They don't wipe at every update, only if that update introduces something making the old "skill trees" incompatible, or like last time they wiped (everything), when they merged the EVE and DUST name databases, and had to wipe to avoid duplicate names.
Another reason to wipe is to test new builds, where most ate on the same skill level.
There will be a wipe at the end of the beta though. |

The x4 skill gain allows testing in 6 months two years of skill gap. New people show up every other week, and the vets have 2 more months of skills then the last time new people came in. So, they get a look at how the gap affects the new player experience. If they even skills out in beta, and not in release the new player experience will be untested. Better they find a problem that makes game unplayable for new guys in beta then after release. So, the new player skill point gap issue is a reason to not wipe, not a reason to wipe. If the build needs a wipe do it, if not we can test more with more skills. I also assume ccp knows what they are doing, so if I can't see why they needed to wipe I'll assume there was a good reason I just don't see. |

This will happen eventually, sure, but it being that way off the start would be horrible. This game would have less players in a month or two than current MAG. Actually, no it wont. It will be much like EVE, their will be newbie things to do that will help give you push into the world, and from there you will rely on finding a way to make money, and finding yourself a Corp to join. Starting off in the world might be hard, but from there, the game will just be awesome.
No, it won't. This isn't EVE, you can't mine rocks all day and whatever hell you do in that trash. It's DUST, a FPS. You're going to be an a shooter game being shot. No ifs, ands, or buts. People will stand no chance and be demolished by high levels, that's just how DUST is. People will quit if their first experiences in a game consists of having their ass drilled by higher level players. Why you'd try and refute that I have no idea. |

I disagree. Wipes are needed with every major updates of the build. Just so we can test dynamics of the game at every level. Starting from the bottom just like the game shall at release. And add players through special events to have different level then.

I agree with the one who said that the player gap would be too damn high for new players.
Every major update the playerbase make a jump after which it slowly decreases with people getting uninterested in the current build. If you however let everyone keep their SP they got from previous builds the gap between new and old will be kind of extreme. I have created a new character last weekend for a certain event, that one round in ambush was hell. creodrons mowing me down with little more than two shots, tanks i couldn't scratch with my militia swarm launcher, i can understand if CCP decides to wipe with the next build again. |

But if you are testing do you not need a majority of players experiencing and opening all kinds of skills ? Not just a grinding 5%? Then you can add the newer players who are slowing moving up...just to get wiped again when they finally get a comfortable fit? I know some who will straight dropout if they get wiped. I have also spent 25 million points and not one is in any vehicles. My next plan is to go into vehicles but if I am swiped that will not happen. In short, if I am suppose to just play and test lag...wipe away If I am suppose to aid in balancing and experiencing the skill system please stop the pain.
(I am leveled so high because I am home from work with an injury) (perhaps wipe us but let us start with 10 million)
