People are so adamant about making this a wack a mole cover based shooter because they think it's "tactical" or will be more "thoughtful". Which seems to be the way Dust 514 is headed anyway. Uninspiring gameplay IMO if the gameplay does take that route I implore CCP to get rid of shields. Gun fights will be exactly like this poke out head take a round or two, shoot a round or two duck back down regen shield... rinse and repeat WACK a MOLE game play.
This style of gameplay is meant for people who are really not good at aiming or hitting moving targets so they want to slow the game down to the point where everyone is sitting behind cover all game. This style of gameplay also caters to camping . Most people think that this style of gameplay will make suppression and flanking more relevant when in reality flanking and suppressive fire already takes place in even the twitch shooter. It's very hard to advance in any game if the enemy has you pinned down regardless of how fast you move and you will most likely end up on the kill feed due to being flanked.
Fast movement does not make a game less "tactical" or "thoughtful" than a slow game but it certainly makes it more fun. If you have a problem hitting a moving target you got out gunned get better. Whats that saying umm... ADAPT OR DIE! Don't slow the game down because you can't hit a moving target to save your virtual life. |

I agree with many of your points, and also would not want this to become a cover-based tactical shooter... But I must disagree with the suggestion that faster is always more fun.
If the game gets so fast paced that twitch always beats tactics, then stuff like flanking becomes pointless: Why bother if you're still going to get slaughtered by the guy you shot in the back no matter what?
Yes, I am well aware of the mantra: "Get good or get out".... The thing is that people who suck will get out... And if the people who can't aim well just happen to form the majority of your target market, then pushing them away from this game can be just as deadly as driving away the twitch gamers by not meeting their expectations. |

I'll probably play Logistics and still average over a 2.0 but that's besides the point having a high KD also comes with making the enemy fight you on your terms. Also I'll probably be a dedicated pilot, infantry second it all depends on whats needed of me from battle to battle. |

I've played plenty of fast paced shooters where you can still keep the enemy ducking and flank them. Hell it happened a lot last build and the play was much faster. I'm not saying it needs to be Halo speeds or beyond that but it certainly needs to be faster than it is now!
Also if you get turned on after shooting someone in the back isn't it your fault that you didn't finish them? These things actually happen now anyway especially if your gear is more advanced than your opponent! |

Not to mention the really fast suits, scous, only have enough shields to take 2 or 3 shots. I think dust will hit a baance. If you play a heavy your not fast and if you equip a forge gun it can be a lot of fun to see a scout pop out and BAM, one shot him xD
plus that's a massive damage weapon we don't even know what lasers are going to do.
plus with your skills up you can play with a long long burst shotgun, yummy
Then you have the massive amount of tank combat that will come out of this. I' sure there will be whole maps where it'll encourage large tank squads. |

If the enemy is camping behind cover (which is perfectly okay, especially for defenders), then you need to change tactics. That's exactly what I'm talking about. Bring in a tank and have it soften up the defense while you advance behind it (tanks are cover too). Use a dropship to insert a squad behind them then rush from front and rear. Call in an orbital strike.
If you can't solve a problem by shooting them, try something different.
See how that kind of gameplay requires tactics?
Also it has nothing to do with me being unable to hit moving targets. I admit I'm not nearly as good with a thumbstick as I am with a mouse, but I can get by. However, I mostly play support roles anyway and if I get a kill, it's a nice bonus. I plan to specialize in logistics and/or dropship piloting. I may go a whole game and never get a single kill and I'm completely okay with that.
Another clarification: I'm not advocating making the gameplay slower. I think it's about right where it is now. Scouts should be fast, and sprinting should be pretty fast. I just don't want strafing to be a viable tactic. I'm against increasing the overall speed of the game, though. I don't think "fast" automatically equals "fun". |

Perhaps I'm missing something here....
I can't really remember much of the whack a mole type of gameplay that is suggested here. Almost every engagement I'm in results in a kill, or death....
I really don't see the point in speeding up the game since it can't even keep its framerate up for the exsisting scout suits. |

