADS viable and allow skills to be trained up to make them near as good as the other(howevere hipfire is alrwady accaurct so it would need to be nerfed and ads buffed before they could be equals)
Just got done watch a match of CoD and well fast paced doesnt do juctice for how my little bro plays. But do we want to be quick and sudden combat or do we want movements to be calm and coordinated foe a more tactically game(protoman tactical doesnt mean slow it means make a active and singular effort to accomplish something)
Do we want a game were vehicles and other heavy implements wage intense battle and we infinrty guys run around supporting them, or do we want a game were tanks and installation provide a unique element to firefights?
Well as tester what kinda game are.we trying to realize here? |

This thread is troll bait. I would like CCP to give me what I was offered: http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2012/04/29/dust-514-promises-to-be-a-game-changer-an-interview-with-ccp-games-ceo-hilmar-petersson Note, throughout that, being a top FPS is #1. I just want what Hilmar wants. We might just not have the same idea of what constitutes AAA FPS. |

---Complete and balanced FPS. But since this will also be an MMO with constant updates, "complete" is just an illusion.
Do we want a hipfire or ADS game? Do we want fast pace or mild game. what exactly do we want from this game are we looking for a FPS warfare simulator or a match like game.
Some hipfire for SMGs and Gatling guns and ADS for assaults and snipers.
My balanced I mean every gun/loadout is good and able to handle its self in most situations? Or do we.want AV guys to constantly get owned by assault and tanks to destroy assault and AV destroy tanks, um better question if your an AV guy do you want to be a credible threat to other soldiers?
Every weapon can handle itself, but only on given situations. Bringing a sniper to a close-combat fight is impractical and so is bringing a shot gun to an open area where you can be killed from a distance.
do we want a game like halo were hipfire is accaurct enough that except for long range theres no point in ads? Or do we want it so you have to aim to kill?
Aim to kill, but for assaults and snipers. It won't make much sense to require someone to go ADS with a shotgun, smg, or Nova knife in very close quarters.
My suggestion was making hipfire and ADS viable and allow skills to be trained up to make them near as good as the other(howevere hipfire is alrwady accaurct so it would need to be nerfed and ads buffed before they could be equals)
See above.
For ambush matches, fast paced is good. But for Skirmish or Corp Battles, calm and coordinated is best.
Do we want a game were vehicles and other heavy implements wage intense battle and we infinrty guys run around supporting them, or do we want a game were tanks and installation provide a unique element to firefights?
Infantry provide effective assistance to vehicles and tanks if coordinated correctly with the help of a corp.
Well as tester what kinda game are.we trying to realize here?
According to CCP, they want to make the game playable for anyone, but want to make an emphasis on the importance of teamwork if they want to make it to the being a part of a power bloc.

I want what a successful amalgam of Battlefield 2 and MAG would be: compelling, fun battlefield FPS focused on tactical teamplay. Medium-paced, skill-based, delicately balanced, allows for rock/paper/scissors mechanics with vehicles and fixed weapons platforms. Accessible so n00bs will be able to get kills, but offering long-term growth for those who want a deeper experience.
Tall order for sure, but the market is there to tap for whoever manages to pull it off. |

Everything that makes EVE so complex and harsh and competitive put into an FPS game.
I know i wont get everything I want, but I want it all with no dumbing down. I dont know why people see the console crowd as such idiots that need their hand held to cross the street.
I want null sec battles with almost no limitations. I would love to see it be possible for more than one group to get involved in any null sec battle and to see two groups fighting it out get attacked by a 3rd group that cause the first two to join together to repel the 3rd, or maybe that 3rd come in to assist either side.
I want to see griefing and sabotage and scams going both ways from DUST and EVE.
I want to see DUST make an impact that causes a bit of a stir and change in the current SOV map. I would love to see one of the alliances use it to their advantage and defend a territory against a force that thought they could beat them, and I want to see a force get help taking a larger entity because they got boots on the ground and got some bonuses to attacking the SOV of their enemy.
I want someone teabagging someone to cause a war!
I want the groups that make an impact in DUST to have reputations and stories told of them the way they are of the major SOV alliances in EVE. I want large groups to rise and fall.
Again, I want it to be complex and competitive and demanding. I think consoles players are not just capable of this, but I think there is a crowd out there demanding it. |

Chances are if I have to dive into spread sheets and take massive amounts of notes likes a second job to play a video game...i wont.
Don't misunderstand, I enjoy the complexities of an MMO as I enjoyed Final Fantasy X and a few others while still being a predominantly FPS/TPS gamer. I enjoy the depth of the beta so far and look forward to some of the rumored additions but as far as getting to the depth of the mechanics of EVE, not sure I would be interested in that.
As for the complexity of corps and alliances and SOV space and grinding out in the sandbox, i am all for that (said in a tone skeptically as in the "careful what you wish for" saying).

