Lord Sedto wrote:Personally when I think of a MMO i think how can you not have a crafting ability? Ummmm, crafting has nothing to do with it being a MMO, instead this is a common fallacy that I see on this forum. Dust in an MMO, CoD is a MMO, Planshift is a MMO. Ultima Online is a MMO, BF3 is a MMO. MMO simply means 'Massively Multiplayer Online'. Dust, is a RPG with an FPS combat system... Please use the correct terms as they do have specific meanings.

No, I have been increasingly frustrated when people use MMO to refer to RPG because it causes a lot of unnecessary confusion. To make matters worse you see various people on this forum specifically who keep trying to argue that this is a FPS not a MMO... As if the two are mutually exclusive

Pwebert JR wrote:Someone slap me if i'm way off here but....I thought that eve players would manufacture everything that dust players use and there will be one new eden market. This has been brought up a couple of times, but to my knowledge CCP has never said one way or the other. Some of the stuff does make sense like Dropships, HAVs, LAVs, and installations, but things like Dropsuits and hand held weapons don't really make sense because of scale.
Keep in mind that the fastest construction we can do in PI is a minimum of 2 hours and those are the very basic materials needed, from there we are looking at least at another hour to combine these materials into a product, and even then, we are only getting a few at a time.
With POS / Station / Outpose we can build faster, but then we run into the materials per unit. A single Frigate which is 10x the size / complexity of a tank is only a few thousand minerals

Chao Wolf wrote:Like or hate me I don't really care but personally I hope ccp allows mercs to craft stuff Because if they don't then dust will be completely at the mercy of eve No, I think you will find that many EVE pod pilots will agree with you on this... I also think a lot of the less hard core FPS dust bunnies will agree as well. For me personally, I want to see the two games become co-equal.

Lord Sedto wrote:Also asking everyone to make emblems in adobe photoshop or something might not be ideal. Actually EVE already has a mechanism for creating "crests" and corporate logos in game. Adding them to gear would actually be trivial from the server side mechanics, but highly disruptive to the client side. Your client would have to load the logo for each item carried by each player in the battle before the battle could begin. If you wait until the battle is already joined, you will lag each time you come up against a new corp's logo. Now, these logos are small, but they can and will add up, very very quickly to overwhelm certain the PS3 or network connections.
