I played the first open beta weekend and it was a lot of fun. I was able to actually do stuff to help my team and was able to kill some stuff. I was not lucky enough to get in on the full beta so I had to wait for the next open beta weekend. So here I am ready to go and I just seem to be getting killed a lot more frequently and I am unable to kill people like I used to in the last open weekend.
After checking with my friend that was lucky enough to get in on the full closed beta I have learned that the reason I suck more then normal is do to the fact that most of the people killing me have top of the line gear and equipment. "That is unfair" I said and she told me "It is beta, and there is a lot of stuff that still needs to be put into the game in order to make it work right". After a lengthy discussion with her I have come to the conclusion the Open Week ends are only here so the people that have the best gear can farm the rest. I realize that only a part of the game is in but the open weekends are going to ruin this game for people that want to try it out and see what it is all about. Not everyone is going to realize or have a friend to point out that it is just the gear and the fact we only have the random PVP stuff atm.
So in lue of this I have decided to wait for the next beta week end and hope there is something I can test in it other then how many times can I die before I throw my controller though the TV. Have fun and GL with the beta and maybe I will see ya'll again in a couple weeks. So "So long and thanks for all the fish". |

I've spent a lot of time using only Militia gear and the infinite-use Merc Pack kit which isn't much better.
Low-grade gear ISN'T as underpowered as some people make it out to be. There's a distinct advantage to running with high-tier equipment, weapons, etc. but it's possible to be useful and effective with dirt-cheap gear. |

I have noticed that I am doing substantially better now that I have some descent gear, but I feel like it is more down to my getting better at the game than purely because of the items I'm using.
I'd say at least half the time, if not much more, I get killed by militia gear.
When I'm around using my top-level Sniper and get killed by a militia sniper I cant help but get somewhat irate... |

I've found I'm almost as productive in lower tier gear than the higher end stuff. My "best" fitting right now is a mid-level suit, higher shields and low level gun. This gives me the advantage of saving up some isk for vehicles. |

the game itself is a bit broken at the moment, but since the first major patch is supposed to be in August...
Keep playing till the build ends. We might be surprised to find that all our stuff isn't going to be reset. CCP has stated they will be doing character resets, but only against people like myself who have almost unlocked everything and have almost 100 million in the bank. |

You mean second or third major patch.
In the last patch (build), the lag was so bad you'd be lucky to shoot at anything. The game froze so often it was estimated by everyone to freeze on you by the forth or fifth match. The hit detection for assault rifles were also horrible. I don't know how the OP could've enjoyed the game in the last build.
But yeah, we should keep playing to find more bug, imbalances, etc. The more we play and report, the better the game gets before it is finally released to the public. |

Damn right, we will already get some sick stuff for buying the Merc pack when the game comes out, but we will get more benefits for playing the beta and being active members of the forums. That's all the incentive I need to get ahead of the game before it becomes *Swamped* with the sheer force of CoD players... |

Keep in mind that skills (as in the purchased skills, NOT player skill) affect every tier of weapon, so a guy with all the Sniper-related skills leveled to max will be doing more with a Militia Sniper Rifle than a relative noob with the best AUR Sniper they can equip. |

I genralely go low tier till we've acquired a substantial amount of the map then switch up to push on for the rest. This allows for a steady build of isk in my case. |

I recently found out that my pile of 11 000 000 ISK goes down pretty fast when using some kickass vehicle fits, like a well fitted Myron or Madrugar. Now Im down to only 8 mil. |

I did the same thing. I ran my Toxic Dragonfly fit till I save saved up to 12M ISK, then started playing with prototype weapons / dropsuits and recently started moving into vehicles... This has dropped me down to about 7M ISK. Once I drop to 5M, I will be switching back to my Toxic Dragonfly fit. This fit is as close to a newbie fit as possible
To the OP, I think either your friend lied to you (unintentionally) or you misunderstood. You were not dying because everyone was running around in prototype gear, you were dying because your basic player and character skills were too low.... Your player skills will go up faster than your character skills if you get in and fight, but your character skills will go up faster if you get in there and act as a support character for a while. Both methods are equally valid, but simply require different desires and mindsets.
I have almost 15M SP and still get taken out in every match by someone with a militia weapon... Remember I am running around in prototype gear and carrying the top of the line weaponry. I use the top of the line Swarm Launcher, and I still get killed in almost every match by the very basic Soma or Sica or Viper or Gorgon, etc.
Now, having said that, here is what I would suggest next, talk to your friend who is in the full beta and ask them to forward you the CCP Dropsuit Fit of the week. Look at what CCP is doing with the fits and read the various stats on the weekends when you can get in. It won't take long for you to see how to make better fits. Additionally, when you go into games to test them out, don't hide in the corner, get aggressive and go hunting the lone wolf characters... Doing all of these will have you on a semi-level playing field within a couple of weekends (beta time).
EDIT: I speak from experience here as I got my beta invite four weeks before the current build came out. "Everyone was running around in prototype gear", but then I quit feeling sorry for myself and remembered what I had learned in EVE (I posted it above) and was wearing prototype gear with prototype weapons before the wipe. |

Don't listen to your friend, OP. The reason why you are doing so bad is most likely due to you not being any good - that coupled with the fact that you are very, very poor.

I love posts like this. "You just suck" come on guys. Yes I do agree that the OP is probably just lacking in skills but the whole "Git Gud" thing just screams to me the whole elitism that is in these games. I mean I am not the best player in the world and all of you people that have just pwned me time after time know this. But right now the people that have all the Proto gear are getting outrageous amounts of SP and everyone else gets hardly anything. My friend that is really good averages 30-50k SP per match where I average 4-10k. I know the whole "get good" (oh i am sorry for you people that think you are cool...) "Git Gud" thing is popular but if being good in a game is your whole life and you do not make real money at that game, then I feel sorry for you.
Anyway, yes the really good people in this game have the Proto gear not because they have it but because they are good at the game. But there are a lot of people that can't make the SP either do to lack of skills and telling them to Git Gud does not help. I think he should not quit just because of bad luck. I know some people in Proto gear that just suck at this game and he could take them out no problem. Just avoid people in heavies and stay in groups and he should do just fine. |

Well personally I think CCP should reduce SP from kills and give more from assists and objects to promote team work over gear and personal skill or reward slightly more points from kills with certain types of weapons such as sniper rifles and less from heavy (splash) weapons and vehicle launchers. |