I wrote the following in the clan vs corp thread:
I think in the short term there wont be any damage done from dust players to eve players and vice versa until the game is fully integrated and that may take some time. In the mean time that will give dust players a chance to bone up on the various mechanism of eve and maybe look into the political aspects to.
I assume that EVE players do respect the amount of talent that the hardcore FPS crowd have particularly the ones who run in clans and work as teams as well as being individually excellent. The reason I make this assumption is all the types of spies supposedly being planted in clans at the moment.
A possible counter to some of the huge amounts of resources that the largest corps and alliances have may be the gorilla tactic of hiring elite dust teams to sabotage resources behind enemy lines etc. I would imagine being able to overtake ground assets and the like for surface to space fire may cause allot of damage to both planet-side and orbital assets.
In addition well trained and equipped teams may make taking back the planet costly in time and resources to.
This type of thing would be very interesting because if dust players can have this type of impact then the possibility of securing a relatively safe place to port into to conduct space warfare behind enemy lines will add another dimension to eve. Not only will this put value on dust(ites) but bring another level of strategy to the eve universe.
I would like that type of intergration eventually.
As for mechanics I would like to be able to play the type of game I chose. If I want to play a fast CQC gun game I can go scout cqc specalist for example.
In fact I would say the game should be about what you need in order to win. Some games should be wars of attrition where tatcitcs, skill and even luck are needed to win. Others should be about executing perfect plans (squad of scouts) to get in surprise the enemy and capture and blow **** up before anyone knows whats going on.
What I want most of all is not to have a chance even if your resources are finite that if you have a good plan can surprise the opposition you can get results even against proto gear.
What I don't want is that a dust corp with near infinite resource backing and have all proto equipment mean that they have an instant I win in any situation. While they should have the edge even a significant one. They shoudn;t be able to wander around in proto tanks drop ships with no plans etc and expect to wipe everyone out just because of those resources.
Basically clever planning, coordination should have a chance of attack. An example would be team of scouts/assaults demoing a camping static proto tank for example. Combination of emp and missile strikes on hard targets is another.
At its heart the game must have a very strong gun game everything else relies on this. People who like sniping should be able to do so effectively, people who like a mixture of combat should be able to play that way. And people who love cqc should be able to do that to. And with the suits and guns in place I see no reason why this is not the case.
One thing I would like to see in the distant future however is environmental effects for example shields are not effective on a planet due to atmospheric and geographic interference. Or a planet that has lower or higher gravity values. Whilst this may not be common it would be interesting that sometimes you would have to take into account conditions as well as what type of equipment the enemy may use.

I too would like a happy medium between BF and MAG but the problem with slower game play is the regin health. Regin health is fine in fast pace games where you can get to your target faster before regin. In slow gun play games low health is a better way to go, giving the game a more realistic feel.
So I think the game needs to be speed up a bit but not by much.

I want to fight in hostile environments, hi grav, low grav, no grav. Hi/low/no atmospheres.
I want to take down installations and hold up PoSes. I want to commandeer frigates and cruisers, invade battleships and capitals.
I want to remind the people of the sky that without the people of the ground, they die.
I want to know that when I take a planet, an alliance loses an outpost. And that if i fail, it is because the enemy didn't.
I want outposts in eve to become the portal to dust, and as such open to everyone.
I want to burn the Empyrean Age from 1.0 down, (not the 0.0 up that is banded about constantly)
I need a place where my fellow mercs can discuss tactics about the upcoming battle and debrief after.
I want to belong to a regiment, not a corp. Corps are about choices, regiments are about war. Wars have choices, just not good ones.
I want a dust, unburdoned by marketeering, mining and manufacturing.
Most importantly, I WANT CAKE.

I want a game that is a new guy with more skill than an old guy will win over the old player.
Equipment should enhance your abilities, not make you inherently better.
I want EVE players to actually have to pay attention to us. Do not seperate us enough so we are merely an afterthought. If I had my way actually, I would say make DUST a really big deal in EVE, enough to change the landscape of 0.0 sov. Make ignoring us detrimental to EVE players cause, and even foolhardy.
I would like more interactive in game items. Make players able to hack the skyfire battery and fire it against the owners will. Make objectives available that can support emergent gameplay; such as hackable blast doors that mercs can lock themselves behind and hold out for reinforcements. Give us nuclear reactors to detonate. Give us warehouses full of OTHER players stuff we can steal and destroy.
Make us think about things such as insertion, extraction, transport, fire support, etc.
As much as I hate to say it, MAG had decent gunplay to look to as inspiration. Not overly damaging, but not a 1000-bullets-to-kill shooter either. Again, trying to keep MAG out of the discussion for sanities sake. |
