I saw someone post about this before in a more joking manner but i think it would be sick to have large mech suits. They would be like tanks and useful if they make maps that need more maneuverability than normal tanks can offer like in a forest or something. |

Would't surprise me if they added some sort of Exo-suit, might be fun to have.

They will be added in the game with one of the many free expansions; they're called MTACs, and they have been confirmed.
The funny thing is, if CCP didn't announce it, people asking for it on the forums would probably be flooded with "NO!" messages. |

The problem is many of us large scale fps fans remember the dark days of planetside, the BFR, and how much they ruined the game. |

Done well, mechs are awesome.
Done badly, mechs are either completely useless or game-breakingly OP.
I'm expecting MTACs will be the latter.
They're supposed to be on a similar sort of scale to tanks, and CCP have said they WON'T be in the game on release - they're going to come in an expansion (which will, of course, be free) |

I would like to point to BF 2142 here. Something that I think people should do often, as it was probably one of the best sci-fi shooters ever made. Walkers were balanced perfectly here. |

As a Planetside 1 player I am puzzled that this keeps coming up when people mention mechs. What on Earth does Planetside 1 have to do with Dust? How is the implementation of a vehicle in that game relevant to the implementation of a vehicle in Dust? Yeah, BFRs were pretty bad and continue to be bad. That's fine, but it isn't like the problem with them was the fact that they were bipedal vehicles, was it? The problem was the actual mechanics of the vehicle. And unless Smokejumper is the lead designer from Dust, why would you worry that somehow Planetside 1's game mechanics will infiltrate Dust 514? |

I'm looking forward to someone implementing mechs in an FPS in a balanced manner, just so it can be shown that the Planetside way isn't the only way. I mean, MechWarrior Living Legends does a damn good job balancing mechs against other assets, including individual soldiers, so it certainly isn't impossible. |

It would be interesting to see how its pulled off the MTEC in my opinion should be a sort of anti light vehicle and anti infantry/ possibly use specialised modules to be better against one over the other such as blasters could be seen as high anti infantry where as rails could be a more anti material module for it, other possible role AA or in extreme AT but i would suggest they should be quite weak against tanks not using as heavy weapons and not as heavily armored.
i think smaller exo systems would be welcome also sort of a extra heavy that is a specialized unit as either anti infantry or anti vehicle these would have the potential to be over powered so they would need some proper weaknesses mabye mobility down to a walking pace, cant crouch(making cover near impossible) or jump perhaps, no ability at all to drive vehicles or complete objectives leaving them with fire support roles exclusivly. |

I've been playing Red Faction: Guerrilla during this past week, and I think it might be a good idea to take something of a cue from that.
There are several types of "Walker" in the game, each with unique capabilities.
Heavy Walkers are huge, incredibly well armoured, and can slaughter everything. If there's a Heavy MTAC that's armoured and shielded like HAVs, that would be a good equivalent.
LIght Walkers would be like a Scout MTAC, and their armour is a lot more fragile, but they move MUCH faster, and have rocket boosters that allow them to jump/fly a decent distance (it has a cooldown, so it's not full flight).
The bit where I think it gets really interesting is the Combat Walker though. In DUST, they've presented the idea that MTACs are repurposed mining equipment, rather than devices intended for military use. The same is true for Walkers in Red Faction. Except that Red Faction also has Combat Walkers, which have been modified to mount rapid-fire rocket launchers.
When they first release MTACs to players in DUST, we'll be given the basic converted mining gear which is only capable of close combat. Later on they'll be able to add combat-ready models with modular weapon fittings as well. |

The way I see them working is medium size of vehicles that can only equip small turrets like the missile launcher. Running strait they can go maybe as fast as the assault class or a little faster at full sprint but without the stamina limitations. When turning or strafing it slows down significantly but is incredibly more maneuverability than a tank. Their defense is a bit more than an LAV so on open ground they could be easily taken out by a forge gun or swarm launcher possibly multiple hi level ARs so its intended purpose is for as i said foresty areas or in cities or in boulder filled areas where there is cover and where you won't be able to fit or maneuver large bulky tanks. |
