Ever tried to equip something on your favorite fitting only to find out you don't have enough PG?

Its just a resource for your dropsuit. Stuff needs electrical power (powergrid), and processing power (CPU). Each module takes up some of each, some more than others. Its really just a balancing act. |

Powergrid is always the limiting factor on top end fits. So yes, increasing PG is critical. |

More power grid lets you fit more and better stuff in your suit or vehicle.
I feel I should impart some advice that carries over from EVE:
Focus first on skills that improve your performance in any suit or help you fit better things on your suits first. These are called your "core skills".
This includes things like mechanics (increases base armor) engineering (increases base shield), the skills that increase your CPU output and power grid, the skills that increase your stamina, the skills that increase your base weapon performance, etc.
Unlike, say, the assault rifle skill, those core skills will increase your performance for the rest of your DUST career no matter what dropsuit or vehicle you're using. Having permanent increases to your armor, shield, power grid, CPU capacity, etc is always helpful.
A lot of EVE newbies ignore their core skills at first in a rush to get into bigger ships and use fancy weapons, but they won't be effective in those new toys without a good foundation in core skills. There's a big difference between being able to wear a suit or drive a vehicle and being effective in that suit or with that vehicle. |

Unless you're a heavy, at least for me CPU is always the choke point. |

Upgrading your powergrid and CPU is one of the single most important things you can do. It takes effect on every dropsuit you use and allows you to make better fits. It's definately worth getting to Lv5 early on. |

This. If you want the ability to play with the cool techno toys you have to be sure your dropsuit can handle it.
I look at most of these skills as the merc having the tech skill to tinker with his or her suit and get that much oomph out of them by pushing the performance envelope, same with weapon skills. im better at using them, but ive played with my guns power systems/containment fields so they have a bit more bite to them, or whatever.
as I recall, in EVE there are third-party skill planner applications and such, so one thing someone should write out in Dust is an aid to plan your individual progression with a character, what to buy and save for. |

Upgrading Weaponry, Mechanics and shield skills are more important for a beginner than PG and CPU. A beginner won't even have PG/CPU issues until he want to upgrade modules. |

They are definitely important, but less important than getting your weapon skills up asafp. Seriously - better weapons == more people die more quickly == more sp == quicker skilling of the core stuff.
EDIT: To relate this to Eve; in Eve the amount of kills you amass does nothing for the speed with which you earn sp. In Eve, sp == time and that is all. The only things you can do are plug in implants to improve your stats or remap to gain sp more rapidly. Therefore, in Eve the quality of weapon is irrelevant to the progress of your character outside of pve earning iskies to buy stuff. Skilling the core stuff in Eve first is smart - less so in Dust. |

Yes, but something else that carries over from EVE--specialize. Early on you should specialize in a role. Later on as you get more SP, you can branch out, but if you spread your SP out too early, you'll end up being not good at much of anything.
And like I said earlier, core skills will always help you out, even if you switch weapons or suits. |

It's a chokepoint on logistics suits if you try to fit a repair tool, drop uplink and nanohive. I barely got all that to fit. |
