More power grid lets you fit more and better stuff in your suit or vehicle.
I feel I should impart some advice that carries over from EVE:
Focus first on skills that improve your performance in any suit or help you fit better things on your suits first. These are called your "core skills".
This includes things like mechanics (increases base armor) engineering (increases base shield), the skills that increase your CPU output and power grid, the skills that increase your stamina, the skills that increase your base weapon performance, etc.
Unlike, say, the assault rifle skill, those core skills will increase your performance for the rest of your DUST career no matter what dropsuit or vehicle you're using. Having permanent increases to your armor, shield, power grid, CPU capacity, etc is always helpful.
A lot of EVE newbies ignore their core skills at first in a rush to get into bigger ships and use fancy weapons, but they won't be effective in those new toys without a good foundation in core skills. There's a big difference between being able to wear a suit or drive a vehicle and being effective in that suit or with that vehicle. |

Yes, but something else that carries over from EVE--specialize. Early on you should specialize in a role. Later on as you get more SP, you can branch out, but if you spread your SP out too early, you'll end up being not good at much of anything.
And like I said earlier, core skills will always help you out, even if you switch weapons or suits. |

It's a chokepoint on logistics suits if you try to fit a repair tool, drop uplink and nanohive. I barely got all that to fit. |