I dont want this to turn into the ******* same old twitch shooters we have now, thats why i currently have no FPS games to play because they are all **** and copying each other with no real advancement in any areas
Get rid of shields? you serious thats making it easier espc for the damn twitchers, shields as working fine atm and they are easy enough to lose as it is
I see more camping in the twitch shooters because 1 bullet pretty much kills you and running across large areas is suicide
In DUST you have more freedom to move about because of shields and knowing that 1 bullet wont end you, i see more ppl running about and not really camping unless in a dropship or sniping |

Game is definitely not whack a mole as it stands right now. Ideally your fighting somewhat near an objective which means your team or their team is spawning nearby and since you are engaged their red dot is displayed on everyone's minimap. And you know what happens to red dots.
Even in 1v1 situations fights rarely last more than 5-10 seconds. |

Your point is invalid because dropship insertions and advancing behind a tank can be done with faster movement speeds. Strafing wont help you if the other team is laying down heavy fire! All of these things can be done whether you realize it or not. They were done last build were they not?
People used tanks for cover they used dropships to get behind the enemy last build. So I just don't understand where you are getting that slower movement speeds or strafe speeds makes a game more "tactical"! |

If i understand perfectly what you're blaming here, i'd say it's pretty much like that for every FPS now...
MAG had regen gun. Take a pick, go back, "psssssssccchhiiit" and there you go. Even worse, raising fallen comrade : run, go "pssssssssssccccchhhhhiiiiiit" and there you go running like a very vivid rabbit.
COD and other non-sense : take bullets, screen gets greyish, hide, screen back to normal. And there you go.
Let's face it. Hardcore FPS like CS are pretty much dead. And they never offered any chance to random players to get a good role in the game. They were just being called noob, were getting owned and then screamed "cheeeaaater" in text chat.
=> So i more or less agree but as i know you were a huge fan of MAG, i just wanted to point out the fact that it's kinda like the same. Except here you dont need to change weapon and then "pssssscccchhhiiiiit" yourself. Ok, you could one shot a guy in MAG ( at least the first year as after that hit detection just broke....).
I would agree that boosting the movement speed even slightly could help on this as it would allow a much quicker assault on damaged targets before they have a chance to fully regen. Maybe a slight boost to all handheld weapons as well. |

Obviously OP has never played what he calls "slow" shooter if he thinks it doesn't take skill to be good in those games... In most tactical shooters you die as soon as you're spotted (assuming your opponent is any good) so you can't just rush strafe or hop any where in the open without dying fast.
I used to play AA 1.7-2.8 when it was "fresh" and that game would bore you kids to death as it had 10min rounds while the dead teams shared a chat and talked like it was #irc channel and not a shooter game. It had a spectator cam of c. you you could see who was stalling the game and vote him out, though some servers had vote for death instead of boot from server.
That game had and still has a very solid game play but as usual people got bored on the same old maps and eventually they rolled out a completely new version which had a very different feel (new DEV team, new engine, new everything) and the old community finally crumbled; though the game was already at the end of it's life cycle with most having moved on. |

I am under no false assumption that how well I do in any game has any bearing on who I am as a person.
The advantage of this is I can go into a game using a hardware setup that is intended purely to cause the grief and rage of other people who do feel their performance in a game matters.
E-Honoure, Net-Bushido, and any other way you choose to phrase it is just another way of saying you like to fight with a handicap in situations where there isn't a need to.
As a side note, when you get as old and slow as me you realize that eventually you will need to use any advantage you can to offset the reflexes of the younger generation. |

I might actually want to have a discussion with you if you did more than identify a problem without explaining how and why and what you would do to fix it.
So you don't like tactical cover based shooters...ok.
Last I checked, there was no cover mechanic in this game... but you can "hide" behind things. Last I checked, ALL FPS games let you run behind something.
Please explain how this game is not good and how specific mechanics contribute to this problem and why it is a problem, then explain how you would change it.
Otherwise you are just another whiner. |
