go AV, be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
as for swarm launcher V forge gun... it's debateable, but i would say swarm launcher. especially if you are already an avid AR guy. light weapon skills will effect the swarm. not the forge.
the swarm launcher:
- deals more damage and locks on faster than the forge gun can charge (and it's a lock on...) and thanks to that lock you can play the launch to shoot around corners or over cover. not to mention it only requires a light weapon slot as opposed to a heavy, so you can take whatever your normal AR loadouts are, swap the AR for a swarm, and be good to go. (hopefully you have an smg on there. if not thats something you'll want to train for as well.
a few downsides to the swarm:
- it has a very small ammo pool. 6 shots by default. you can get around this pretty easily however since the swarm can be used by logi, scout, and assault suits. all of wich get at least 1 gear slot, so you can carry nanohives. but it's still worth mentioning.
- it doesn't shoot straight. normally this is a non-issue because once the lock kicks in it doesn't matter where the missile is, it will chase your target like a rabid junkyard dog. but in thick structure you can easily lose a missile or 3. eventually you'll acclimate to it and figure out where to aim to give the entire swarm a clear path (once you have a lock you can hold that lock forever, you could turn 180 fire, the misiles will scatter forward, then turn around and go after your target)
the forge gun:
- deals less damage and requires a 3.5 second chargeup before it can be fired. (2.5 for the "assault" variant. but they can't hold a charge) there is also no UI indication to let you know the gun is charged. an experienced user will eventually get this down, but it makes it needlessly difficult to use and i really really hope ccp puts that back in.
- cuts movement speed in half while charging, or holding that charge. (again, really think ccp should change this)
- REQUIRES a heavy suit to carry. this will mean a lot of extra training, especially if you are already heavily invested in skills like "light weapon reload" and so on. "heavy weapon reload" and all other general heavy weapon skills cost 50% more than the light weapon equivelant.
benefits to the forge gun:
- larger ammo pool. more ammo is more better. but the lack of a gear slot on heavy suits also means no nano-hives. so it's sort of a toss up
- shoots straight. sometimes you can hit stuff with a forge gun that would be hard or impossible to hit with a swarm launcher, or at least the entire swarm. |
